Knowledge of legal rights must for eliminating social inequalities, says Sathya Sai SP
The Sri Sathya Sai district police on Saturday held a special awareness drive at Bullasamudram village of Madakasira mandal to celebrate Civil Rights Day, highlighting the importance of constitutional rights and social equality. Superintendent of Police V. Ratna inaugurated the programme and addressed a gathering of students, villagers and police personnel. The SP said the Indian Constitution bestows upon every citizen the right to equality, freedom and protection from suppression and exploitation. She called for eliminating discrimination of all kinds to achieve true social justice. 'Every citizen must understand and exercise their legal rights,' the SP said. Ms. Ratna observed that during the past six months, awareness programmes connected to the importance of Civil Rights Day were organised across the district. She thanked officials, students, police and village elders for their cooperation in conducting the camps to educate the public. 'It's the responsibility of everyone to eliminate social inequalities, and this alone can create a society of true equality,' Mr. Ratna said. Deploring the still-prevalent practice of child marriage, the SP said this social aberration was a punishable offense. Ms. Ratna highlighted a plethora of government welfare schemes and the economic sustenance programmes of NGOs for the underprivileged in society, vulnerable to the scourge of child marriages. The SP called upon women, particularly those working and in colleges, to download the Shakti App on their mobiles, as this would protect them from any external attacks from the miscreants. Senior officials from the Women and Child Welfare, police, revenue and panchayat raj departments attended the event.

169 persons convicted in last 10 months for crimes against women and children: Andhra Pradesh director general of police Harish Kumar Gupta
Vijayawada: In the past 10 months, various courts in Andhra Pradesh convicted 169 individuals in serious crimes against women and children , including Pocso cases , rapes, dowry deaths, and murders, said Andhra Pradesh director general of police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta. Emphasising safety, the AP police set up a women and child safety wing led by IG Rajakumari and launched the Shakti App , which has been downloaded by over 1.52 crore users. The app's SOS feature helped register 3,193 FIRs. The state also deployed 164 Shakti Teams to monitor 900 crime-prone hotspots and conducted 12,119 awareness campaigns. Additionally, 254 eve-teasers were identified and are under surveillance. The DGP stressed the need for gender sensitivity education and stronger respect for women in society. In a strong message against crimes targeting women and children, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta revealed that courts across the state delivered stringent punishments to accused involved in Pocso cases, dowry deaths, murders of women, rapes, and gang rapes over the past 10 months. Emphasising that the safety of women and girls is a top priority, DGP Gupta highlighted the role of the specially constituted women and child safety wing. The app's SOS feature has already been used by 11.6 lakh users, resulting in 34,192 emergency alerts, and 3,193 FIRs have been registered based on these alerts. Additionally, the app has facilitated 242 family counselling requests, 160 safe travel alerts, and 18 reports related to missing children. To enhance on-ground safety, 164 Shakti Teams, led by IG-rank officers, have been deployed across the state. These teams, often in plain clothes, patrol areas identified as crime hotspots—900 such locations have been mapped and are under constant surveillance. A wareness is another pillar of the campaign. Shakti Teams have conducted 12,119 awareness camps and visited 17,665 locations, including railway stations, bus stands, public spaces, and rural areas, to educate women on the use and importance of the Shakti App. Efforts to curb harassment have also intensified, with 254 individuals identified for eve-teasing and placed under watch. DGP Gupta stressed the need for a cultural shift, advocating gender sensitivity education from the school and college level and encouraging respect for women among men. He called for strong legal action against harassment and violence, while simultaneously pushing for women's empowerment as a long-term solution. "This multi-layered approach—combining technology, on-ground vigilance, community outreach, and cultural change—is being seen as a model for women's safety initiatives," DGP Gupta added.

Women urged to download Shakti App
Rajamahendravaram: An awareness programme on women's safety was conducted at Allu Ramalingaiah Medical College on Wednesday under the leadership of DSP (Women Police Station) KV Satyanarayana, who serves as the District In-charge Nodal Officer of the Shakti Team. The programme was organised following the instructions of District SP D Narasimha Kishore. During the session, DSP Satyanarayana educated the participants on preventive measures against sexual assaults targeting women and girls. He also provided insights into self-defence techniques that can be useful for women. The DSP explained about the importance of understanding the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the benefits of using the Shakti App, a dedicated application designed for women's safety. He urged all women to download the Shakti App and explained that it allows them to seek immediate police assistance at any time in case of an emergency. Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna also addressed the gathering, adding further insights on safety measures. Around 250 lady homeopathic medical students and faculty members attended the meeting.

Keep an eye on fake news on Op Sindoor, police officials told
Eluru: District Superintendent of Police K Pratap Shiva Kishore stressed there should be strict surveillance on false propaganda as part of ongoing Operation Sindoor. He asked officials to keep an eye on movements of unfamiliar individuals. He conducted the annual inspection of Chintalapudi Police Station on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he said any suspicious activity on WhatsApp or social media should be monitored, and group admins spreading misinformation should face legal action. He proposed conducting mock drills to educate the public on how to protect themselves during emergencies, increasing awareness and preparedness among citizens. On this occasion, the Chintalapudi police personnel extended a ceremonial guard of honour to the SP. The SP advised the staff to implement the 'Swachhanda Andhra – Swarnandhra' programmes to ensure cleanliness in and around the police station. He emphasised use of drone surveillance to detect crimes and take immediate action on traffic-related issues. He reviewed all records maintained at the station and provided guidelines to improve administrative practices. He interacted with officers to gain insights into the issues faced by each village within the division. The SP emphasised that prompt resolution of minor local issues by officers would help maintain long-term peace and security. He suggested strengthening of the surveillance system to eliminate antisocial activities in the region. The SP also suggested conducting awareness programmes on 'Shakti App' in high schools, colleges, and crowded places. Women and girls should be encouraged to use the app, enhancing their sense of safety and trust in law enforcement. Issues raised during the Monday grievance redressal programmes should be addressed promptly to deliver quick justice to complainants. He directed them to put in joint efforts to reduce road accidents through special measures. Traffic rule violators should be identified and acted upon using drone surveillance technology. The public should be educated about the benefits of CCTV cameras. The SP highlighted the importance of installing CCTV in commercial complexes, apartments, roads, and public places for effective investigations. During the inspection, the SP gave clear directions to the police staff to enhance efforts in law & order maintenance, crime control, and public grievance resolution. Blood donation camp inaugurated In addition, the SP inaugurated a Mega Blood Donation Camp in Chintalapudi town, organised with the support of the local police department. The public participated enthusiastically, and the SP commended the donors for their noble contribution. 'Among all donations, blood donation is the greatest gift. It gives new life to those in danger. Everyone should come forward to donate blood. Patients with thalassemia require regular transfusions, and your donated blood could be the reason they survive. Let us all promote this life-saving act,' he appealed. The programme was attended by Jangareddygudem DSP U Ravichandra, Chintalapudi Inspector Ch Rajasekhar, SI Kutumba Rao, along with other officers and police staff.

SP explains significance of Civil Rights Day
Nallamada: On Civil Rights Day, Sri Sathya Sai District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mrs. V. Ratna, IPS, emphasized that every citizen has the constitutional right to live freely and equally in society. She called for greater awareness of legal rights and encouraged citizens to seek justice through lawful means if their rights are violated. The Civil Rights Day event was held at the premises of the village secretariat in Nallamada with participation from people of all communities. SP Ratna attended as the chief guest and addressed the gathering. She noted that in Sri Sathya Sai District, Civil Rights Day is regularly observed in coordination with officials from all departments to promote awareness among the public. SP Ratna also pointed out that there are strict laws in place to protect women and children from indecent behavior and explained the importance of SC/ST laws. She outlined the compensations provided by the government to victims under such legislations. She guided women and children on how to safeguard themselves and recommended downloading the Shakti App to enhance personal safety. The event also included speeches from officials who urged the public to make good use of the constitutional rights and raised awareness about the negative consequences of child marriages. Later, SP Ratna conducted an inspection of the Nallamada Police Station. Other attendees included DSP Vijay Kumar, CI Narender Reddy, SB SI Pradeep Kumar, Sarpanch Bharati, Deputy Tahsildar Sunitha, Superintendent Srinivasa Reddy, SI Mallikarjuna Reddy, and members of the SC/ST Vigilance Monitoring Committee including Narayana, along with people from various communities.
