Manchester City open to letting Ilkay Gündogan join Galatasaray
Galatasaray are considering a move for Ilkay Gündogan, with Manchester City open to a transfer for the 34-year-old midfielder. The Turkish club are believed to have inquired about Gündogan's availability in the winter window but City did not want him to leave midway through the season. But with Pep Guardiola having signed Nico González in February and Tijjani Reijnders in this window, with Rodri again fit after a serious knee injury and Mateo Kovacic expected back from an achilles problem in mid-September, game time for Gündogan may be limited. Advertisement Related: Manchester City fined £1m by Premier League over delayed kick-offs and restarts Although the one-year extension on Gündogan's contract was triggered towards the end of last season after he played a certain number of minutes, he may be allowed to leave without a fee. The German, whose parents were born in Turkey, is believed to have a desire to play for Galatasaray, the Super Lig champions. The former Germany international, who turns 35 in October, suggested he still had much to offer. 'There seems to be a trend at the moment in football where people are saying: 'This player is too old,' or: 'Another one cannot run any more.' But we always have had this in football. 'You need experienced players on the pitch. I know that when I was 18 or 19 I was looking up to those experienced players. Just by watching what they did – and how they did it – I learned. It wasn't always necessary for them to say anything. All young players need some experience around them. Sometimes you don't have to work harder but work smarter.'

Jose Mourinho 'holds talks' with Son Heung-min as Fenerbahce chase Spurs star
Son Heung-min could end up leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Fenerbahce this summer with former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho eyeing up a reunion with the South Korea star Former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is keen to set up a reunion with Son Heung-min in Turkey, it has been claimed. Mourinho's Fenerbahce finished second in the Super Lig last season and are looking to strengthen as they aim to get through qualfiying rounds and reach the league phase of the Champions League. One of those targets is South Korea forward Son. Spurrs triggered an extension in the 32-year-old's contract back in January, but his deal only runs until the summer of 2026 and the London club could cash in for the right price. There have been Saudi Pro League links, though Son previously turned down a big-money offer to move to the gulf state. Now, though, reports in Turkey suggest Mourinho is ready to give the forward a way out. Fenerbahce are expected to need to part with around £25million if they want to land Son. However, the player is said to be open to the switch. Son played 70 times for Spurs under Mourinho, scoring 29 goals and adding 25 assists. He scored the first of his four Premier League hat-tricks under the Portuguese, scoring four of his team's five goals in a victory over Southampton in 2020. Spurs have been busy in the early part of the transfer window, completing permanent moves for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel after successful loans. They also continue to be linked with Bryan Mbeumo, and a move for the Cameroon forward would leave them well-stocked in attack. They have also made a change in the dugout, with Thomas Frank replacing Ange Postecoglou. Former Brentford boss Frank has spoken to club media for the first time since taking charge "The feeling of being the new head coach is extraordinary, really looking forward to this massive challenge," Frank said. "Together with a lot of good people, only heard good stuff about the club, training ground, players, good squad. Massive club, massive potential. Just super, super excited."They've done a very good process, Daniel Levy and Vinai [Venkatesham] and Johan Lange. I've had very good conversations with them where we've discussed everything, details about the club's structure and processes. "Of course I came here to put my view on things and how I saw it, my ideas and the way I want to do things. The way I try to build a team. It's not just me, yes the head coach is important but if I don't have good people around me, it's impossible. If you want to achieve something big, you go together." The Spurs skipper looks set to depart North London this summer JOSE'S FAVOURITE SON Jose Mourinho 'holds meeting with Heung-Min Son' as Tottenham name price for club captain HEUNG-MIN SON is being lined up for a blockbuster move by Turkish giants Fenerbahce. After a mostly dismal campaign, the Tottenham captain, 32, could bid farewell to the club after 10 years, with only one year left on his contract, though Spurs will not be letting him go cheaply. Advertisement 1 Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with Heung-Min Son at Fenerbahce, according to reports Credit: EPA According to Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, he could be set to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho. A face-to-face meeting between player and manager to discuss a potential move is said to have taken place, with the pair believed to have maintained a strong relationship, though the Istanbul club may need to part with at least £25million to get their man. SunSport understands that the player is open to a move, with the historic Europa League triumph viewed as a perfect way to depart on a positive note. The duo linked up for eighteen months at Spurs, where Son enjoyed great success, bagging 22 league goals in 51 appearances under Mourinho, even scooping the Puskas Award during his tenure. Mourinho's club are keen to make a splash in the market, and were recently been linked to Man City outcast Kyle Walker. But as exclusively reported by SunSport, it appears the England right-back is instead heading to Merseyside to work under David Moyes at Everton. Fenerbahce have though already agreed the £10m permanent transfer of former Manchester United flop Sofyan Amrabat for the start of the window. Daniel Levy reveals he wants Tottenham to win Champions League AND Premier League under 'super' Thomas Frank Spurs are desperate to hang on to Son for their lucrative pre-season trip to Asia to honour agreements with tour organisers, due to the star's huge continental presence and significant commercial value he brings to the club. Advertisement If Son were to depart prior to this, a breach of contract with organisers could leave the possibility of a sizeable financial penalty being slapped upon the North London outfit, meaning a swift resolution over the player's future is improbable. It is also understood that the player is the subject of interest from three Saudi Pro League clubs. Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr and Al-Qadsiah are all looking to swoop for the South Korean star, with a potential transfer saga now firmly on the cards. This could hurt Fenerbahce 's hopes of getting a deal over the line.
