Late billionaire Tom Benson's granddaughter arrested for allegedly shoving cop in parking row
A heated confrontation over a parking violation in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, ended with the former heir to the New Orleans Saints empire in handcuffs. Police say Rita LeBlanc, 48, granddaughter of late Saints owner Tom Benson, allegedly shoved a city parking officer and grabbed their booting tool during the altercation, according to WCSC-TV. The incident on Monday unfolded near the corner of Meeting and Water Streets, where officers responded to reports of a parking enforcement officer being assaulted, according to Charleston police. Sgt. Chris Stinson told WCSC-TV that during the argument, LeBlanc briefly took hold of the officer's boot-locking device as they were attempting to attach it to a vehicle. LeBlanc was arrested at the scene and charged with hindering a city officer. She was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center and released the following day on a personal recognizance bond. A court date has been set for July 24. LeBlanc once held a prominent role within the Saints organization, serving as vice chairman from 2012 to 2014. She was widely regarded as the heir to the team's ownership before a falling out with her grandfather. In December 2014, Tom Benson removed her from her role, while also 'cutting off any future contact,' reported at the time. He later announced that his wife, Gayle Benson, would succeed him as owner. The family rift reportedly stemmed from an incident during a 2014 Saints game, in which LeBlanc allegedly grabbed Gayle Benson by the shoulders and shook her while they were in a private suite. The altercation led to a highly publicized legal battle, with LeBlanc, her brother Ryan, and their mother Renee filing a lawsuit seeking to have Tom Benson declared mentally incompetent, per The suit was ultimately unsuccessful. Tom Benson, who owned both the Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans, passed away in 2018. Gayle Benson remains the principal owner of both franchises.

Caolan Boyd-Munce opens up on St Mirren love affair after Wycombe switch
The Northern Irishman admits he'll never forget the affection shown to him by the black-and-white army. BY KYLE GUNN Caolan Boyd-Munce says he had 'goosebumps' the first time he heard the black-and-white army sing his name as he revealed his love for St Mirren. The Northern Irish midfielder who arrived at the SMiSA Stadium in March 2023 is very different to the man who departed Paisley at the end of the season – both on the pitch and off it. During his time at Greenhill Road, he became a fully-fledged international and, more importantly, a father to 10-month old son Roux. And Boyd-Munce, who has signed for Sky Bet League One side Wycombe Wanderers, still recalls how he was serenaded for the first time in front of his family. He told the Paisley Daily Express: 'It was Hibs away and I was taking a corner and, in the song, I heard my name for the first time and the goosebumps I got. The feeling that runs down in the back of your neck and the family hearing it was amazing. 'So, things like that will always stick with me and I've loved every part of it. I've loved playing in front of them and I'll never ever have a bad word or a bad memory. 'For me, it was more about football than me, with my son being born. So, it's always got that wee bit of an attachment to me now. This is a birthplace of my son. 'This is nearly his home. I think it's been more about things like that than just the football. But I've absolutely loved it. I genuinely can't say a bad word about all the people there.' Boyd-Munce played a major role in the last two seasons in helping Saints make the Premiership top six under boss Stephen Robinson. He believes that his fellow countryman leading the Buddies to these heights now means the club should be seen as more than just a stepping stone to better things. The 25-year-old continued: 'People cannot say it was lucky or a fluke, but they can use external factors to say, 'yeah, this is why they got it'. But three years in a row, I think people can now kind of look at St Mirren as more than a platform. 'Of course, players in their career at different stages will look at that and think, 'yes, I can gain this amount of experience or I can gain this from going to St Mirren'. 'And for the gaffer and his staff to do what they've done three years on the bounce is incredible.' Boyd-Munce also revealed that he had conversations to remain with the club – and certainly didn't part on bad terms with Saints. And he credits that to the way Robbo runs an open-door policy with the squad. He said: 'Because we were so close, it was never an awkward conversation to have. It was never a concern to have conversations like that. 'And that's not just me. It's not just me and the gaffer; all the players and all the staff are together. It is an open changing room. I think that's why it works so well. 'Even when I hadn't made my mind up, because I hadn't, I went in and said, 'just get past a certain stage in the season and we'll discuss it'. 'So, as soon as we got towards the end of top six, we then obviously had discussions about it and I just kind of was honest with them and told them that I'm thinking about looking at my options back down in England or abroad and seeing what's out there.'

The SPFL released the fixtures for next season this morning and the Buddies are off to the east end of Glasgow. St Mirren were today handed a daunting trip to champions Celtic on the opening day of the new Premiership season. After ending the 2024-25 campaign in Glasgow's east end, the Buddies will return to Celtic Park to begin their 2025-26 adventure on Sunday, August 3. There will be a sense of occasion as the Hoops unfurl the champions' flag before the match which is to be shown live on Sky Sports. Saints drew 1-1 when the sides last met as Jonah Ayunga's opener was cancelled out in injury time by James Forrest. The first home game of the season will be on Saturday, August 9, when Jens Berthel Askou's Motherwell visit the SMiSA Stadium. Stephen Robinson's men face three of last season's top six in the opening month of the new term. Russell Martin's Rangers arrive at Greenhill Road on the weekend of Saturday, August 23 with a trip to Hibernian the following weekend. No winter break is planned and, as it stands, there will also be no games in the Premiership on Boxing Day and January 2, 2026. There are five midweek league games planned pre-split at this stage with Saints hosting Hearts on both Wednesday, October 29 and Wednesday, February 4. A trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 3. Saints go to Ibrox to face Rangers on Tuesday, December 30 and visit Kilmarnock on Wednesday, February 11. The final pre-split fixture for Robbo will be a replica of the opening day as they travel to Celtic Park on Saturday, April 11. On the opening weekend, there will only be one 3pm game taking place on the Saturday due to TV coverage and European commitments, with Killie hosting Premiership new boys Livingston. Saints' clash with Celtic will be the fifth game played despite Brendan Rodgers' side being champions. Robbo's men are back in pre-season training and face League Two Dumbarton in a friendly next Saturday, June 28, before jetting to Murcia for a Spanish training camp. Meanwhile, former Buddies loan keeper Zach Hemming yesterday completed a move to Sky Bet League Two side Chesterfield from Middlesbrough.
