Dave Portnoy says legacy media faces major distrust as CNN grapples with low morale

Print Close By Preston Mizell Published June 19, 2025 Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy said that there is "obviously big time distrust of legacy media" during an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital. Portnoy's comments come in response to a Fox Digital report that CNN staffers are worried about the future of the former most-watched cable network. "It is obviously big time distrust of legacy media," Portnoy explained. "And there's so many different ways to consume media. Whether that's online podcasts, some of it good, some of it bad, to be honest, you just have to be really careful where you're getting your information from. There's so many different people speaking now and people can access it in so many ways." CNN MORALE 'REALLY GRIM' AS NETWORK FACES UNCERTAIN FUTURE WITH CORPORATE SPLIT, STAFFERS WARN CNN dominated the airwaves in the '90s, leading coverage on Baghdad and the O.J. Simpson trial. Since then, prime-time viewership has plummeted from the Ted Turner-founded network to third in ratings. On Monday, Variety reported that one of the network's most notable stars, Anderson Cooper, hired high-powered Hollywood agent Bryan Lourd of Creative Artists Agency, which may indicate Cooper is either looking to bolster his contract with CNN or potentially leave the network altogether. Cooper has been at CNN for more than 23 years. One Cable News Network staffer also told Fox "the mood remains really grim" and that "people are uncertain" about what may come after an expected corporate restructuring by their parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery. CNN HAS 'TEARS ON THE HORIZON' AS WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY PLOTS NETWORK SPINOFF, INDUSTRY INSIDERS SAY Portnoy explained his thinking behind the shift in media, saying the internet has played a large role in where people get their information. "The internet has given a way for people to fact-check and come to their own conclusions," Portnoy added. "You just don't have a couple of network TV anchors or chairs telling you what to think." The Barstool Sports empire is a leading example of the change in how people interact with the media. The mostly podcast and social media-driven strategy has propelled the sports outlet into a giant, with Dave manning the helm. ANTISEMITIC SLUR FLUNG AT BARSTOOL SPORTS FOUNDER DAVE PORTNOY OUTSIDE TORONTO RESTAURANT Portnoy's infamous "one bite" pizza reviews are one of the many bits that put Barstool on the map, which feature Dave testing slices of pizza and rating them accordingly. Many of his reviews have gone viral and his scores can make or break pizzerias in New York City and across the country. Following the success of the pizza reviews, Dave launched the "One Bite Pizza Festival" in 2023 in Brooklyn, and now plans to host the event for a third year in Randall's Island Park this September for thousands to try his top-rated pizza choices. The event has sold out each time the festival has been held. "Like if you like pizza, obviously if you don't like pizza, forget about it, but everybody loves pizza," Dave told Fox. "We have the best pizzerias, 40 plus. We're always adding new ones. Like I just did this spectacular place series that went super-viral in New York City." HK Builder New World Nears $11 Billion Loan Refinancing Deal

New World Development Co., one of Hong Kong's most indebted builders, is close to securing a crucial HK$87.5 billion ($11.1 billion) loan refinancing deal, according to people familiar with the matter, the culmination of months of negotiations as it raced to secure a lifeline amid a deepening liquidity crisis. New World has received preliminary consent from all the lenders for the refinancing deal, even from those that had previously resisted, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing private matters. A few of the banks are still working on formal written commitments, the people added.

I got fed up with regular Bluetooth speakers, so I'm using one shaped like a sci-fi Martian robot instead — here's why you should too

If you were to stack all the best Bluetooth speakers together in one big pile, you'd very quickly realise that they all look very similar. Some are tubes of different colors, some are boxes with handles, and some are supposed to look like amplifiers from classic rock brands. If you're anything like me, that can mean things feel a little boring. Well, along came Gravastar and this ridiculous thing. It's the Mars Pro, a mono Bluetooth speaker which is designed to look like a robot war machine thing from, I presume, Mars, and I love every single thing about it. I think you might too., Despite its bizarre styling, the Gravastar Mars Pro is actually a really good Bluetooth speaker. Its mono sound is powerful, and if you get two, you can connect them together for extra stereo sound. It's not the cheapest, but those looks have to count for something, right? I'd hesitate to call it a work of art, but the Gravastar Mars Pro brings the fun unlike just about any other Bluetooth speaker. It's a weird ball thing on mechanical legs, covered with bits and greeblies likes something from a budget sci-fi film in the 90s. Is it up everyone's street? Almost certainly not. I can't imagine there are millions of people clamoring for a Martian walker from War of the Worlds that plays Britney at top volume, but there are some. And I am one. Those legs are articulated to some degree, so you can kind of pose the speaker. For the most part, it's going to be fairly static, though. It's a statement piece, something that draws the eye of visitors and makes them ask, "What on earth is that thing in the corner of your room, and why does its eye thing follow me around the room — please turn it around." Everything is topped off by those RGB lights. I'd say this is the first time I've seen a Bluetooth speaker where I've appreciated the lights. Generally, they feel a bit like a gimmick — they're never going to actually power a party. Here they're an accent to increase the Sci-Fi looks, and I'm a massive fan. My mom was not — one look at the speaker and she asked me to put it back in the box. And, like every person who is still 13 years old at heart, I simply moved it closer. It's also built like a tank. There's metal in them there legs, and the whole thing feels reassuringly hefty. It goes some way to justifying that slightly loftier price. "Oooh, stereo this, stereo that..." I'm guilty of it — if it's not at least two channels, I don't want to know. Except I found that when listening to the Gravastar Mars Pro, I didn't really care. It sounds excellent, not just for a weird Bluetooth speaker with a single audio channel, but for a Bluetooth speaker in general. That "plays audio out of the front, glowing eye" thing does mean that the audio is fairly directional. You have to be sitting in front of the speaker for it to sound its best, but given you're unlikely to make it face the wall (unless your guest demands it), you're generally going to be in the cone of sonic influence. And when you are, you're in for a bit of a treat. I'd never call it 'HiFi' — it's not, and it's not intended to be. But it is big, loud, and very much in charge. There's some decent detail to proceedings, good mid-range representation, and then some fairly powerful bass that we're fed through the passive bass radiator on the back. Fit for an Autopsy's The Sea of Tragic Beasts brings the slam, and the little bass radiator on the back of the Mars Pro gets moving. That characteristic sub-tone from the band is very well represented, shaking the table the speaker sits on. The drums are impactful and full, while the crunchy guitar distortion shows plenty of edge to keep things heavy. The cymbals can get a little lost amongst the rest of the din, but for a small speaker, things are very tasty indeed. Loads of fun. Given it's style, there's no way you can't try out The Eve of the War from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War of the Worlds. Those string swells are deep and wide, giving plenty of presense. The synth line is well seperated from the rest of the ensemble, while the shaker cuts through. Richard Burton's dulcet tones rumble, as the Martians launch their way to Earth. I presume they look something like this speaker. What lots of speaker manufacturers forget is that audio is supposed to be fun. Making everything into austere grey boxes or colored tubes that look like every other waterproof speaker around isn't fun. Making your speaker look like a three-legged death machine that's going to melt down your mom to feed the alien war machine is fun. And that's something that Gravastar seem to have gotten so right with the Mars Pro. It sounds good yes, and it's very well made, but it's the sense of fun that the speaker exudes that sets it apart from just about everything else. I spent a good hour posing various different action figures with the speaker before I'd even started listening to music — and I think that speaks volumes.

Putin wants to broker Israel-Iran deal while ramping up war in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to help mediate an end to the conflict between Israel and Iran, even as Moscow steps up its war against Ukraine. Speaking to international news agency editors in St Petersburg on Wednesday, Putin suggested that Moscow could help negotiate a settlement allowing Tehran to pursue a peaceful nuclear programme while assuaging Israeli security concerns. Putin said it was a "delicate issue" but believed that "a solution could be found". The Russian leader said he had shared Moscow's proposal with Iran, Israel and the US. "We are not imposing anything on anyone; we are simply talking about how we see a possible way out of the situation. But the decision, of course, is up to the political leadership of all these countries, primarily Iran and Israel," he said. Israel hit a critical Iranian nuclear site and Iranian missiles struck an Israeli hospital on Thursday, the seventh day of a conflict that started with a surprise wave of Israeli airstrikes targeting military sites, senior officers and nuclear scientists in Iran. The Israeli air campaign against its rival has killed several Iranian military commanders and hundreds of civilians, while Iran's strikes in response have killed at least two dozen civilians in Israel. Asked how Russia would react if Israel were to kill Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Putin refused to answer, saying he did not "want to discuss such a possibility". Khamenei has rejected US calls for surrender in the face of Israeli strikes and warned that any military involvement by Washington would cause "irreparable damage". US President Donald Trump said earlier this week that the US knew where Khamenei was "hiding" but that "we are not going to take him out ... at least not for now". Russia has maintained a balancing act in the Middle East for decades, staying on good terms with Israel even as it developed strong economic and military ties with Iran, a policy that could allow Moscow to play power broker in the region. Yet the Kremlin signed a strategic partnership agreement with Tehran in January, while its relationship with Israel has been tested by the wars in Gaza and Ukraine. After the Israel-Iran conflict broke out last Friday, Russia has urged Israel to show restraint in its campaign against Iran and condemned its attacks against its rival as "violations of the UN charter and international law" — the same contraventions the international community has repeatedly said Moscow has been committing in Ukraine. Asked on Wednesday at the St Petersburg meeting about Russia denouncing Israel's strikes on Iran while Ukrainian civilians are being killed in attacks by Moscow, Putin responded that Russia was targeting the country's arms factories. However, widespread damage to residential buildings and other civilian targets in Ukraine has been documented during the conflict, including this week. On Wednesday, Ukrainian emergency workers pulled more bodies from the rubble of a nine-story Kyiv apartment building demolished by a Russian attack earlier this week, raising the death toll from the strike on the capital to 28. Russia's intensified attacks against Ukraine in recent weeks have been condemned by several international organisations — including the OSCE and the Council of Europe — as violations of international humanitarian law. Two rounds of direct peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv failed to make progress on ending Russia's war, now in its fourth year. On Thursday morning, Israel attacked Iran's Arak heavy water reactor, one of the country's largest nuclear facilities, located 250 kilometres southwest of the capital Tehran. The facility had been completely evacuated, with no damage to the civilian areas surrounding the reactor, according to Iranian sources. According to the US non-profit Missile Defence Advocacy Alliance, the Arak nuclear reactor, also known as IR-40, is a heavy-water nuclear reactor that began operating in 2003. However, its design origins are unclear, with foreign experts believed to have contributed to its construction, including the Russian design firm Nikit. Reports indicate that Iran sought to present the reactor as "not to be used to produce nuclear material of military purity", but it was capable of producing about 9 kilograms of plutonium, raising US concerns that this could enable Tehran to manufacture a plutonium-based nuclear weapon. After signing the Iran nuclear deal in 2015, the international community conditioned the modification of the Arak reactor on the lifting of sanctions. In 2016, Iran announced that it had filled the reactor core with cement. However, in February of the same year, Tehran exceeded the maximum permissible heavy water stockpile limit for the first time, a limit that was also surpassed again in November 2016. In addition, Tehran transferred more than 80 metric tonnes of heavy water, formerly intended for the Arak reactor, to Oman. Although Iran still has control over this quantity, its cross-border transfer was not considered a breach of the agreement. In one of Israel's extensive military attacks on Iran, the strikes which began last Friday targeted critical nuclear sites, severely damaging its nuclear programme, according to multiple reports, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) data and recent satellite imagery. The strikes targeted three major uranium enrichment sites across the Middle Eastern country. At Natanz's central underground facility, the electrical infrastructure was reportedly completely destroyed, including backup power plants, leading to the possible damage or destruction of thousands of centrifuges, as confirmed by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. At the same site, a smaller near-surface facility, the PFEP pilot plant, was declared completely destroyed. It contained advanced centrifuges that enriched uranium up to 60%. No visible damage was reported to the Fordow bunker facility. However, Fordow produces the most significant amount of uranium enriched to 60%, which is a few simple steps away from reaching the level of making a nuclear bomb. Four further sites were targeted in Isfahan, including a uranium conversion centre and facilities to work on uranium metallurgy technology, which is essential for making the core of a nuclear weapon. The centrifuge production workshops in Karaj and Tehran, also struck in Israeli attacks, were previously monitored by the IAEA, but the number of remaining undeclared workshops is unknown. Furthermore, at least 14 Iranian nuclear scientists have been killed since the attacks began, according to multiple sources in the region. The Israeli military said nine of them were a "key element" in Tehran's pursuit of a nuclear weapon. According to IAEA estimates as of Tuesday, Iran has enough uranium enriched up to 60% to make up to nine nuclear bombs. It also has further uranium enriched to a lesser degree that could be used to produce additional bombs. Tehran has announced that it will take "undeclared" measures to protect nuclear material and equipment and may reduce co-operation with the IAEA, while Iran's parliament is considering a bill to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), following North Korea's example. If the uranium conversion facility in Isfahan goes offline, Iran will have to find external sources of uranium hexafluoride (UF6), the key ingredient in the enrichment process.

Gareth Burns, President of the GAA, speaking with pupils at St. Ninnidh's PS, Derrylin. (Image: John McVitty) While major media outlets across Northern Ireland were eager to secure an interview with GAA President Jarlath Burns about the £50million redevelopment of Casement Park, he chose instead to give a very important interview to an up-and-coming podcast based in Derrylin. The St. Ninnidh's PS P7 class, assisted by their teacher, Cassie Cadden, has set up a podcast known as 'Derrylin Diaries' on Facebook and TikTok, which has amassed thousands of views online. Advertisement Miss Cadden spoke to The Impartial Reporter about how the podcast was created and the exciting opportunity it presented for the students of St. Ninnidh's PS to interview Mr. Burns on Wednesday, June 11. 'I don't think we ever anticipated it [the podcast] getting this big, but it is the power of persuasive writing and letters," Miss Cadden explained. She encourages project-based learning in her P7 classes, providing pupils with essential life skills and engaging opportunities to apply what they've learned, all while following the annual curriculum and balancing preparation for the secondary school transfer test. 'I try to do fun, project-based activities with the children, and I wanted to do something that is relevant to right now," she explained. Advertisement In previous years, Miss Cadden introduced a Junior Entrepreneur Programme, where pupils created a business and developed a product to go along with it. 'We started the Podcast Club [Derrylin Diaries], so children who were interested in podcasting or interviewing could come to it; generally, all my Primary Seven class came." Through deliberation and voting, the pupils decided on 17 guests they wanted to interview on their podcast, and then wrote letters to each of their selected guests. 'The best thing about the podcast is the opportunities they [the pupils] are getting for their literacy, because they are writing, editing, redrafting and chatting among each other about their writing. Advertisement 'The most important thing is they are growing their confidence," Miss Cadden added. 'We taught them persuasive techniques to try and encourage these people to come to our podcast. "We didn't think we would get any replies," she said, but added that she and the pupils were delighted by the positive response they received. Over the past few weeks, the pupils have received letters from many of their chosen recipients. Miss Cadden said: 'We got a reply from the First Minister, who said she would do it." Unfortunately, First Minister Michelle O'Neill was unable to attend the podcast due to several scheduling conflicts; however, she has been booked for September. Advertisement The first guest the pupils interviewed was Malachy O'Rourke, the current Senior football manager for Tyrone GAA, and a former pupil of St. Ninnidh's PS. Their second guest was Jarlath Burns, whose involvement Miss Cadden described as "unbelievable", adding: "It was like a rockstar arriving at school!" The podcast has been very well received. Miss Cadden revealed: "It's been going viral on Facebook and TikTok. "We have thousands of views, and people are tuning in and asking us when our next podcast episode is out. 'We are hoping to make it a regular thing. It's brewing excitement throughout the whole school," she added. Tosh McKinlay excited by return of 'world-class' Kieran Tierney to Celtic

Tosh McKinlay says the sight of 'world-class' Kieran Tierney in green and white hoops again will have Celtic supporters excited for next season. The 28-year-old Scotland defender has returned to Parkhead after six years in the English Premier League with Arsenal. Former Hoops star McKinlay, who played in the same position as Tierney, is looking forward to seeing someone he rates very highly gracing the Celtic Park pitch once again by marauding down the wing and 'playing for the badge'. Speaking on Wednesday at the Taxi To Troon charity event in Glasgow, where he was representing the club and handing over a £7,000 cheque from the Celtic Foundation, he said: 'As far as I am concerned Kieran (Tierney) is a world class player and I am really looking forward to seeing him getting the hoops back on, and I'm sure the supporters are as well. 'When he's marauding up and down that left hand side, it will be fantastic. 'He's obviously had a spell in England and done very well, but I think he has always been looking to get back to Celtic Park, and everyone is looking forward to seeing him back in the strip again. 'It's in his blood, and it means a bit more when you're playing for the badge.' Greg Taylor has been Celtic's first choice left-back for the last five seasons, but his future is currently uncertain, with his contract coming to an end this month. He has been linked with a move abroad, but McKinlay is still holding out hope that he will decide to stay and compete with Tierney for the position. 'Special mention to Greg, I think he's been fantastic over the years and obviously it's still to be confirmed if he will be staying or going, but it would be great if he stayed and give Kieran some competition for that left back spot. 'He has been fantastic over this period of five or six years, and I'm sure he'll be wanting to stay as well.' Market breadth was subdued, with 660 decliners outnumbering 298 gainers. Another 460 counters were unchanged, 1,005 were untraded and 11 suspended. Turnover expanded to 2.81 billion units valued at RM1.69 billion compared with Wednesday's 2.42 billion units worth RM1.79 billion. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said key regional indices closed lower as geopolitical tensions escalated following reports that the United States (US) was preparing for a potential military action against Iran. At the same time, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) warned that the ongoing trade war led by President Donald Trump may fuel inflation and hinder US economic expansion. Market participants closely monitored the Fed's latest meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, as policymakers evaluated interest rates amid the president's tariff initiative. 'On the domestic front, we maintain a vigilant stance in response to escalating global volatility and uncertainties,' he told Bernama. On the other hand, Thong said the benchmark index is near its 1,500 psychological support level and should this level be broken, the next support level will be 1,485 points followed by 1,470 points. At current valuation, he said the FBM KLCI is trading at around 12 times calendar year 2025 price-to-earnings ratio, which is way below its long-term average of more than 16 times. 'We advise investors to focus on blue-chips stocks with strong fundamentals that offer high dividends such as those in banking, telecommunications, and utilities sectors. 'We anticipate the FBM KLCI to trend within the 1,500-1,510 range towards the weekend,' said Thong. Meanwhile, UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said the FBM KLCI closed lower sans catalysts, causing market participants to remain edgy and uncertain. From January to May, he said fragile macroeconomic conditions and volatile markets were driven by fluctuating tariffs, Trump's tax bill, and Middle East tensions. Policy uncertainty, sticky inflation, and questions about the Fed's independence further fuelled concerns. For Bursa Malaysia, while foreign participation has been trending downward, it has not yet reached the the lows seen in mid-April, he added. Among the heavyweights, Maybank shed 2.0 sen to RM9.60, Tenaga and IHH Healthcare remained unchanged at RM14.22 and RM6.85 respectively, Public Bank slipped 5.0 sen to RM4.19, and CIMB declined 7.0 sen to RM6.58. For the most active stocks, PUC shed 1.0 sen to 2.0 sen, Tanco declined 2.5 sen to 95.5 sen, MYEG eased 2.5 sen to 90.5 sen, SNS Network Technology perked up 1.0 sen to 54.5 sen, and Borneo Oil was flat at 1.0 sen. On the index board, the FBM Emas Index fell 78.06 points to 11,223.74, the FBMT 100 Index lost 76.09 points to 11,004.01, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index tumbled 77.45 points to 11,232.89. The FBM 70 Index slumped 107.34 points to 16,093.45 and the FBM ACE Index was 26.29 points easier at 4,415.05. By sectors, the Plantation Index trimmed 19.43 points to 7,218.61 and the Energy Index decreased by 0.96 of-a-point to 739.65. The Financial Services Index shrank 91.28 points to 17,330.14 and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 1.82 points to 148.24. The Main Market volume increased to 1.13 billion units worth RM1.45 billion from 1.06 billion units valued at RM1.55 billion registered at Wednesday's close. Warrants turnover expanded to 1.38 billion units valued at RM164.26 million versus 1.16 billion units worth RM180.99 million previously. The ACE Market volume advanced to 294.93 million units valued at RM81.53 million against 194.00 million units valued at RM60.65 million yesterday. Ghanaians protest at Nigerian High Commission over alleged harassment

Hundreds of Ghanaian investors and community members staged a protest outside the Nigerian High Commission in Abuja yesterday, demanding action over alleged "systematic harassment, intimidation, and violation of our fundamental rights" by the Nigeria Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Ghanaian investors protested outside the Nigerian High Commission in Abuja, citing systematic harassment by Nigerian authorities. The protest highlighted arbitrary arrests and intimidation from the police and EFCC against Ghanaian businesses. A lawsuit was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by Ghanaian investors seeking an injunction against further interference. Our businesses are being hounded at every turn, stated Kojo Mensah, a lead developer for the River Park Estate project in Abuja. The investors claim their basic rights are being breached, citing arbitrary arrests, repeated police invitations, and intimidation from both the police and the EFCC. We've been arrested arbitrarily, summoned without cause, and subjected to endless interrogations, yet the very complaints we cooperated to resolve back in 2012 remain buried in some dusty file, he added. Call for intervention Waving banners proclaiming "Hands Off Ghanaian Investors!" and "Tinubu, Mahama: Intervene Now!", the demonstrators called for the immediate dismissal of Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun. They accuse him of orchestrating targeted attacks on Ghanaian businesses operating in Nigeria. The investors pleaded, We demand that President Bola Tinubu and President John Mahama use every diplomatic channel to stop this injustice. Legal action initiated The protest follows the filing of a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja by Jonah Capital and its co-plaintiffs, naming IGP Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police, and the EFCC as defendants. The plaintiffs are seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent both agencies from any further interference in the River Park Estate matter, the immediate disclosure of a long-overdue Special Investigation Panel (SIP) report, and the sum of N200m in damages for alleged breaches of their constitutional rights. According to the plaintiffs, the lawsuit aims not only to secure redress but also to protect the integrity of foreign investments in Nigeria and deter what they describe as state-sponsored intimidation of legitimate investors.

Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr spotted testing in India, will rival Honda NX500, Benelli TRK 502

The Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr is an adventure tourer and could arrive in India around the festive season this year Check Offers Austrian bike maker Brixton Motorcycles is all set to expand its lineup with a new adventure tourer, or at least that seems to be the case. The Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr was recently caught testing in India, hinting at a launch sometime this year. Brixton Motorcycles entered India last year in partnership with KAW Veloce Motors. The company already retails the Crossfire 500X and 500XC, as well as the Cromwell 1200 and 1200X. Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr: What Is It? The spy shots provide a good look at the Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr. The bike gets a purpose-built look with the tower-style layout. The round headlamp with the LED DRL retains the neo-retro design language, similar to the other offerings from the manufacturer. The bike also boasts a tall windscreen and a large plastic cladding on the side, while there are knuckle guards, a two-piece seat, and a chunky grab rail with a base for a top box. Also Read : Brixton Crossfire range launched in India: Price, variants, and features explained The Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr was spotted testing in India and will draw power from the 486 cc twin-cylinder mill that also powers the Crossfire 500 X and XC. (Zigwheels) Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr: Specifications Powering the Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr will be the 486 cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder motor, same as the one found on the Crossfire X and XC. The engine is tuned for 47 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 43 Nm of peak torque at 6,750 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The bike tips the scales at 209 kg (kerb), and has a seat height of 839 mm. The fuel tank capacity measures 16 litres. The Crossfire 500 Storr rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cross-spoke tubeless wheels wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. The bike rides on USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, while braking power comes from discs at either end. The adventure tourer comes with switchable ABS, all-LED lighting, switchable traction control, and a vertically stacked digital instrument console. Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr: Rivals & Expected Price The Brixton Crossfire 500 Storr will primarily compete against the Honda NX500 and Benelli TRK 502 in the segment. The sub-500 cc twin-cylinder adventure tourer segment has limited options, and the new Storr could be a worthy contender against the Benelli and Honda offerings. The model will also face the heat soon from the CFMoto 450MT, which is under consideration for India. Moreover, the Royal Enfield Himalayan and new-gen KTM 390 Adventure come close to the Crossfire 500 Storr in terms of performance with single-cylinder engines. The upcoming offering will be locally assembled, so expect prices to be at a slight premium around the ₹ 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. Image Source Check out Upcoming Bikes In India. Car gets stuck in sand after rescue attempt at Boscombe Beach

A car has become stuck in the sand at a tourist hot spot for the third time this summer.A witness told the BBC that a black Land Rover drove onto Boscombe Beach in Bournemouth to try and rescue two people on a broken-down water Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council are installing warning signs to remind people not to drive on to the sand following this latest incident on Tuesday evening. The local authority said cars should not be driven on the beach for the safety of tourists and residents Lee Williams and two of his friends were out fishing when they spotted the vehicle driving near to Boscombe Pier. Three key roads earmarked for upgrades in Denbighshire after £4.8m spending boost

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Three key roads in Denbighshire have been identified for improvements using money accessed from the Welsh Government. A similar exercise in Gwynedd has seen more than 60 roads and footpaths earmarked for upgrades. Denbighshire Council has secured £4.8m from Cardiff's Local Government Borrowing Initiative (LGBI) to boost its road maintenance programme. The local authority is now planning 'significant investment' to resurface three roads. They are the A525 Nany Y Garth Pass near Ruthin; the A547 Abergele Road near Rhuddlan; and Ty Newydd Road, a key conduit in Rhyl. Denbighshire's Highways aims to start work 'straight away' during the 'optimum time for carriageway surfacing works'. Cllr Barry Mellor, lead member for environment and transport, said: 'We know the improvement of the county's road network is a topic that comes up regularly from our residents. The work that will be carried out on our roads over the next two years will really help improve the network and driving experience for both residents and visitors to Denbighshire.' The LGBI funding runs for two years with Denbighshire saying improvements are planned on a 'number of roads'. Details of other highways to benefit from the funding will be released in due course. Cyngor Gwynedd received £7.8m through the LGBI scheme – it has a two-year target list that extends to more than 60 roads, paths and structures such as bridges and retaining walls. The local authority said these span the entire county from 'Llanrug to Llanystumdwy and from Tudweiliog to Tywyn'. The North Wales Live Whatsapp community for top stories and breaking news is live now - here's how to sign up (Image: Cyngor Gwynedd) Council leader Cllr Nia Jeffreys said: 'The condition of the roads is of concern to a large number of local people, but due to the dire financial situation of local authorities we have not been able to invest in the network as we would have liked. 'This investment will make a huge difference and target the areas most in need in terms of potholes in roads, resurfacing, footpaths, and other structures.' The LGBI initative was announced in March by Ken Skates, cabinet secretary for transport and North Wales. It provides an extra £10m of revenue funding to enable local councils to unlock £120m of additional capital funding. A similar scheme was rolled out successfully in Wales between 2012 and 2014. Cllr June Jones, Cyngor Gwynedd's cabinet member for highways, said the extra cash will enable a broader programme of work to be carried out on the country's roads. 'It also means the council will be able to plan spending much better,' she said. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox 'For example, this past financial year, £750,000 was spent on filling potholes on our network here in Gwynedd. This is not the best use of our road maintenance revenue funding as it is completely responsive. 'Through this investment over two years, we are confident that we will reduce our emergency spending on filling potholes in roads and spend more on programmed resurfacing work.' ‘Deplorable' poisoning of White-Tailed Eagle in Kerry under investigation

The young female eagle was brought in as a chick from Norway in 2024 by the White-tailed Eagle Reintroduction Programme, managed by NPWS, under the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Sadly the bird was found dead in Glencar in April of this year and toxicology reports show it was poisoned by a illegal substance. The NPWS have launched an investigation into the death of the eagle and have strongly criticised the incident. Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O'Sullivan TD also criticised the incident. The young female eagle released in Killarney National Park in 2024. Since 2020, all eagles released as part of this programme are monitored via satellite-tags. Concerns were raised in early April, as the eagle's satellite tag showed that she had remained stationary for several days. NPWS staff went to the location of the satellite tag and located the partially decomposed carcass of the eagle in a woodland. Toxicology tests have confirmed it had been poisoned with Carbofuran, an insecticide which has been banned in Ireland since 2007. It is not known how the eagle ingested this substance at this time. The NPWS said it 'deplores the deliberate killing of rare and endangered species, and takes bird of prey persecutions extremely seriously.' Deputy O'Sullivan said that the loss is 'regrettable' but will not stop efforts to introduce the bird of prey. 'Any loss in the wild not due to natural causes, is usually the result of human activity and this tragic loss is deeply regrettable.' 'We will continue with our efforts to introduce, nurture and protect these birds as part of The Reintroduction Programme which has been making significant progress in restoring this lost flagship species to Irish skies. The White Tailed Eagle is part of Ireland's natural heritage and are important for our biodiversity, as they are a good indicator species regarding the health of our ecosystems.' Considerable efforts in recent years to reintroduce this iconic species, which was driven to extinction in the 19th and early 20th century by human persecution, have successfully contributed to the species re-establishment in Ireland. The White-tailed Eagle Reintroduction Programme, which began in 2007, has so far released nearly 200 young eagles which have been supplied by the Norwegian Government. Currently, there are 13-16 breeding pairs, with 64 chicks fledged by the end of 2024. Sadly, however, a number of the eagles brought in as part of the programme have met untimely deaths. Recently, it was announced that a male eagle which held territory in Lough Derg for 17 years had been found dead, also suspected due to poisoning. The NPWS said the 'persecution by humans is the biggest threat to the reintroduction programme in Ireland." "The misuse/illegal use of poisons accounts for nearly 50% of eagle deaths where the cause of mortality was able to be determined, and at least one eagle has been shot. In terms of natural causes of death, a number of eagles have succumbed to avian flu, as well as other conditions,' they said. The NPWS have now launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for information. 'We appealing for any information the public may have in relation to the incident, or any other suspected poisoning or other unlawful killing of birds." Any information in respect of this or any suspected breaches of the Wildlife legislation should be reported to the NPWS head office or local offices or via email to wildlifeenforcement@ Wildlife crime incidents can also be reported to An Garda Síochána. The NPWS has also stressed that in the interests of public health and safety, the public should not handle dead birds.

Living example of traditional farmland safeguarded for nature

An area of farmland in Co Fermanagh has been preserved as a nature reserve. The 90-acre area at Fedian has been described as brimming with wildflower meadows, bird-friendly hedgerows and ancient woodland. Advertisement It has now been purchased by nature conservation charity Ulster Wildlife as its newest nature reserve thanks to funding support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Wildlife Trusts, and gifts in wills from Ulster Wildlife supporters. Fedian Nature Reserve, located close to Derrygonnelly is termed as a living example of traditional farmland, previously owned by the Nixon family and sympathetically managed by local grazier George Ferguson. It is untouched by modern farming methods such as fertiliser and slurry, and its habitats have become a haven for wildlife, including threatened species such as red squirrels, pine martens and otters as well as woodcocks, marsh fritillary butterflies and a wealth of wildflowers. The red squirrel is one of several threatened species now protected at the ancient woodland of Fedian Nature Reserve. Photo: Ulster Wildlife/Adam Gerrard Peter McEvoy, Director of Land Management at Ulster Wildlife, said it is a special place. Advertisement 'When we first stepped foot on Fedian over eight years ago through our Environmental Farming Scheme Group programme, we knew it was a special place, reminiscent of fields that time had forgotten,' he said. 'It is home to one of the few remaining remnants of species-rich grassland and centuries-old woodland in Northern Ireland – two vanishing landscape types that tell the story of what's been lost, and what we still have time to protect. 'This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure a site of exceptional nature value, something that would take tens, if not hundreds, of years to recreate.' Dr Paul Mullan, Northern Ireland director at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said it awarded £150,000 (€175,000) to help acquire the grasslands of Fedian. Advertisement 'We're committed to supporting nature recovery, and with Ulster Wildlife securing this haven for nature, it means that this vital habitat and the species found there can thrive,' he said. 'It's a wonderful example of our natural heritage, combining precious, ancient woodland and an intact example of pre-war farmland. 'We're so pleased that people will be able to connect with this untouched landscape, whether through its use as a nature-friendly farming demonstration site or on a guided walk.' Ulster Wildlife said Fedian Nature Reserve will continue to be actively farmed, with low numbers of cattle grazed across the site to maintain the wildflower-rich grasslands awash with orchids in summer, from early purple to yellow bird's nest, to swathes of devil's bit scabious. Advertisement Ireland Windfarm must shut down three turbines and pay €36... Read More They also said grazing is vital to ensure the population of Europe's most threatened butterflies, the marsh fritillary, which thrives there, along with the locally rare dingy skipper butterfly. It will not be open for general public access, but will serve as a model for nature-friendly farming, with the charity hosting demonstration events, knowledge-sharing with local farmers, and annual guided walks for the community and Ulster Wildlife members. Mr McEvoy added: 'This is not just about protecting a unique wildlife haven; it's about demonstrating what farming and nature conservation can look like side by side. 'Our aim is for Fedian Nature Reserve to become a beacon for nature-friendly land management, and we're delighted to have been able to secure its future for generations to come.'

Energy suppliers to contact customers as nationwide shut-off shifts

Households will need to take action before the radio signal connecting their meters and energy suppliers shuts down Approximately 314,000 households in the UK utilise Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters for their energy supply. However, the radio signal these meters depend on is being retired, which could lead to soaring bills or disruption to heating and hot water supplies for those who fail to act before the switch off. The original deadline for this switch off was June 30, but just days ahead of this date, the government confirmed that the change will be implemented in a "cautious and targeted phase out". ‌ This update came after fuel poverty campaigners argued that the hard cut-off was "unachievable". The government has assured those affected by the switch off that they will be contacted by their suppliers, who can advise on the necessary steps to take. ‌ Disability charity Scope also highlighted: "We are urging disabled people to act, before Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters are switched off." Phil, Scope's Disability Energy Support expert, shared his own experience: "I recently upgraded my own RTS meter, and this is what you need to know." He cautioned: "If you have an RTS meter (black box in the image), your heating and hot water supply could stop working as normal. You may find it's continually left on or off, or the charging-up happens at the wrong time of day. "Your energy bills could be much higher than before. This is because your electricity supplier won't be able to confirm how much electricity you have used during peak or off-peak times. " Miatta Fahnbulleh, the minister for energy consumers, made an announcement in a written statement on June 18, stating: "My department has stepped in to ensure there will be a managed and more controlled start of the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) phase out from 30 June. People with an RTS meter will not face any unexpected disruption to their heating or hot water at the end of the month." ‌ The Scope expert urged consumers: "It's important that you contact your energy supplier before the switch-off. This will ensure there is no disruption to your electricity supply or impact on your bills." "Contact your electricity supplier as soon as possible and ask for a free upgrade to a smart meter. You're not required to accept a smart meter. "In some cases, a smart meter upgrade may not be available. Your supplier must still provide a suitable alternative to keep your energy supply running properly. Speak to your supplier to understand the options available to you." To identify if you have an RTS meter, Phil outlined the following indicators: You have a separate switch box near your meter labelled 'Radio Teleswitch' Your home is heated with electricity or storage heaters There's no gas supply in your area You get cheaper energy at certain times of the day
