PUTRAJAYA, June 20 — Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will lead Malaysia's delegation to the 51st Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Turkiye, from June 21 to 22, 2025. The Foreign Ministry, in a statement released yesterday, said that the meeting will involve the participation of foreign ministers and representatives from 57 OIC Member States. 'The Foreign Minister will deliver a National Statement highlighting Malaysia's views and position on issues of common concern under the OIC, such as the situation in Palestine and their rights to self-determination,' said the ministry. The National Statement will also address the rise of Islamophobia and all forms of hatred towards religion, emphasise economic cooperation, and initiatives that Malaysia has undertaken in pursuing the objectives of the OIC, it added. With the theme of 'OIC in a Transforming World', this meeting is expected to deliberate and agree on common approaches for addressing the political, socio-economic, and cultural challenges faced by the Ummah, through the adoption of the Istanbul Declaration and nearly 146 proposed resolutions, the ministry stated. The meeting also serves as a platform to expand cooperation and solidarity among OIC Member States in promoting peace and security for the Ummah and the global community at large, particularly amid the current escalating tensions in the Middle East region, it said. — Bernama

Operating room tragedy after famous singer 'took her surgeon out on the town' night before her nose and boob job
A singer who died hours after undergoing plastic surgery allegedly went on a boozy night out with her surgeon the night before going under the knife. Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini went into cardiac arrest and died at a hospital in Turkey after receiving a breast augmentation, liposuction and a nose job. The singer, 31, traveled with her artist husband, Elgar Miles, from their home in Mozambique to Istanbul last Friday for the surgeries. Miles told Brazilian news outlet O Tempo that she was receiving the procedures in return for promoting Tusa Hospital. 'She wanted to undergo these procedures to improve her aesthetic standards. It was a dream of hers,' Miles said. The couple, who married just a month ago, allegedly partied with the physician doing the surgeries in Istanbul on Saturday night, G1 reports. Miles said they inquired about changing the date of the operation which was scheduled for Wednesday, to allow an extra day to recover. 'Due to scheduling issues, the surgeon decided to bring it forward to Sunday,' Miles said. 'We went to the clinic on Sunday just to see the place, but the doctor wanted to perform the procedure without Ana being prepared.' Despite being out the night before, Miles claims his wife was persuaded to go ahead. 'The doctor assured me that there were no problems and that everything would be fine,' Miles told G1 news outlet. Ana Bárbara underwent the procedures and was out of the operating room by 11 pm Sunday. Miles said the doctor sent him a photo that showed the singer recovering. Staff updated Miles and told him that she was still under anesthesia and that it would not take long for her to wake up. But his concerns grew after he noticed a change in the staff's mood. 'They told me to go to the room, the assistants were acting strangely. I waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive her,' Miles said. 'I went down to the ground floor and a doctor said that her heart was beating slowly, another said that she was already dead.' The doctors were detained at the hospital and later released by the Turkish police. In a statement obtained by Turkish outlet Turkiye Today, Tusa Hospital denied any malpractice and said its staff attempted to revive Ana Bárbara. 'Despite all efforts by our expert anesthesiology team, the patient could not be resuscitated,' the medical facility said. Ana Bárbara and Miles were married May 3 in Maputo, Mozambique, six years after meeting in Rome. At the time she was employed at a tattoo studio next to the music recording studio Miles owned. 'She was the person who cared for me the most, who loved me the most, who believed in me the most,' he said. 'I just want justice to be done and for this case to serve as an example for all people who want to undergo a type of medical intervention like the one Ana underwent.' In a heart-breaking tribute on Instagram, Miles laid bare the extent of his agony. 'Our last few days were too beautiful to end this tragically,' he wrote. 'I will love you forever because I chose you for that. Years and years of building our empire for today I'm here in this room alone with no floor. 'I promised to protect and love you like the queen and beautiful person you are inside and out. It doesn't seem fair living this life without you, not really. 'I want to be wherever you are because none of this makes sense without you.' The Daily Mail has approached Tusa Hospital, the Turkish authorities and the Brazilian Embassy for comment.

Morata on Como shortlist despite ongoing Galatasaray commitment
Reports in Italy claim that Spain national team captain Alvaro Morata, who is still owned by Milan, could be an option for Como in the summer transfer window, despite the player's ongoing loan deal with Galatasaray. Morata joined Milan in the last summer transfer window, in 2024, after the Rossoneri agreed to pay the €13m release clause in the Spaniard's contract with Atletico Madrid. Advertisement The first half of the 2024-25 season did not get off to the smoothest of starts for Morata, or for the Rossoneri collectively. Head coach Paulo Fonseca, who had only taken over in the summer, was sacked at the end of December, and Morata followed him out of the door soon afterwards. epa11819103 AC Milan's Alvaro Morata celebrates after scoring the 1-0 goal during the Italian Serie A soccer match between AC Milan and Cagliari Calcio, in Milan, Italy, 11 January 2025. EPA-EFE/MATTEO BAZZI In the end, Morata joined Galatasaray on loan with a series of options to buy. Galatasaray paid a fee of €6m to bring Morata in on loan for 12 months, until January of 2026. They have an option to extend that loan deal until June 2026 for an additional €3m, and have options to buy in January 2026 for €8m and in June 2026 for €9m. Advertisement Gianluca Di Marzio adds that there has already been contact between the Spain international and compatriot Fabregas. Cesc Fabregas's side are backed by the wealthiest owners of any club in Serie A, and also have the benefit of a strong relationship between the coach and Morata, who played together at Chelsea and for the Spain national team. Cagliari's Roberto Piccoli has also been mentioned as a possible option for Como.

Turkiye should investigate ‘police violence' against protesters: Amnesty
ISTANBUL: Amnesty International called on Turkish authorities Thursday to launch an investigation into alleged 'police violence' during a wave of protests this year, saying some instances 'could amount to acts of torture.' The arrest of Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu on March 19, the leading opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, sparked Türkiye's worst street protests in over a decade. 'Our findings reveal damning evidence of unlawful force frequently used by law enforcement officers,' said Esther Major, a deputy director at the global human rights group. 'The authorities used tear gas, pepper spray, kinetic impact projectiles and water cannons against people who were simply exercising their rights,' she said in a statement. 'The violations documented constitute cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment and, in some cases, may amount to torture,' Major said, calling for the launch of an investigation. Imamoglu was widely seen as the biggest political rival to Erdogan and his jailing is likely to prevent him from running in the 2028 presidential election. Authorities said they arrested nearly 1,900 people during the protests, most of whom were accused of participating in illegal gatherings. The vast majority have since been released. Amnesty said it had 'verified dozens of videos documenting how protesters were beaten, kicked and dragged on the ground by law enforcement officials even when they were dispersing, not resisting or were already restrained.' The NGO said some 'protesters were subjected to water cannon, tear gas, kinetic impact projectiles by police, often at very close range directly targeting the head and upper body, in violation of international human rights law.' One of them required retinal surgery and may lose sight in one eye, Amnesty said.
