'I've kept Diana's secrets for years - her words after divorce were devastating'
Princess Diana's former personal trainer, who worked with the royal for the last six years of her life, has opened up about their relationship - and why she used to beg the Princess not to tell her secrets
Diana's former personal trainer used to plead with her not to share her secrets - for a heartbreaking reason.
Jenni Rivett, 65, worked with Princess Diana during what was likely the most tumultuous period of the royal's life, as her marriage publicly broke down.
Diana and King Charles - then Prince of Wales - were engulfed in a PR battle often dubbed the 'War of the Waleses' as they tried to get their side of things across to the public during their acrimonious separation.
The personal trainer was a first-hand witness to Diana's life during this difficult period, as she worked with her for six years between 1991 and 1997 - right up until the royal's untimely and tragic death, with the pair booked in to continue their workout sessions after Diana was due to return.
Diana died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997 while holidaying with her then boyfriend Dodi Fayed. Her driver was drunk and crashed the vehicle while trying to get away from paparazzi who were chasing the car. All but one passenger died in the accident.
Jenni and Diana were due to have some training sessions just days later - but they never came. The South African trainer received the heartbreaking news that her long-time client had died through a pal - and it's taken her nearly three decades to feel like she can discuss Diana and the wonderful memories they shared.
The pair shared a close relationship, Jenni told the Mail Online, but on occasion, she would plead with Diana not to tell her private details of her life, for a seriously devastating reason.
"Sometimes Diana would tell me things so personal I would ask her: 'Please don't say any more because if it ends up in the papers tomorrow, you will think it was me.'
"I would give her the very best advice I could, yet I'd pinch myself – here I am, consultant to the Royal Family! But saying that, I knew my place. I never brought up subjects myself, I never overstepped the line, and I think she appreciated that," Jenni said.
She also revealed that Diana never wanted to end up on the path she ended up walking and that all that had really mattered to the Princess was her husband and sons - Prince William and Prince Harry, who were "everything to her".
"Diana loved her boys; they were everything to her. She would have been devastated at what is going on between them today," the personal trainer added.
Jenni first got the call that the most famous woman in the world wanted to work through her from Diana's butler, Paul Burrell, and she admitted that she was more than a bit intimidated when she heard the news.
Working three hours a week with Diana to get her fitness to the best it could be, she watched the Princess transform through her heartbreak, and step into a new, confident chapter.

Channel 5 quietly axe popular show after just one series – despite being branded the new Wife Swap
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CHANNEL 5 have quietly axed one of their reality TV shows after just one series. The programme was launched to much fanfare and was tipped to be the modern-day equivalent of iconic hit Wife Swap but it has been revealed that it won't be back for a second series. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 3 Channel 5's Wife on Strike has been axed after just one series Credit: Channel 5 3 Wife on Strike featured plenty of fed-up wives quitting Credit: Channel 5 Wife On Strike was first launched in November 2023 but as the series continued, ratings for the show began to dip and it soon fell below one million viewers. Bosses decided to pull the series after just two episodes and instead re-launched the remaining episodes last July as Mums On Strike with a slightly re-tooled edit and premise. However, insiders have now confirmed to the Mail Online that the show has been shelved despite the revamp. A source told the publication: "Wife On Strike was reminiscent of the Wife Swap days when millions of nosey viewers would tune in for their reality fix. "But it just failed to catch on with the audience and was underperforming in the highly competitive prime time slot where original dramas could easily pull in double the numbers. "While the rest of the series eventually aired under a new name, a decision was made to quietly rest the show with no further episodes planned." The Sun has reached out to Channel 5 for comment. In the programme, it saw the wives of the household move out of the home and give up all household chores and jobs. They left the family home leaving the rest of their family to pick up the pieces and undertake all the jobs normally left to them. Wife On Strike bore striking similarities to popular Channel 4 show Wife Swap. Axed Channel 5 show Mum On Strike returns to air in shock U-turn The programme which featured two totally different wives swapping households to see how others approached family life was first launched in 2003 to huge appeal. It produced many iconic moments and continued to run until 2009 when the format was axed. It aired a total of eleven series across its six years on air.

Jess says she was 'naive' when she won the ITV2 show NO NOOKIE Love Island winner Jess Hayes reveals why she's banned sex – and hits out at ex who 'targeted her' for £25k Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island winner Jess Hayes has lifted the lid on why she has decided to ban sex from her life. Jess, 32, won the first series of Love Island but, a decade on, is now proud to be celibate. Speaking to Mail Online, Jess believes sex is a "pointless activity" if a person is not in a loving relationship. And despite giving the impression on Love Island that she was "sex-obsessed", Jess said this couldn't be further from the truth. "I'm just not interested unless I really connect with a guy," she explained to the publication. Jess added: "I'm not having any, and I don't miss it. I don't want it. It could be years before I have it again, who knows. "I'm not into one-night stands and, believe it or not, I never have been." Jess won the first ever series of Love Island alongside Max Morley in 2015. She worked in a bank at the time and chose to share the £50,000 prize money with Max. The couple appeared smitten and had quickly won over the hearts of the nation. But just six weeks after their triumph, the winners dramatically split when Max was caught spending the night with Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby. I won the first ever Love Island but the fall out from my instant fame was so brutal I've given up sex for good, says Jessica Hayes Looking back, Jess has now accused professional cricket player Max of deliberately "targeting" her. Max had entered the villa as a late bombshell and Jess believes it gave him time to clock how popular she was with viewers. Telling the Mail she is "annoyed" they split the money, Jess added: "So, I do feel he targeted me but, as I say, I was young and naive." Jess was just 22 when she won Love Island and afterwards she threw herself into a lifestyle of wild partying. But three years later, she "hit rock bottom". Speaking to The Sun On Sunday last month, Jess said: 'I remember feeling very lost and thinking, what now? "You go out a lot and party a lot and sometimes it can be to excess and that's not good for you. "You come out of a show and you're a celebrity and no one says, 'This might only last five minutes'. 'I didn't have good guidance or good management and that didn't help me take the right path. 'There were points where I thought, what the hell am I doing?" Jess is now a devoted mum of two children, five-year-old son Presley and daughter Zendaya Rose, one. The relationships with both of her kids' dads broke down and she is now a single mum. However, Jess said: 'I couldn't ask for more from my children's dads. 'They are in their lives and they are good with them." She added: 'I'm not materialistic at all now and I think that having children, your priorities change. 'And if my daughter tells me she wants to apply for Love Island in 20 years time I will tell her, 'No way — not unless I'm your manager'.' 5 Jess won Love Island alongside Max Morley Credit: ITV2 5 She has accused Max of targeting her on the show Credit: ITV
