Women urged to download Shakti App

Rajamahendravaram: An awareness programme on women's safety was conducted at Allu Ramalingaiah Medical College on Wednesday under the leadership of DSP (Women Police Station) KV Satyanarayana, who serves as the District In-charge Nodal Officer of the Shakti Team. The programme was organised following the instructions of District SP D Narasimha Kishore. During the session, DSP Satyanarayana educated the participants on preventive measures against sexual assaults targeting women and girls. He also provided insights into self-defence techniques that can be useful for women.
The DSP explained about the importance of understanding the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the benefits of using the Shakti App, a dedicated application designed for women's safety. He urged all women to download the Shakti App and explained that it allows them to seek immediate police assistance at any time in case of an emergency. Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna also addressed the gathering, adding further insights on safety measures.
Around 250 lady homeopathic medical students and faculty members attended the meeting.

2 held for sheltering Pahalgam attackers

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two men for allegedly harbouring the terrorists who killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam two months ago, the agency said on Sunday, marking the first set of arrests in connection with the terror attack. 'Parvaiz and Bashir had knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack. The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists who selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity,' the anti-terror agency said in a statement and added the two have been charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act's (UAPA) Section 19 (punishment for harbouring or concealing a terrorist). The agency did not disclose further information about the two men. HC directs CMC to stop manual drain cleaning

1 2 Cuttack: Orissa high court has taken sou motu cognisance of a media report highlighting hazardous manual drain cleaning by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) by allegedly engaging minor boys in clear violation of safety norms and child labour laws and directed the immediate halting of "such unsafe and unethical practices". The special bench for PILs concerning civic issues in Cuttack expressed serious concern over the "inhumane methodology" adopted by CMC. The bench of Justices S K Sahoo and V Narasingh said, "Needless to say, ensuring the health and safety of labourers is crucial for productive outcome. This involves implementing measures to prevent work-related injuries, diseases and hazards." "Manual drain cleaning often leads to hazardous conditions and can result in serious injuries or fatalities due to exposure to toxic fumes, sharp objects and even poisonous snakes," the bench added. The court directed that such manual and dangerous methods of drain cleaning must be discontinued immediately. It emphasised the need to shift to safer and technologically advanced cleaning mechanisms and underscored that no violation of the child labour law would be tolerated. Minors were also reported to be working along the banks to clear vegetation in what appears to be a violation of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. In its order dated June 19, the bench instructed CMC to prepare and submit a comprehensive action plan by July 31. The plan must outline strategies to streamline drain cleaning operations, prevent waterlogging, deploy suitable machinery and ensure proper training of workers. Gurgaon: An FIR was registered against three officials of IndiGo Airlines after a colleague accused them of subjecting him to caste-based harassment and humiliation at the company's corporate office in the city. The victim alleged that the harassment began immediately after he arrived in office when Dey demanded he leave his phone and bag outside in a "demeaning manner". "His instruction set the tone for the abuse that followed," he said in his complaint. The trainee pilot claimed that the three officials made casteist remarks during the 30-minute meeting from 3.30pm, which included statements like "you are not fit to fly an aircraft, go back and stitch slippers" and "you don't even have the worth to be a watchman here". He alleged that the harassment continued for days and was designed to pressure him into resigning. "The statements they made were not only humiliating but clearly aimed at degrading my identity and status as a Scheduled Caste person," the complaint read. The harassment allegedly extended beyond verbal abuse. It included "professional victimisation" through unjustified salary deductions, forced retraining sessions, revocation of travel privileges, and unwarranted warning letters. The FIR at DLF-1 police station was lodged under sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC/ST Act, which deal with intentional insults or intimidation meant to humiliate a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe member in public view. The case also included sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS. "We have begun collecting evidence and will soon record the statements of all parties involved," assistant sub-inspector Dalwinder Singh said.
