Lens' Hervé Koffi set for Angers move

RC Lens goalkeeper Hervé Koffi (28) is set for a move to SCO Angers, according to a report from Mohamed Toubache-Ter. Koffi failed to seize his chance to become Lens' No.1 following Brice Samba's departure for the club. The France international joined Stade Rennais in January, however, Koffi struggled to replace him in the weeks that followed, which saw Les Sang et Or dip into the market to sign Australian goalkeeper Mat Ryan (33). Advertisement There could be yet further change between the sticks for Lens this summer, but either way, it looks as though Koffi will not be at the club. As per Toubahce-Ter, the Burkina Faso international will join Angers on a season-long loan deal. Le Sco, who last season avoided the drop, will pay a part, but not all, of the player's wages. There is no buy option included in the deal. The move will naturally raise questions about the future of Yahia Fofana (24), who is likely to be coveted following a strong campaign last time around. Did you vote matter in Oregon's 2025 special election? Mandatory recounts say yes

More than 30 races from the May 20 special election are too close to call, triggering an automatic recount. 'I hear from a lot of people that they think their vote doesn't matter, and here we have the undeniable proof that it does," Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read stated in a news release. "These elections will have a major impact on Oregonians lives, from deciding how we manage our water to how we run schools and fight wildfires — and they'll be decided by just a few votes." In Lane County, the South Lane School District Position 7 was one of those too-close-to-call races. The two candidates are tree service business owner Bill Parsons and retired Weyerhaeuser millwright and current SLSD board member Jeff Gowing. Gowing was appointed to the vacant SLSD seat in 2024 and is a former mayor of Cottage Grove. According to Lane County's certified final election results, Gowing won over Parsons by just two votes out of 3,855. There were also three write-in votes. The recount for SLSD will begin on June 18. According to the Secretary of State's Office, automatic vote recounts in the state of Oregon are required when: There is a tie between candidates. The vote margin is very close. Specifically, when the difference between the apparent winning candidate and the next is 0.2% or less. All recounts in the state of Oregon must be hand-recounted by a counting board. A counting board consists of a minimum of two county electors, and the electors must be registered with different political parties. Many of the recounts have already begun. Here is a list of all the races that required a recount from the 2025 special election. Baker County West Eagle Valley Water Control District, at-large position. Gattuso convinced Italy can reach World Cup

Gennaro Gattuso (C) has been tasked with guiding Italy to the 2026 World Cup (Alberto PIZZOLI) Gennaro Gattuso said Thursday he is convinced Italy can qualify for the World Cup as he begins his reign as Azzurri coach following the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti. Italy are at risk of missing out on a third consecutive World Cup after a troubled start to their qualifying campaign which has left them nine points behind Group I leaders Norway and cost Spalletti his job. Advertisement Asked whether he had more hope or conviction that Italy could reach next year's finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico, Gattuso said: "conviction". "I believe that we have good players available to us. We have four or five who are among the top 10 in the world in their position," added Gattuso. "We have a good team, but I do mean team, I'm not thinking about individuals. I'm convinced that the team has quality and I'm convinced that we can achieve our goal." Gattuso has a tough job on his hands with only top spot in the group giving automatic qualification to the World Cup, even with Italy having played two fewer games than Norway. Advertisement As well as the significant points gap Italy have a goal difference which is 12 goals worse than Norway, who hammered Italy 3-0 earlier in June. That leaves Italy with the play-offs, from which they failed to reach the last two tournaments, as their only realistic shot at qualification. "We need to bring back the enthusiasm and not think negatively. My goal is to make sure that the players that come to (Italy's training centre) Coverciano do so with great enthusiasm, and to create a family," said Gattuso. "After formations, technique and tactics the priority is to recreate that mentality that in the past has made us stand out." Advertisement Gattuso, a World Cup winner in 2006, was not the Italian Football Federation's first choice to replace Spalletti. Claudio Ranieri eventually turned down an appeal to come out of retirement, for a second time, to save his country's footballing fortunes. But Italy icon Gianluigi Buffon, now head of the national team delegation, said he believes Gattuso is capable of defying those who doubt his capabilities after an up-and-down coaching career. Gattuso, 47, was recently sacked by Hadjuk Split but has also managed AC Milan and Napoli, winning the Italian Cup with the latter club five years ago. Advertisement "I had a long playing career and every time I faced once of Rino's teams with Juventus they gave us a hard time, you had the idea that his teams had a precise identity, and that there was a lot of work and thought behind them," said Buffon. "It's very simple, when you're on the pitch you can tell straight away if behind the other team there is a good coach or not. And I every time I faced his Milan or Napoli team I could tell that was the case." Gattuso will be in the dugout for the first time in September when Italy host Estonia in Bergamo before travelling to Hungary to take on Israel. td/pi

Electra Commences Early Works to Support Restart of North America's Only Cobalt Refinery

TORONTO, June 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Electra Battery Materials Corporation (NASDAQ: ELBM; TSX-V: ELBM) ('Electra' or the 'Company') announces the launch of an early works program at its cobalt refinery north of Toronto, reaffirming the Company's commitment to onshoring North America's critical minerals processing and building a resilient, domestic battery materials supply chain. The early works program encompasses targeted site-level activities designed to prepare for the restart of full-scale construction. The initiative reflects growing momentum around the project, supported by strategic funding from both the U.S. and Canadian governments. The work, budgeted at approximately C$750,000, is particularly focused on advancing the solvent extraction facility. 'The early works program represents a critical step in transitioning the refinery site back to construction mode,' said Mark Trevisiol, Vice President, Projects at Electra. 'By focusing on key infrastructure, particularly in the SX area, we are ensuring the site is ready for a seamless ramp-up as soon as full funding is in place.' Work scheduled over the summer will focus on advancing high-priority activities in the solvent extraction (SX) area, which is a key component of Electra's hydrometallurgical refining circuit. Crews will relocate and install SX processing equipment previously delivered to site, pour reinforced concrete bases for the SX tanks, and complete structural roofing work on the SX building. In parallel, tender preparation and engineering support activities will proceed to facilitate the transition to full construction. These works follow a C$200,000 investment earlier this year into the septic, power and lighting systems, as well as the recent delivery and placement of the site's prefabricated electrical house, all further enhancing construction readiness. 'This project reflects our disciplined approach to advancing the refinery project,' said Electra CFO, Marty Rendall. 'The early works program enables us to build critical infrastructure and maintain project momentum while we work to finalize the remaining elements of our funding package.' The early works initiative is partially supported by a US$20 million award from the U.S. Department of Defense under the Defense Production Act, announced in August 2024. This funding underscores the strategic role of Electra's refinery in strengthening domestic industrial capacity and securing North America's critical minerals supply chain. The project has also received support from Canada's Strategic Innovation Fund. 'Our early works program is a clear signal: Electra is not standing still,' said Trent Mell, CEO of Electra. 'The early works program lays the physical and operational groundwork to accelerate into full construction. We are confident in our project and its strategic importance. Preparing for the final leg of construction is a reaffirmation of our commitment to delivering North America's only battery-grade cobalt refinery.' Electra's refinery is the only project in North America designed to produce battery-grade cobalt sulfate at scale. By integrating advanced hydrometallurgical processing and pursuing low-carbon production pathways, Electra is redefining how critical minerals are refined, offering a cleaner, traceable alternative to overseas supply chains. Following a temporary pause in construction in 2023, Electra has continued to make strategic progress toward completing the remaining financing needed to bring the cobalt sulfate refinery into full commercial operation. With foundational funding already secured, including significant contributions from both the U.S. and Canadian governments, the Company is actively advancing complementary funding initiatives to support project completion. Backed by strong government endorsements and the refinery already significantly advanced, Electra expects it will be able to finalize the balance of the financing required to move the refinery into production. About Electra Battery Materials Electra is a leader in advancing North America's critical minerals supply chain for lithium-ion batteries. Currently focused on developing North America's only cobalt sulfate refinery, Electra is executing a phased strategy to onshore critical minerals refining and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. In addition to establishing the cobalt sulfate refinery, Electra's strategy includes nickel refining and battery recycling. Growth projects include integrating black mass recycling at its existing refining complex, evaluating opportunities for cobalt production in Bécancour, Quebec, and exploring nickel sulfate production potential in North America.
