James Gunn Confirms Three 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Actors Appear in 'Superman'

So it should come as little surprise that at least three "Guardians of the Galaxy" actors make cameos in the upcoming "Superman". DISNEY Fans will remember Pom Klementieff plays the antennae-wielding empath Mantis who first appears in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and is ultimately revealed to be Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) half-sister. Michael Rooker plays the Ravager Yondu in the first two films, while Bradley Cooper has been the voice of Rocket Raccoon in all of his "Guardians" and "Avengers" appearances. In case you're confused about what robots Gunn is referring to: the three "Guardians" actors, along with Alan Tudyk, are voicing the Kryptonian robots who stand guard over Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Asked about "Guardians" actors Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana, Gunn said he was "keeping them in the wings." Technically, we already knew about one "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor appearing in "Superman". Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in the DC blockbuster, appears in both the first and third "Guardians" features. He would have appeared in the second, but his cameo was sadly cut. We already know Fillion's time as Guy Gardner will be longer than anything he did in the "Guardians" franchise. Along with "Superman", he's been confirmed to play Gardner in Season 2 of "Peacemaker" and Season 1 of "Lanterns". The fact that Klementieff, Cooper, and Rooker add their voices to "Superman" doesn't cut them out of future DC Studios appearances, either. In fact, we already know Rooker will appear again. Along with playing Savant in 2021's "The Suicide Squad", Rooker will play the eagle hunter Red St. Wild in the upcoming Season 2 of "Peacemaker". "Superman" releases in theaters on July 11. James Gunn Says His ‘Favorite' DCU Project Is a New TV Show, Talks Peacemaker‘s Importance to Phase 1
James Gunn's 'favorite thing' about the new DCU that will truly take flight when Superman flies into theaters next month is actually a TV show that 'hopefully will be made soon.' In a wide-ranging Q&A about his and fellow DC Studios CEO Peter Safran's plans for the new DCU, Gunn shared an update on a few TV projects, saying that (as of May 22), 'I'm about to wrap Peacemaker [Season 2, premiering Aug. 21]… We're going to see early episodes of that soon,' while 'Lanterns (starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart) is halfway through filming. Will Robert Pattinson's Batman Join The DC Universe? James Gunn Has The Answer
Last Updated: James Gunn mentioned that there is a small chance that Robert Pattinson's Batman could join the bigger DC world someday. James Gunn has confirmed that the next Batman movie with Robert Pattinson is still happening, despite rumours of its cancellation. He shared that director Matt Reeves is busy writing the script for the sequel. This Batman story is separate from the main DC Universe (DCU). Gunn added that there is a small chance this version of the Caped Crusader could join the bigger DC world someday. At the same time, DC Studios is working on another Batman film called The Brave and the Bold, which will be part of Gunn's DC Universe. The filmmaker is working closely with the writer to make sure this new Batman has a strong role, instead of being silly. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Gunn said, 'I would never say zero, because you just never know. But it's not likely. It's not likely at all. I'll also say Batman Part II is not cancelled. That's the other thing I hear all the time — that Batman Part II is cancelled. It's not cancelled. We don't have a script. Matt's slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he's doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man." 'Batman's my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it's not, I'm not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he's incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So, outside of the stuff that I'm doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts," James Gunn explained. Confirming that The Batman script is still called The Brave and the Bold, Gunn said that the movie won't be made just because he's a popular character. The filmmaker explained that there has to be a proper reason for Batman to exist in the DC Universe. Superman director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn revealed how the honest opinions of fans and movie buffs aren't always overlooked. It was after several clips and trailers of the highly anticipated movie, Superman, were released that social media users pointed towards a specific moment in one of the clips. It featured a flying David Corenswet, decked up in his on-screen Superman character's costume, which caught many eyes. In a recent interview, James Gunn was asked about the moment in the Superman clip featuring David Corenswet's flight, which, according to many, was no less than a 'CG superimposed thing." To this, the Superman director admitted the clip 'kind of got by" him. Contrary to many other creatives like him in the field, Gunn explained that he was somewhat aware of the fan reactions to his works. Further, Gunn, who is known to shoot extra footage for promotional content of the upcoming movie's release, responded, 'No, I don't think it was so much. It was a TV commercial, and it wasn't a finished visual effects shot." 'So the part of him flying, it was a photograph of his face and him flying," Gunn described the creative aspect shot being used in the clip, adding, 'It was a photograph of a drone flying in front of an actual background. So all the pieces were real, but it was incorporated in kind of a funky way." Although he highlighted the techniques being applied to the shot, Gunn was personally not much impressed with the same, 'I didn't love the shot, so it's not even the shot that's in the movie," he clarified. Further, opening up about his cinematic visions, he disclosed, 'Sometimes I'm pretty strict about when I'm going through a trailer and looking at each of the shots, but sometimes, the commercials, I forget to look at this closely. So that one kind of got by me." Based on the DC Studios co-CEO's statements, it seems that the clip featuring David Corenswet's flight is reportedly a part of the extra content being shot for the trailers and others. James Gunn opens up about his favourite DC project which has "not been announced at all"
DC Studios co-CEO has many projects in the pipeline, with his 'Superman' releasing July 11, season 2 of 'Peacemaker' nearly wrapped for an August premiere, and the 'Lanterns' HBO series halfway through filming, reported Variety. One project in particular, he kept very quiet because he didn't want anyone to steal the idea, Gunn said, "My favourite thing has not been announced at was one thing that I knew about from the very beginning, that when I pitched to David Zaslav what the DCU would be, I pitched to him, but we did not announce in that first meeting because I felt like it was too easy to rip off by another company. And so that's one of the main things. " Gunn said he'll "probably" direct one of his new mystery projects. "Well, I always leave saying I'm going to direct something till I'm actually done with the screenplay, and then I say, 'Yeah, I want to do this.' But it's probably what I will direct. Yeah, probably, to be totally realistic. Yes, probably," he said, reported Variety. The ace director shared that when a well-known actor pitched him a project, he told him he was looking for a "masterpiece." "I told it to one person who came in and pitched something that was an Elseworlds tale," he said. "It was a very, very, very famous movie actor. I said, 'It depends on how the screenplay comes it's a masterpiece, I'll make it, but it has to be a masterpiece.' And he is like, 'I don't know if it's a masterpiece.' He got all funny. He's still working on it, though. He is still trying to do it, so we'll see. Masterpiece might be pushing it, but it's got to be really great. "Then there's another TV show that's my favourite thing in all of this, that is hopefully getting made soon," he said. "It's just my favourite thing. And then there's the s--! I don't know what I'm allowed to say or not say, but there are a couple of other movies that are being written, one of which is in pretty good shape, another which is kind of closer to the start, but we feel positive about. And then there's a thing I'm writing, which I think it's okay. ... So what will be the next thing after 'Clayface' is not 100 per cent certain, but it's pretty certain," reported Variety.
