
Doctor issues alert to anyone who wears fake eyelashes
People were warned about the permanent damage that these glues can cause to the body
Eyelashes primarily protect the eyes from debris, dust, and other airborne particles. They act as a barrier, preventing irritants from reaching the sensitive eye surface.
But, in the name of beauty, people have resorted to enhancing their natural lashes, which could cause long-term damage. While fake eyelashes can enhance appearance, prolonged and improper use can lead to various health issues.
Dr Saurabh Sethi, a Harvard-trained medic, said: "Fake eyelashes are becoming increasingly popular, but the adhesive glue often contains formaldehyde, which can cause allergic reactions, thinning and permanent loss of your natural eyelashes.
"In rare cases, it can even lead to blindness. To minimise these risks, either avoid fake eyelashes or consider uing formaldehyde-free adhesives."
In the study that Dr Sethi shared during his video, experts tested 37 types of glue for formaldehyde, which is a recognised cancer-causing chemical. Scientists found that most professional eyelash glues and some consumer products released formaldehyde when evaluated under a chemical test.
It concluded that: "Patients and clinicians should be aware that both consumer and professional eyelash glues can be sources of formaldehyde." When shopping, people who wish to wear these lashes can look out for glue that is labelled as formaldehyde-free.
Dr Sethi uses his platform to share a range of medical information, such as the benefits of drinking a 20p fruit-infused water for one month for younger-looking skin. He also recently shared an Instagram post about the best kind of seeds to add to your diet for better digestion.
What else can I do to improve my eyelashes?
One way to help eyelashes grow longer and thicker naturally is to increase the amount of biotin in your diet. Biotin, a B vitamin, plays a role in keratin production, which is essential for healthy hair and - by extension - eyelashes.
People can take supplements to achieve this but biotin can also be found naturally in a variety of foods. Excellent sources include organ meats like liver as well as egg yolks, nuts (almonds, peanuts, walnuts), seeds, legumes (beans, lentils), whole grains, and certain vegetables like sweet potatoes, spinach, and mushrooms.
While it won't magically make eyelashes grow longer than their natural potential, biotin can help strengthen existing lashes. This vitamin can prevent breakage, potentially leading to a fuller appearance.
People also claim that applying castor oil on eyelashes will help due to its potential moisturising and conditioning properties, but there's limited scientific evidence to support claims of significant lash growth. Most benefits are provided from individual results who claim the oil makes lashes appear thicker and fuller.

Lizzo shared new details about her recent weight loss journey and got real about weight-loss drugs in a new appearance on the 'Just Trish' podcast, hosted by internet personality Trisha Paytas. When Paytas asked the 37-year-old pop star if she's ever experimented with weight-loss drugs, Lizzo replied: 'I've tried everything. It's just the science for me: calories in, versus calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food. That's it. It makes you feel full. So if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same.' Lizzo previously addressed rumors that she used Ozempic to lose weight in an Instagram post in September 2024, explaining that she'd been focusing on 'weight training and calorie deficit.' In the podcast episode, the 'Truth Hurts' singer went on to reveal that she really started to lose weight once she scaled back on her vegan lifestyle. 'When I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats,' she recalled. 'I was eating a lot of bread. I was eating a lot of rice. And I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really, I was consuming like 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day.' 'We live in a society that makes super calorically dense food and they hide it,' she continued. 'So you're eating something that's small and you think, 'Oh yeah this is a healthy little protein bar.' It'll be like 300 calories and filled with all this fake sugar and weird s--- that f---- you up on the inside that you're not even aware of. Then you'd still be hungry.' Protein bars and fake meats are two foods often considered health foods but can actually be unhealthy, dietitian Collin Popp, Ph.D., previously told Lizzo added that eating more 'whole foods' and meats, such as beef, chicken and fish, was a game changer for her health because she was no longer eating 'a lot of like fake things ... that wasn't actually filling me up.' While Lizzo has found success with this particular approach, she emphasized that there's no one-size-fits-all weight-loss method. 'I don't like to tell people too much about releasing weight, like what I did, because I don't want people to do what I did and it doesn't work for them,' she said. 'Everybody's body is different. So I don't know if GLP-1 might be the only thing that works for you because I don't know what your blood work is like. I don't know how your body breaks down food (and) sugar. I don't know. But I know for me I just had to start eating meat again.' While appearing on the 'Just Trish' podcast, the star also explained that she was motivated to lose weight after experiencing back pain. 'My back was in such a bad place where I couldn't stand for more than like 15 minutes at a time. I had to sit down and do figure 4s and stretch my back out during dance rehearsal for tour,' she said. She'd also have to stretch her back while changing outfits between songs and do a cold plunge 'immediately' after each show since her back was 'radiating so much pain.' The singer noted that the discomfort stemmed from compressed discs in her back. 'The only way to really alleviate that is surgery or releasing a little bit of weight. So I was like, I want to be Tina Turner. I want to be doing stadium shows when I'm 70. If my back is on this track right now, there's no way I'm going to be able to do that without serious surgery. So that was my decision,' she said.

The 26-year-old influencer, whose brother is former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, jetted off to Abu Dhabi this week, but things took a turn as she felt 'really bad stomach pains' on the plane. She added: 'So it needed surgery straight away. So last night I had surgery to remove my appendix, and it all went well.' Other symptoms include feeling or being sick, loss of appetite, high temperature, constipation or diarrhoea, urinating more than usual. Busy mum-of-three ditches regular diets to lose four stone
Makeda, from London, suffered from joint and back pain but turned to a health app to change her lifestyle Losing weight is difficult, and it's especially so when little help is available. It gets even harder when there are so many different bits of advice floating around, from Atkins to intermittent fasting - finding the right one that works is like swimming in a sea of misinformation and fake Instagram accounts. However, one London mum-of-three managed to shed four stone with the help of an app, Simple. Makeda says she was at her heaviest - 18.5 stone, or 117.5kg - after the birth of her twins, where she already was mum to a daughter, who was under five at the time. Despite having one of the busiest lifestyles possible, it was her children that motivated her to lose weight - bringing her down to an incredible 14 stone (88kg). Makeda said: "I had got up to about 18.5 stone. I am very happy to be a mum, but I just really felt the pressure. I had gained a lot of weight. It's the heaviest I'd ever been, and I was just always in a lot of pain. I had a lot of joint pain and back pain, and I just felt like I just couldn't keep up. "And one of the goals for me was, yes, I wanted to lose the weight and I wanted to feel good in my body, but I also wanted to feel strong in my body. I wanted to know that if one of the twins needed picking up, I could carry both of them at the same time or push the double buggy and carry my other daughter." Before Makeda found Simple - a health app that helps people track their nutrition and aids in intermittent fasting - she tried a multitude of other diets without success. She continued: "I really was just struggling. Struggling to form any form of habit, and I tried all the diets, every diet I tried it, and I would do really well for maybe the first week, two weeks, maybe even a month, but I just realised it wasn't bespoke to me and my lifestyle. "It was kind of like they were trying to, these diets were trying to fit me into a particular category, and it just didn't work. I just couldn't be consistent with it." Makeda added: "What makes me really happy now is I go out, take walks, I hike, I go on adventures with my daughters, and I have enough strength and stamina and resilience to do that." There's a wealth of other apps available that aid users in shedding pounds, much like Simple. For instance, Lifesum is free to download and enables users to monitor their meals, displaying calorie and macro information, with advice on what to consume and even an intermittent fasting tracker. In the same vein, Noom is a weight loss app that centres on healthy lifestyle alterations and behavioural psychology, offering personalised plans and support for its users. Meanwhile, Simple has a 4.3 from 30,217 reviews on Trustpilot. One happy user wrote: "Easy to use, not about calories about healthy eating and no guilt." Another added: "I initially joined Simple for the wall Pilates programme but have really enjoyed the food nutrition guidance and the fasting advice.. I have lost weight, I'm eating healthier and am enjoying the workouts!" A third wrote: "Without a doubt, AI has been a great experience. I never would have believed that a computer-generated person would be of so much help! But here we are in a new world of possibilities. This might be the best money I've ever spent. I thank you." However, some users reported issues, with one person saying: "So far I'm losing weight by being accountable and intentional about my food choices. I'm not very good with technology, so navigating the Simple program is challenging. I'll get better going forward."
