James Gunn confirms Superman runtime; dismisses rumours of external edits

Mint05-06-2025

Washington [US], June 5 (ANI): With the premiere of 'Superman' just around the corner, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has addressed lingering questions surrounding the film's runtime and rumours about studio interference.
The eagerly awaited movie, set to launch on July 11, is one of the cornerstones of Gunn's new DC Universe (DCU) and marks the beginning of 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters'.
In a direct response to fan inquiries on the social media platform Threads, Gunn confirmed that the film's runtime, including credits and post-credit scenes, will be 2 hours and 9 minutes.
The announcement came after a user asked if the 2-hour, 9-minute duration was accurate.
Gunn clarified, "Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes."
The director also took the opportunity to address a circulating rumour that Warner Bros. had forced him to shorten the film's runtime.
Gunn categorically denied the claim and said, "Zero truth to that."
He further emphasised that as a DC Studios film, the studio had no such influence over the project.
"And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to. It's a DC Studios film," Gunn remarked, as quoted by Deadline.
This restates any speculation that Warner Bros. played a role in trimming the movie.
The upcoming 'Superman' film, written, directed, and co-produced by Gunn, will explore the journey of Clark Kent, portrayed by David Corenswet, as he grapples with his Kryptonian heritage and his life in Smallville with his adoptive family.
The film represents a pivotal moment in the relaunch of the DC Universe under Gunn's leadership and will be the first film of the new DCU Chapter One.
'Superman' boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Alongside David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan will star as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult will take on the iconic role of Lex Luthor.
The film will also feature performances from Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, as per Deadline.
Isabela Merced rounds out the cast as Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl.
The film will also see several characters crossing over from the established DC Universe, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica (The Engineer), and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, better known to fans as 'Supergirl'.
With a diverse cast, Gunn's 'Superman' is set to be an exciting new chapter for the DC franchise.
As the first film in the DC Universe's 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters', 'Superman' is more than just a retelling of the 'Man of Steel's origin story.
It promises to explore Clark Kent's internal conflict as he navigates the complexities of his dual identity, bridging the gap between his Kryptonian roots and his Earth-bound family and friends in Smallville. (ANI)

India has weeks of fuel reserves, will receive energy via multiple routes, says Hardeep Singh Puri

His comments come as tensions escalate in some of the world's most critical energy-producing regions. Puri said that India continues to receive energy supplies through multiple routes, ensuring continuity and stability in procurement despite geopolitical uncertainties. In a post on X, the minister said the government has been 'closely monitoring the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East since the past two weeks.' 'Under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji, we have diversified our supplies in the past few years and a large volume of our supplies do not come through the Strait of Hormuz now,' he said. About 2 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil out of India's total import of 5.5 million bpd transits through the narrow waterway. However, India has diversified sources — from Russia to the US and Brazil — which can readily fill any void. Russian oil is logistically detached from the Strait of Hormuz, flowing via the Suez Canal, Cape of Good Hope, or Pacific Ocean. Even the US, West African, and Latin American flows — though costlier — are increasingly viable backup options. "Nice thought": BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain on PM Modi's call for "immediate de-escalation"

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi tele-conversation with President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian in which he called for 'immediate de-escalation', BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said that it is a 'nice thought' and wished for peace across the globe. Speaking with ANI, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said, 'This is a nice thought (PM Modi's message to Iran President). Let's wish for peace across the globe, including in Iran. There is no way out of war. We are the country of Buddha, and we always give this message.' PM Modi spoke with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing deep concern at the recent escalations and called for 'immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy' after the US bombed Iran's nuclear facilities. In a post on X, PM Modi said, 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations,' PM Modi stated. He emphasised the need for a peaceful resolution and added, 'Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.' US, on early Sunday, carried out 'massive precision' strikes on Iran's three nuclear sites -Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow- and warned of further retaliation if peace is not achieved. Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that an emergency meeting would take place on Monday in light of the developments taking place in West Asia. The IAEA confirmed that there has been no reported increase in off-site radiation levels following the recent strikes on three key nuclear sites in Iran, including the underground enrichment facility at Fordow. 'Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran -- including Fordow -- the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time. IAEA will provide further assessments on the situation in Iran as more information becomes available,' the agency said in a statement. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear program. A statement issued by Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) confirmed that early on Sunday morning, Iran's nuclear sites were 'subjected to savage aggression--an act in violation of international laws, particularly the NPT.' 'This action, which violates international regulations, unfortunately took place under the indifference--and even complicity--of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),' it said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US military action under the leadership of Trump, stating that Trump's bold decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities will change history. Meanwhile, India continues its evacuation efforts for Indian nationals in Iran, with multiple flights planned to bring back Indians from the conflict-hit region. (ANI)

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami participates in Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh's 70th foundation day

Haridwar (Uttarakhand) [India], June 22 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the closing ceremony of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh's 70th foundation day on Sunday. The closing ceremony of 'Swarnim 70 Years' was organised by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh at the Rishikul Ayurvedic College Auditorium. On attending the Youth Workers Conference, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, 'Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh has not limited itself to just protecting the interests of labourers, but has also transformed the labour force into a pillar of nation-building. By integrating cultural consciousness, moral values, and social responsibility, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh has paved the way for turning 'Shram Yogis' into 'Rashtra Yogis.' CM Dhami announced the establishment of the Madan Mohan Malviya State Research Institute at the historic Rishikul premises in Haridwar. The institute aims to promote tourism, spirituality, education, Ayurveda, astrology, and meditation. The proposed multidisciplinary centre will offer studies in yoga, meditation, and spiritual sciences, with an eye on boosting spiritual tourism in the region. Speaking at a programme, CM Dhami said that the institute would serve as a significant hub within Rishikul, an institution of great significance, and help connect people to India's ancient knowledge systems. Marking the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh's 70th foundation day on July 23, the Chief Minister lauded the organisation's contribution to nation-building through its steadfast commitment to the Swadeshi ideology and worker welfare. He recalled the BMS's difficult early years, saying it had emerged as a powerful force by standing firmly for Indian culture and workers' rights. He noted that after Independence, despite the country's limited resources, Indian workers played a pivotal role in building the nation. 'Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government is working on the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and has launched several schemes focused on the welfare of workers,' he said. Highlighting welfare initiatives, CM Dhami said crores of workers have been registered on the government's labour portal, and facilities like ESI, EPFO, and insurance are now being provided. He also mentioned that 75 meritorious children of workers are receiving free technical education, lodging, and meals at the Rudrapur Technical Institute. 'Workers are not just the engines of labour but also architects of the nation,' the Chief Minister said, underlining the critical role of youth in India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He pointed out that with 65 per cent of the population below 35 years of age, India stands as the world's youngest country, and programmes like Skill India align youth with employment and self-reliance. Emphasising the Centre's commitment to cultural heritage and worker welfare, Dhami said major reforms have been undertaken, including simplifying 29 complex labour laws into four comprehensive labour codes. Through the e-Shram portal, crores of unorganised sector workers have been formally brought into the system. 'Under the Shramyogi Maandhan Yojana, unorganised sector workers are being provided a pension of Rs 1,000. Our government is ensuring that no worker is neglected or left out of the mainstream of development,' Dhami said. He added that the state government is committed to executing schemes such as housing, health insurance, social security cards, and various initiatives under the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
