Man arrested over alleged 'gangland' shooting in bar in Spain named
The 44-year-old man arrested has been named after Spanish authorities issued an international arrest warrant following the alleged killings of Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr.
A man arrested after two senior figures from a Scottish organised crime group were murdered in a Spanish bar has been named.
Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, were shot dead at Monaghan's Bar in Fuengirola in the Costa Del Sol on May 31.
Michael Terrence Riley, 44, from Merseyside, was arrested in England on Friday evening in connection with the alleged shootings in the Costa del Sol on May 31, the Liverpool Echo reports.
He is due to appear in court next week after an appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning, Saturday June 14. Riley faces extradition to Spain after an international arrest warrant was issued by Spanish authorities.
Spanish police want to question Riley about the double killing at the Irish bar in Malaga. Monaghan, 43, and Lyons Jnr, 46, died after a masked gunman opened fire at around 11pm on May 31.
Following the Spain shooting, Police Scotland issued a statement saying there was no intelligence to suggest the deaths were linked with a series of criminal acts by rival groups in Scotland.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said today: "We can confirm yesterday evening, Friday 13 June, a man was arrested in connection with two fatal shootings in Spain on 31 May.
"The 44-year-old man from Merseyside appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning, Saturday 14 June, for the commencement of extradition proceedings to Spain. He has been remanded into custody to appear in court at a later date."
Riley was detained on an international arrest warrant, which is a request issued by a judicial authority in one country to another to help locate someone for extradition. Any extradition would have to be approved by a UK court.
Shocking footage captured the chilling moments after the incident as a passerby desperately tried to save fatally shot gangster Eddie Lyons.
A witness recorded the footage, which was seen by the Record, after hearing the gunshots outside the Monaghan's pub in Fuengirola in the Costa Del Sol.
It shows them arriving at the boozer where one female Good Samaritan is attempting CPR on stricken Lyons outside.
The voice of a man crouching next to Lyons can be heard repeatedly saying 'help him' as the woman unsuccessfully tries to revive Eddie.
It is understood the shootings are not linked to Scotland's ongoing gangland war which has been raging on with incidents across the central belt since March.
Cops announced on Friday, June 13, that two more men have been arrested in connection with the gang violence in Edinburgh and Glasgow, bringing the total to 44.
Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Ferry said: 'Our continued activity and arrests show our commitment to targeting organised crime and bringing those responsible to justice.
'We continue to investigate and follow a number of positive lines of enquiry. The support and response from the public has been excellent, and I am grateful for the assistance given to us and that continued support from local communities is crucial as we progress our enquiries.
'If you know anything that could assist our ongoing investigation, please do the right thing and speak to us."

Yob Andrew Watt was jailed for eight months and banned from grounds for six-and-a-half years on Friday for launching the bottle at the Celtic goalkeeper in last month's Old Firm draw at Ibrox. It was just one instance of a growing element of disorder in Scottish grounds last season. Former Aberdeen defender Jack MacKenzie was hospitalised by a seat thrown by one of his own fans as Dundee United fans invaded the Tannadice pitch on the final weekend of the season. Now Beattie, the SPFL Company Secretary and Director of Operations, has joined SFA chief Ian Maxwell in vowing to crack down on the yobs. Strict liability and deducting clubs points for the behaviour of their fans is an option open to league chiefs but Beattie insists they DON'T want to go down that road yet. Instead he has called on a united front from all stakeholders - and for the courts to come down heavy on the perpetrators. Beattie said: 'Some the scenes at the end of the season were wholly unacceptable. The Jack Mackenzie incident was absolutely appalling. 'We believe in individual responsibility first and foremost. That person who threw the chair that hit Jack was identified by the club who passed his details to Police Scotland and he is going through the criminal justice system. We want him to get a lengthy banning order. 'A good example happens on Friday. The individual who threw the bottle at the Old Firm match was jailed for eight months and has received a six-and-a-half year football banning order. 'Thats's how the system should work. If you're going to throw something at a player who is at their work then you deserve to feel the full force of the law. 'I spoke this week at a round table with the cabinet secretary for justice Angela Constance and every stake holder there - us, the SFA, police, Crown Office, fans organisation, the PFA - agreed this issue can't be addressed by one individual organisation. It needs everyone working together.' Points deductions remains an option for league chiefs - but one they are keen to avoid. Speaking on BBC Radio Sportsound, Beattie said: 'A points deduction is a possibility under any SPFL complaint that is taken against a club. 'We don't like to run towards points deductions. We want football to be played out on the pitch and for competition integrity we want it to be determined on the pitch. 'That touches on strict liability. Our position on that for many years has been we believe in individual responsibility. 'That does not mean that clubs cannot be sanctioned for issues with their supporters. But they have got to do everything reasonable and practical to address it. 'We know how challenging it is for clubs. These are societal issues. We have seen it across society since covid. 'There's been a lot of talk recently about the rise in violent crime across Scotland. 'You have seen across Europe the issues off the back of the Champions League final which should give us all pause for thought. 'We don't thin it's right to then leave the clubs themselves and say 'if you don't deal with this' you are getting a points deduction. 'We don't think that's proportionate. We need them to do everything they can, work with us to demonstrate that and work as part of the wider criminal justice system so that football isn't left basically picking up the tab for what are really problematic behaviours across society at the minute.' The Tannadice pitch invasion was mirrored a day later at McDiarmid Park where Dundee fans flooded onto the pitch after escaping relegation. Beattie added: 'It's an uncomfortable one for clubs. They don't want to be seen not welcoming their support celebrating and achievement at the end of the season. But what about the opponents? If you're standing there watching a full length pitch invasion and you're the losing team you're going to be fearing for your safety. 'It only takes one idiot for there to be a real issue. There's no place for them. 'It's an area of concern for the game. We are concerned something might happen. We have seen issues down south where things have got really close to being a significant incident. All our clubs have to do everything they can to prevent it. 'If you are a safety officer in charge of that match you are faced with a decision, if they are coming on anyway you have to ensure the safety of everyone in the ground and that might mean opening some gates to let people come out.'

Footage shows three vans burst into fireball after attack outside Glasgow supermarket
Police and fire crews were called to Pollokshields shortly after midnight on Saturday. Shocking footage captured the moment three vans burst into flames in a firebomb attack outside a supermarket in Glasgow. The parked vehicles were targeted outside Strawberry Garden - a grocers and cash and carry - just after midnight on Saturday. The motors exploded into a fireball on Forth Street in the Pollokshields area, causing a huge plume of black smoke. Cops have launched probe into the deliberate blaze. a blaze probe into the incident described by one local as "deliberate and malicious". One video taken by an eyewitness shows the intensity of the inferno as the vehicles are engulfed. Huge flames can be seen bursting out of the vans as black smoke billows out from above. Three Scottish Fire and Rescue crews were scrambled to the scene at 12.08am with crews working for two hours to extinguish the fire. Police locked down the scene as shocked locals and shop workers began to gather near the cordon. One witness who was working at a nearby business said: "It was crazy there were police everywhere. Three vans were on fire outside Strawberry Garden. I couldn't get out to see my car for a while so I didn't know if it was on fire or not. "I had parked further down Forth Street earlier. Luckily it was far enough away from the blaze. "By the time I finished at 2am I was allowed to leave by police." Pictures taken at the scene today show how all three motors were left a burnt out shell. One motor was so badly torched that only the bottom half and wheels remained intact. Detectives returned to behind the cordon to assess the damage. A recovery vehicle was also at the scene ready to remove the charred remains from the scene. Police say they are treating the fire as suspicious. "The fires were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no injuries were reported. The incident is being treated as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.' A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "Around 12.08am Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to a report of three vehicles on fire on Forth Street, Glasgow. "We mobilised three appliances to the scene. There were no reports of injuries. "Crews left at 2.09am."

Police probing 'suspicious' vehicle fire at Glasgow cash and carry
Police are treating a fire which destroyed three vehicles outside a cash and carry in Glasgow as were called to the Strawberry Garden store on Forth Street in Pollokshields shortly after midnight on store's owners said it had not been damaged in the attack and was open as normal on was injured and a Police Scotland spokesman said inquiries into the incident were ongoing. Fire crews arrived to extinguish the flames but three vans were destroyed by the blaze.A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 12:05 on Saturday 21 June, police received a report of three vehicles on fire in the Forth Street area of Glasgow. "The fires were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no injuries were reported. "The incident is being treated as suspicious and inquiries are ongoing." A statement from Strawberry Garden said their vehicles were not targeted in the said "false rumours" had been spread online that the store had also been damaged, but added that was not on Facebook, the store's owners said: "Strawberry Garden Cash and Carry and all our vehicles are safe and untouched. We are open as normal and ready to welcome you."Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbours, whose vans were sadly set on fire."Thank you for your ongoing support.
