Southampton vs Arsenal: Prediction, kick-off time, TV, live stream, team news, h2h results, odds
Arsenal wrap up their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a game away at already-relegated Southampton this weekend.
After beating Newcastle last time out, the pressure has been lifted on the Gunners ahead of their trip to the south coast as Champions League football for next season has been secured.
Now, there is a scenario where Arsenal do not finish as runners-up to Liverpool. It is highly unlikely but a defeat to the Saints and Manchester City beating Fulham coupled with a nine-goal swing would result in a remarkable final day twist.
Southampton did hold Man City to a goalless draw in their last home game, gaining a crucial point that prevented them from becoming the joint-worst team in Premier League history.
That said, they will finish the campaign rock-bottom and have very little to play for except professional pride and a chance to claim a big scalp before exiting the top-flight.
Southampton vs Arsenal is scheduled for a 4pm BST kick-off on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
The match will take place at St Mary's Stadium.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will not be televised live.
Free highlights: The Sky Sports app and YouTube channel will show highlights shortly after the final whistle with Match of the Day broadcasting on BBC One at 10.30pm BST.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport's live blog, with expert analysis from Simon Collings at the ground.
Aaron Ramsdale is in line to face his former club for a second time this season. However, Saints trio Kyle Walker-Peters, Jan Bednarek and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are all doubtful.
William Saliba and Jurrien Timber have been added to a lengthy Arsenal injury list as their absence vs Southampton was confirmed by Mikel Arteta. Gabriel Magalhaes, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Jesus are sidelined too.
Riccardo Calafiori is in line to partner Jakub Kiwior in central defence, whilst Mikel Merino is available again after serving a one-match suspension last weekend.
Pressure is off Arsenal for a change so that could lead to a more relaxed performance. There is a reason Southampton are going down with one of the lowest points totals in Premier League history and this is a chance to grab some goals.
With David Raya in with a shout of sharing the Golden Glove award, he will be desperate to keep a clean sheet against a Saints side that hasn't scored in their last three outings.
Arsenal to win, 3-0
Southampton are somewhat of Arsenal's bogey team, especially at St Mary's as they are unbeaten in three of the last four meetings on home soil.
In fact, the Gunners' win in the reverse fixture earlier in the season was their first in three attempts.
Southampton wins: 23
Arsenal wins: 47
Draws: 27
Southampton to win: 8/1
Arsenal to win: 1/4
Draw: 7/2

Liverpool want to replace Federico Chiesa with Malick Fofana
Federico Chiesa (27) was used sparingly by Liverpool last season. Following his summer move, the Italian made just six Premier League appearances, starting just once, in the penultimate game of the season, with the title already wrapped up. Liverpool are therefore looking to offload Chiesa, who, for now, is not attracting much interest. However, Sacha Tavolieri understands that the Merseyside club are already lining up his replacement. Olympique Lyonnais' Malick Fofana (20) is the priority target. The Belgium international recently changed agents and will be allowed to leave OL for a fee of €50m this summer. Advertisement However, whilst a €50m valuation has been set, Lyon are hoping that a bidding war may see the fee rise to around €70m. As reported by L'Équipe, Fofana is also a target for Premier League rivals Chelsea. Tavolieri understands that Liverpool currently lead Chelsea in the race to sign the winger, who last season made 17 goal contributions in 41 games. GFFN | Luke Entiwstle

'Wow' - Ait-Nouri impresses Guardiola on debut
Manchester City have been without a recognised left-back since the departure of Benjamin Mendy, but Pep Guardiola may have found the perfect solution. "Wow," said Guardiola. "He had to defend a back four, then make a back five. He played really, really good, not for the first time. Advertisement "It was his first game but he has played in the Premier League for many years." Playing at the incredible Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ait-Nouri showcased the class he possesses with driving runs up and down the left flank. He played the full game and highlighted why he will be such an asset with a total of 92 touches of the ball, including seven in the opposition box, second only to Erling Haaland. The Norway striker, who scored from the penalty spot and missed numerous other chances, will be relishing getting on the end of Ait-Nouri's whipped crosses. The 24-year-old could have scored in the first half when he cut inside and beat a couple of defenders, but lost his footing at the vital moment. Advertisement "He can help us play in that role outside but then had to play as a holding midfielder and go into the pockets," Guardiola added. "He moves really well into the spaces. "He is intelligent and clear to defend and take the ball. He is so clever in the final third, taking the right decisions to create more spaces. Really pleased for the game he played." Ait-Nouri helped ensure City progressed into the knockout stages and they will be aiming to seal top spot in their final group game against Juventus on Thursday.

Terron Armstead excited to be voice for NFL players dealing with similar injury situation in retirement
Terron Armstead retired from the NFL after 12 seasons with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, and he has not spared any details when explaining why now is the right time to step away from the game. It is the first time since he was 5 years old, a total of 28 years, that he will not be playing for a football team this fall. However, Armstead shared some grueling injury stories that led the offensive tackle to hang up his cleats. Why did the 33-year-old share his personal injury journey? Now on the outside looking in, he wants to be the voice for players going through similar situations in the NFL today. "Now that I'm done, I would like to start sharing more of my stories because there's players that are actively playing who are dealing with similar situations," he told Fox News Digital at Fanatics Fest on Friday. "So, I want to be a voice for them and allow the fans to know that they can't necessarily speak on their injury. Because you never want to have those built-in excuses before a game, like, 'I lost on this play because of my knee.' You know what I mean? Never want to have that." For NFL fans, it sometimes gets lost in the heat of competition and highlight-reel plays how much of a toll the 17-game-plus season can take on a player's body, especially a lineman like Armstead. Years of training and competing on the gridiron takes its toll, and Armstead said his ailment was a knee injury he constantly had to battle through since his third year in the league. "I didn't see a practice field at all, and not because I didn't want to or the Dolphins just wanted me to rest. It's like I literally couldn't walk," he said during an appearance on the "Nightcap Show." "After a game on Sunday, I wouldn't be able to walk on my own, under my own power, until Wednesday, Thursday. So, I was only able to play under the pain meds. I couldn't put any pressure on my knee, so it was like, I can't keep doing that to myself." So, no, Armstead is not going to be one of those retirees who will get the urge to get back on the field come Week 1. "I think I'm done, I'm at peace with it. I'm excited to be on this side to talk about the game, share my knowledge and experience. "After being in the game for so long, and playing football for so long since five years old, it's definitely bittersweet. It's my first year without it after 28 years, so I'll see what this life is going to be like without football. I'm so grateful and appreciative for it, but I'm excited for my future." While he may be off the sidelines, Armstead still wants to make an impact on the game he loves dearly, especially for those players who continue to put their bodies on the line each year to hunt for a Super Bowl title alongside their teammates.
