Jose Mourinho ‘holds meeting with Heung-Min Son' as Tottenham name price for club captain
HEUNG-MIN SON is being lined up for a blockbuster move by Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
After a mostly dismal campaign, the Tottenham captain, 32, could bid farewell to the club after 10 years, with only one year left on his contract, though Spurs will not be letting him go cheaply.
1
According to Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, he could be set to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho.
A face-to-face meeting between player and manager to discuss a potential move is said to have taken place, with the pair believed to have maintained a strong relationship, though the Istanbul club may need to part with at least £25million to get their man.
SunSport understands that the player is open to a move, with the historic Europa League triumph viewed as a perfect way to depart on a positive note.
The duo linked up for eighteen months at Spurs, where Son enjoyed great success, bagging 22 league goals in 51 appearances under Mourinho, even scooping the Puskas Award during his tenure.
The Portuguese manager would be yearning for this form to return if a move is completed, after watching Fenerbahce's fierce city rivals Galatasaray clinch a third straight Super Lig title.
Mourinho's club are keen to make a splash in the market, and were recently been linked to Man City outcast Kyle Walker.
But as exclusively reported by SunSport, it appears the England right-back is instead heading to Merseyside to work under David Moyes at Everton.
Manchester United flop Sofyan Amrabat for the start of the window.
Whilst rumours are also circling that Santos megastar Neymar could join, according to French outlet L'Equipe, in what would be a head-turning deal.
However, any move for Heung-Min Son may have to wait.
Spurs are desperate to hang on to Son for their lucrative pre-season trip to Asia to honour agreements with tour organisers, due to the star's huge continental presence and significant commercial value he brings to the club.
If Son were to depart prior to this, a breach of contract with organisers could leave the possibility of a sizeable financial penalty being slapped upon the North London outfit, meaning a swift resolution over the player's future is improbable.
It is also understood that the player is the subject of interest from three Saudi Pro League clubs.
Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr and Al-Qadsiah are all looking to swoop for the South Korean star, with a potential transfer saga now firmly on the cards.
This could hurt Fenerbahce 's hopes of getting a deal over the line.

Man Utd and Tottenham respond after learning Antoine Semenyo's price tag
AFC Bournemouth have slapped a £65million price tag on Antoine Semenyo amid transfer interest from Manchester United and Tottenham. Both clubs are looking to add more firepower to their squad this summer, with the Red Devils signing Matheus Cunha, while Spurs have made Mathys Tel's loan from Bayern Munich permanent. Bryan Mbeumo has also been linked with both teams, with Thomas Frank hoping to hijack United's transfer for his former Brentford talisman. Semenyo is another name on their shortlists after a stellar 2024/25 season where he scored 13 goals and made seven assists in 42 appearances. Liverpool are also looking at the 25-year-old, though their interest may have cooled as they are already on course to spend over £200m this summer on Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. The Reds' spending spree could even continue, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi now a top target. Capable of playing on either flank, or even as a centre-forward, Semenyo is a key part of Andoni Iraola's side, hence his high valuation. However, the Ghana international's price tag seems to be a little too high, with The Athletic reporting that it has 'deterred short-term interest' from the aforementioned suitors. More Trending It is said Tottenham have made an enquiry to the Cherries about the forward but are 'not proceeding with a move' at this point in time. Bournemouth seem unlikely to lower their valuation any time soon as Semenyo, who joined the club from Bristol City for £10m in 2023, still has four years left on his contract. Moreover, the Premier League side have already banked £90m this transfer window by selling Kerkez to Liverpool and Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid. They have also rejected two bids, the latest worth £55m, from PSG for their highly-rated Ukraine centre-back Illia Zabarnyi, who they value at upswards of £70m. Why Gianluigi Buffon 'VETOED' Jose Mourinho as Italy coach after Adidas 'agreed to part fund' appointment of controversial Portuguese
Jose Mourinho was being considered for the role of Italy coach before Azzurri legend Gianluigi Buffon vetoed his appointment — according to reports from Italy. Italy last week appointed former AC Milan and Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso, as the successor to Luciano Spalletti. The Italian Federation acted quickly to bring in the 47-year-old as their new national coach with Spalletti given his marching orders after Italy's dismal 3-0 defeat by Norway in Oslo on June 6. Before they settled on Gattuso, however, they came very close to appointing Mourinho — according to La Repubblica. The report explains that the national team's kit supplier, Adidas, were ready to cover part of the Portuguese's boss' salary. Mourinho is an Adidas ambassador and has had a close relationship with the German company for over a decade. Nonetheless, the Italian Federation would have had to fork out a significant compensation fee to Fenerbahce with the Special One still contracted to the Turkish club for one more year. Jose Mourinho was being seriously considered for the role according to reports from Italy Any approach for Mourinho was apparently stopped in its tracks though by Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon. The 47-year-old is the head of delegation of the Italian national team. Buffon reportedly did not want former Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham boss Mourinho as Italy coach because he felt the team would react best to a national legend at the helm. Reports in Italy have also claimed that Buffon threatened to resign if Roberto Mancini was reappointed as manager. When his fellow 2006 World Cup winner Gattuso was appointed, Buffon said: 'My contract ends on June 30 every year, so resignations were never an issue. 'We chose Rino in consultation with the President and the other professionals we spoke to. I don't think there are good or bad coaches at this level, but rather coaches who are functional to what the team needs. It was a good moment for Rino to become the national team coach.

Manchester City open to letting Ilkay Gündogan join Galatasaray
Galatasaray are considering a move for Ilkay Gündogan, with Manchester City open to a transfer for the 34-year-old midfielder. The Turkish club are believed to have inquired about Gündogan's availability in the winter window but City did not want him to leave midway through the season. But with Pep Guardiola having signed Nico González in February and Tijjani Reijnders in this window, with Rodri again fit after a serious knee injury and Mateo Kovacic expected back from an achilles problem in mid-September, game time for Gündogan may be limited. Although the one-year extension on Gündogan's contract was triggered towards the end of last season after he played a certain number of minutes, he may be allowed to leave without a fee. The German, whose parents were born in Turkey, is believed to have a desire to play for Galatasaray, the Super Lig champions. The former Germany international, who turns 35 in October, suggested he still had much to offer. 'There seems to be a trend at the moment in football where people are saying: 'This player is too old,' or: 'Another one cannot run any more.' But we always have had this in football. 'You need experienced players on the pitch. I know that when I was 18 or 19 I was looking up to those experienced players. Just by watching what they did – and how they did it – I learned. It wasn't always necessary for them to say anything. All young players need some experience around them. Sometimes you don't have to work harder but work smarter.'
