Is Basai waste plant expansion feasible? MCG will study
Gurgaon: MCG is planning to assess the financial viability of expanding the Basai construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing plant's capacity. The evaluation follows their proposal to the urban local bodies (ULB) department sent over a year ago, requesting an increase in the plant's processing capacity from 300 metric tonne per day to a minimum of 1,000 tonne per day (TPD).
The ULB department, in collaboration with MCG, has decided to conduct a cost analysis to ensure the expansion doesn't strain the municipal body's financial resources
"We are going to conduct a cost analysis of the existing plant before pushing for its extension. In addition to this, we are studying various successful models of collection, transportation and processing of C&D waste across the state," said a senior MCG official.
The plant, inaugurated by former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar in 2017, started operations in Oct 2019. Since then, it has processed 300 TPD of construction waste. Moreover, in the absence of an agency to collect C&D waste, the one operating the plant has been given the contract to collect it from 15km radius of the plant. The civic body floated three tenders for C&D waste collection and transportation since Jan 2025 but failed to find contractors.

Meanwhile, MCG officials said they have plans to revive the auto market C&D waste collection site and set up a construction waste collection centre in Sector 29.
According to MCG estimates, the city produces around 1,500 to 2,000 tonnes of construction waste daily. As per the request for proposal (RFP), waste collection is a Rs 9-crore project which mandates the use of GPS-equipped vehicles and the establishment of a dedicated helpline for the resolution of complaints within 48 hours.
The agency hired would also need to submit their vehicles' registration details and fitness certificates before starting work. However, agencies are not participating in the bid, officials said.
In Sept last year, MCG hired nine private agencies for collecting C&D waste from across the city but had to terminate their contracts citing substandard performance.

Accenture Q3 earnings: Revenue rises 8% to $17.7 billion on Gen-AI momentum; Gen-AI revenue tops $700 million
Accenture on Friday reported an 8% year-on-year rise in revenue to $17.7 billion for the March-May quarter of FY25, supported by growing demand for AI-related services. The Ireland-headquartered IT services firm, which follows --a September-August fiscal calendar, also raised the lower end of its full--year revenue growth guidance to 6-7% in local currency from 5-7% earlier. The company's Q3 performance included a modest positive foreign exchange impact of 0.5%, it said in a statement. Accenture's gross margin for the quarter stood at 32.9%, compared with 33.4% in the same period last year. Accenture Chair and CEO Julie Sweet said, 'We continue to deliver on our strategy to be our clients' reinvention partner of choice and lead in Gen-AI,' highlighting that Gen-AI bookings for the quarter hit $1.5 billion, with revenues exceeding $700 million. Year-to-date, Accenture has secured $4.1 billion in Gen-AI bookings and generated $1.8 billion in revenue. According to the company, new bookings in Q3 totalled $19.7 billion, down 6% in US dollar terms. Of this, $9.08 billion came from consulting services and $10.62 billion from managed services. Conman arrested for cheating investors in Erode district
COIMBATORE: A conman, who had been absconding for two years, was arrested by the economic offences wing police in Erode district on Friday in connection with a cheating case. The arrested man has been identified as Franklin, 50. Police said Naveenkumar, 38, of Edaiyankattuvalasu in Erode district started two companies -- Unique Exports and East Valley Agro Farms -- in 2017. He became the managing director of the two firms. Muthuselvan, an ex-serviceman from Ramanathapuram, was functioning as a partner. They promised a monthly return of Rs 18,000 as an incentive against a Rs 1 lakh deposit. Similarly, the firm offered various schemes to the investors. The general public, ex-servicemen and their families invested huge amounts in the two companies. The investors got incentives for two months. After that, the firms failed to give them incentives. Later, the companies were closed. Initially, the victims lodged a complaint with the Erode district crime branch police, who registered a case against Naveenkumar, Muthuselvan and a few others.
