Clayface DCU Movie Enlists The Gentlemen Star For Lead Role
DC Studios has finally unveiled the first major cast member for its upcoming Clayface DC Universe movie. Production is expected to begin later this year at Warner Bros.' Leavesden studio in the UK, just in time for its September 11, 2026 theatrical release. Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries has officially landed the leading role of Clayface in DC Studios' upcoming live-action adaptation of the fan-favorite DC villain. According to the report, he won the role against a lineup of rising British actors, including Jack O'Connell, Tom Blyth, Leo Woodall, and George MacKay. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn also shared a statement regarding Harries' casting, revealing that they were 'blown away' by the actor's audition. The project will be part of the DC Universe's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters saga. Harries is best known for his supporting roles in movies like 2019's The Gentlemen and 2023's Kandahar. He also appeared in British shows such as Suspicion, The Split, and Doctor Who. The Clayface movie will be directed by Speak No Evil director James Watkins from a screenplay written by Mike Flanagan. It is produced by Gunn, Peter Safran, Matt Reeves, and Lynn Harris, with Chantal Nong serving as an executive producer. The titular character is a fan-favorite Batman villain who has shapeshifting abilities, first created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane for DC Comics. The adaptation will reportedly center around 'a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant.' James Gunn confirms Superman runtime; dismisses rumours of external edits
Washington [US], June 5 (ANI): With the premiere of 'Superman' just around the corner, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has addressed lingering questions surrounding the film's runtime and rumours about studio interference. The eagerly awaited movie, set to launch on July 11, is one of the cornerstones of Gunn's new DC Universe (DCU) and marks the beginning of 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters'. In a direct response to fan inquiries on the social media platform Threads, Gunn confirmed that the film's runtime, including credits and post-credit scenes, will be 2 hours and 9 minutes. The announcement came after a user asked if the 2-hour, 9-minute duration was accurate. Gunn clarified, "Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes." The director also took the opportunity to address a circulating rumour that Warner Bros. had forced him to shorten the film's runtime. Gunn categorically denied the claim and said, "Zero truth to that." He further emphasised that as a DC Studios film, the studio had no such influence over the project. "And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to. It's a DC Studios film," Gunn remarked, as quoted by Deadline. This restates any speculation that Warner Bros. played a role in trimming the movie. The upcoming 'Superman' film, written, directed, and co-produced by Gunn, will explore the journey of Clark Kent, portrayed by David Corenswet, as he grapples with his Kryptonian heritage and his life in Smallville with his adoptive family. The film represents a pivotal moment in the relaunch of the DC Universe under Gunn's leadership and will be the first film of the new DCU Chapter One. 'Superman' boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Alongside David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan will star as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult will take on the iconic role of Lex Luthor. The film will also feature performances from Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, as per Deadline. Isabela Merced rounds out the cast as Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl. The film will also see several characters crossing over from the established DC Universe, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica (The Engineer), and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, better known to fans as 'Supergirl'. With a diverse cast, Gunn's 'Superman' is set to be an exciting new chapter for the DC franchise. As the first film in the DC Universe's 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters', 'Superman' is more than just a retelling of the 'Man of Steel's origin story. It promises to explore Clark Kent's internal conflict as he navigates the complexities of his dual identity, bridging the gap between his Kryptonian roots and his Earth-bound family and friends in Smallville. New SUPERMAN Image Features the Man of Steel and Krypto in the Fortress of Solitude — GeekTyrant
Here's a new photo from James Gunn's Superman , and it features the Man of Steel, Krypto, and and one of his robot servants in the Fortress of Solitude. There was a recent screening of the film at Warner Bros., and according to studio heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, Gunn has delivered a great film. De Luca previously shared: "We've seen an early cut of Superman, and I don't want to bury the lede, there's a lot of marketing about to roll out ahead of its release, but he really understood the assignment." De Luca went on to say: "His heart's in the right place, his aim is true, and we're really excited about their new version of DC." The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult stepping into the shoes of Lex Luthor. It will be the first official film in the new DC Universe timeline, kicking off Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, a rollout that will eventually include five films and five shows, among them Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold , Clayface , Swamp Thing , and more. Gunn's take on Superman is meant to be a reset with heart, purpose, and, apparently, a strong grasp on what the character and the fans deserve. And with marketing soon to ramp up, it's safe to say the Man of Steel is about to soar back into the spotlight. Ready or not, the new DCU starts here.
