Faridabad mishap: House owner, worker die in septic tank; cops book deceased for negligence

FARIDABAD: Over a month after the owner of a house in Sikri village and a daily wager he hired to clean a septic tank choked to death inside it, allegedly after inhaling toxic gases, police on Wednesday booked the deceased owner of the house.

Anand
—a daily wager from the same village—when the latter collapsed inside the tank. On May 14, Anand brought along Ravi to clean the tank at Mukesh's house. As the two descended inside it without any safety equipment, Anand inhaled toxic gases and fell unconscious, while Ravi managed to exit with Mukesh's help. The house owner then jumped inside to save Anand but succumbed to the fumes himself.
Now, Sector 58 police have booked deceased Mukesh for causing death due to negligence following the complaint of Anand's wife,
Anita
of Palwal, who accused Mukesh of not providing safety gear to her husband before making them clean the septic tank. The accused was booked under section 106 of BNS and under relevant section 9 of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
Anand is survived by a wife, two daughters, and a son.

He resided with his sister in Sikri village. Immediately after the incident on the fateful day, Mukesh's family raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush in and pull out the victims using a rope. Anand and Mukesh were rushed to the nearby Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. A team from Sector 58 police station arrived to inspect the tank after being informed about the deaths around 3 pm.
Vinod, the SHO of Sector 58 police station, said that a leakage in the septic tank caused asphyxia. 'Mukesh gave the cleaning contract to Anand, who brought Ravi with him. Initially, they intended to clean only a small drain entry. But later, they decided to clean the entire septic tank without using any masks. They should have used a proper mask and other equipment before entering the tank. It is always risky to enter such underground tanks that are full of toxic gases,' he added.

An engineer died in a road mishap in Baner area in the early hours of Thursday. Police have identified the deceased as Tejal Prakash Tayade (27), native of Talasari in Thane district. Police said Tejal was a computer engineer and came to Pune in search of a job. She went to a hotel in Baner area with her friend Prachi Jagannath Pachange (28) for dinner on Wednesday to celebrate her birthday, returning from which the duo met with an accident. They were returning on a two-wheeler via Jupiter Hospital road in Baner, when a speeding dumper knocked them down, around 12.30 am on Thursday. Both Tejal and Prachi were left injured in the incident. After receiving information, a police team reached the spot. Both victims were rushed to a hospital. Tejal was pronounced dead at the hospital. Prachi is undergoing treatment, police said. Based on a complaint filed by Prachi, a first information report (FIR) was lodged against the dumper driver, at the Baner police station. The driver had fled from the spot after the road mishap, police said. Assistant police inspector Anil Kekan, the investigation officer said that during investigation they have arrested the dumper driver Rahul Bhimrao Rathod (34) of Ravet, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 106(1), 125(a), 281, on charges of negligent driving. According to the police, the matter is currently under investigation.

Police intensify search ops ahead of rath yatra, seize 15 firearms
Ahmedabad: Ahead of rath yatra on June 27, police and security agencies intensified search operations across the city to prevent untoward incidents. In the past month, police teams have seized more than 15 firearms and live cartridges from various locations. Multiple units, including the crime branch and city police, were involved in the operation. A campaign was launched to track down those moving around with weapons. The crime branch and SOG alone seized 10 firearms in the last month. In the past three days, the crime branch recovered three firearms. Man arrested for raping yoga teacher
1 2 Kendrapada: Police arrested a 21-year-old man on Friday on the charges of raping and assaulting a 50-year-old yoga teacher of a public health centre in Kendrapada district. The accused entered the rented house of the woman by breaking open a door on the terrace on Wednesday night and raped her, police said. The crime came to light after the survivor filed an FIR on Thursday. She alleged she was raped by the accused at knife point. The accused also threatened to kill the woman if she told anyone about the incident. The accused also assaulted her. Acting on the FIR, police arrested the accused on Friday under sections 64(2)(M) (rape), 331(4) (house trespass) and 118(1) (grievous hurt by dangerous weapon) of BNS. Both the woman and the accused underwent medical examination, police said.
