Koraput admn initiates process to expand Jeypore airport

1 2 Koraput: In a major step toward enhancing regional air connectivity, the Koraput administration has initiated the land schedule exercise to facilitate the expansion of Jeypore airport from 2B to 3C category. The proposed upgrade will enable the airport to accommodate 72-seater aircrafts and support round-the-clock operations, unaffected by runway visual range limitations. According to sub-collector (Jeypore) A Sasya Reddy, the state commerce department has approved the airport's upgradation and over 200 acres of land will be acquired to meet the requirements. "Following instructions from the state govt, a detailed land schedule survey has been initiated to identify the coordinates and quantum of land needed for the expansion," she said. The land identified for acquisition includes areas in Banko Bija, Gagnapur and Ekamba villages. As part of the process, a social impact assessment survey will follow, along with gram sabha meetings, to record the opinions and grievances of the affected villagers. "If all procedures move forward smoothly, we are hopeful that larger aircrafts could begin operations at Jeypore airport within the next two years," Reddy added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Jeypore tehsildar Chittranjan Patnaik stated that while the exact land requirement is still under final assessment, approximately 250 to 280 acres, both private and govt land, may be acquired. The move comes after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) submitted a favourable feasibility survey report last August, supporting the airport's expansion. Under the proposed plan, the current 1,200-meter runway will be extended to 2,700 meters, with additional upgrades in safety and security infrastructure to meet higher operational standards. Jeypore airport, which began commercial operations on October 31, 2022 under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, currently handles two nine-seater flights daily between Bhubaneswar and Jeypore and one daily flight connecting Jeypore to Visakhapatnam. "The expansion will significantly boost regional connectivity, enhance the tourism potential of the district while positioning Jeypore as a vital travel and economic hub in the state," Reddy added.

Shipwrecks: HC raises concern over state forming panel to negotiate claim details with vessel owners

Kochi: High court on Thursday raised concerns over the state govt forming a committee to negotiate compensation details with the owners of MSC ELSA 3, the cargo vessel which capsized off the Kerala coast. A bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji observed that since the state proposes to invoke the high court's admiralty jurisdiction to seek compensation, it may be appropriate to defer the negotiation process for the time being. The observation came while HC was hearing public interest litigations filed by former MP T N Prathapan and Ummer Ottummal of Malappuram, seeking a comprehensive compensation package for fishermen and other stakeholders affected by recent shipwrecks along the Kerala coast. During hearing, the state submitted that the environment department special secretary has been appointed as the principal impact assessment officer. It was also stated that the state disaster management department has constituted a committee of govt officers to negotiate compensation for the damage caused by MSC ELSA 3. The committee has been tasked with addressing the cost of restoring the coastline and marine environment, removal of wrecks, economic losses suffered by fishermen and environmental degradation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? IC Markets Mendaftar Undo HC noted that if such is the case, concerns raised by the petitioners would merit consideration. It could be argued that negotiations involving substantial environmental damage should not be conducted behind closed doors and take place without public disclosure or procedural safeguards. Questions may arise regarding the transparency and fairness of such a process. It could be further argued that since the harm directly affects the public, the process of settlement cannot remain confidential or hidden from public view. The public has a right to know the basis of the negotiations, the extent of damage assessed, the terms being proposed, and the principles on which the settlement is being structured. The court also observed that a binding settlement between the state and the respondent company might affect claims in the proposed Admiralty suit. There is a risk that once an agreement is signed, it could influence subsequent legal proceedings, even if the terms are inadequate. On the other hand, a settlement arrived at in court after the filing of a suit would allow judicial scrutiny, ensuring transparency and bringing the terms into the public domain, the court said. Accordingly, the bench adjourned the petitions to July 2 for further response from the state and other stakeholders.

2 women caught extorting 3L from man at Jaipur cafe

Jaipur: Two women involved in a major sextortion and blackmail racket were caught red-handed at a cafe in Jaipur after they extorted cheques worth Rs 3 lakh from a man by threatening to file a false rape case. DCP (west) Amit Kumar said the accused have been identified as Meetu Pareek (47), a resident of Vidhyut Nagar under Chitrakoot Police Station, and Indu Verma (47), a resident of Chander Badrai Nagar in Ajmer. He added the duo targeted affluent men, threatening them with fabricated rape charges and coercing them into paying large sums of money to 'settle' the matter quietly. Investigations revealed that the women forced their victims to sign affidavits and payment agreements under pressure. They also provided their own affidavits confirming receipt of the payments, likely to create a false sense of legal closure and avoid future claims. The extortion racket was busted at a cafe in Vaishali Nagar on June 16. Acting on a tip-off, a team of plainclothes officers swooped in just as the accused collected the cheques. Police arrested them on the spot and seized Rs 2.22 lakh in cash from one of the women's purses—believed to be extorted from previous victims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo According to officials, the duo allegedly lured wealthy men into staying with them at hotels and then blackmailed them with threats of filing false rape cases unless hefty payments—starting from Rs 50 lakh—were made. The investigation began after a man lodged a complaint on June 13. He claimed two of his friends had sent him to deliver a large sum of cash to Pareek Meetu at her Chitrakoot residence. When questioned, the friends admitted they had stayed with the women at a luxury hotel in Kukas on May 21. "The two men claimed that the women agreed to come with them of their own accord without any pressure or force," said an official. However, police said, they claimed that a few days later, the women began threatening to file rape charges unless they were paid Rs 50 lakh.
