Why is Eastenders not on BBC iPlayer? Reason Monday's episode is ‘missing'

Metro4 days ago

A new era dawns on Walford as Ben Wadey takes over as EastEnders boss from this week, and in order to mark the occasion, a mysterious and intriguing offering of the BBC One soap lined up.
'Next week marks the start of something big in Walford that we hope will get everyone talking, and it's only just the beginning,' said Executive Producer Ben on Friday, teasing what's to come.
'We've got twists, shocks, and plenty of drama lined up for a summer you don't want to miss.'
The excitement is real… but if you've tried to tune in already, you'll have noticed that it's nowhere to be seen.
With 'something big' on the horizon to kick things off the new chapter, Monday's (June 16) edition of the long-running serial will be withheld from BBC iPlayer until after it's broadcast on BBC One at 7:30pm.
EastEnders, as audiences know, traditionally drops daily episodes on BBC iPlayer from 6am, over 12 hours before they transmit on telly.
But this service will not be available to fans on Monday, who will instead have to wait until the evening to get their daily Walford fix. Do you normally watch EastEnders early on iPlayer? Yes - I like my early morning visits to Walford
No - my daily Albert Square fix is better suited to evenings
Monday's episode will pick up following Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie's (Shane Richie) special wedding day and Jean (Gillian Wright) is yet again on the warpath, making it her mission to sabotage Harvey (Ross Boatman) and Kathy's (Gillian Taylforth) new business venture.
Alfie does his best to stop her interference but he's soon distracted by a phone call from Stacey (Lacey Turner).

Joel Marshall (Max Murray), meanwhile, is arrested after he assaults a Tube passenger, much to the horror of Tommy (Sonny Kendall).
Over the weekend, the BBC soap has posted a number of cryptic clues, seeming to suggest that a return could be on the cards.
The first of these videos showed a door opening onto Albert Square, captioned: 'Knock knock, who's there?'
Further videos followed the apparent point of view of the returnee, with the camera briefly flickering to black at occasions to indicate blinking.
But who could it be? More Trending
The offering in question will be the first tribute to Ben Wadey, who takes over from Chris Clenshaw.
Under Chris' reign, EastEnders won a string of awards – including a whopping eight at the Soap Awards last month – and received acclaim on a regular basis.
EastEnders continues Monday June 16 at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Emmerdale's Cain broken and bereft as more sad news hits the Dingles

As if he hasn't got enough going on, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) received even more bad news in tonight's episode of Emmerdale. After learning that Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) had been killed and thrown in a lake, Cain has tried to process his grief, but he's been regularly interrupted by Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh). Following the fight Cain and Nate had before he died, Tracy has now decided Cain killed his own son, and won't give the theory up. Yesterday, Cain arrived in the shop to speak with Tracy about Nate's funeral. He wanted to know what her plans were, but she said they involved not inviting him to the event. Cain was devastated. He tried to make himself feel better by judging Eric's (Chris Chittell) relationship with his own son, but the shop owner hit back and said that his son is alive, unlike Cain's. Eric knew that Cain was lashing out because he couldn't deal with the fact Nate died hating him. The comments made Cain tearful, it was obvious that Eric was right. Cain found solace in a bottle of Zak's homemade whisky, but then drank even more courtesy of John (Oliver Farnworth). He was looking for a high and needed to save someone, so he forced Cain to drink so much he passed out. Moira (Natalie J Robb) returned home just as John was putting Cain in the recovery position. He set him up with a drip, and told Moira that Cain just needs rest. Cain didn't leave the sofa in tonight's episode as he dealt with a hellish hangover. As a result, he got Sarah (Katie Hill) to sort the work that needed doing at the garage. When Charity (Emma Atkins) found out, she was annoyed at Cain. Charity now knows that Sarah has cancer, and knew she should be resting rather than doing her job. More Trending Charity marched over to Butlers and told Cain that Sarah wouldn't be at work for the foreseeable. He obviously wanted to know why and eventually, Charity revealed to him and Moira that Sarah has cancer…despite telling her granddaughter that she wouldn't tell them. The news hit Cain like a tonne of bricks. In the past few weeks alone, he's been told that his son is dead, his daughter Debbie (Charley Webb) moved to Australia without even telling him, and now his granddaughter has been diagnosed with cancer. Moira tried to comfort Cain, but it's certainly going to take him a little while to get his head around all of the upsetting news that keeps being thrown at him. Corrie's Sue Cleaver shares if she will move to rival soap after ITV exit

Sue Cleaver has played Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street for 25 years but quit the role earlier this year. She has now revealed if she will ever appear on a rival soap Former Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has revealed if she will ever appear on a rival soap following her final appearance as Eileen Grimshaw airing earlier this month. The 61-year-old actress announced her decision to bid farewell to Weatherfield at the start of this year, after an impressive 25 years on the ITV soap. At the time, she issued a heartfelt statement: "I've had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street," adding further, "The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly." ‌ Sue hasn't been idle during her tenure on the Street – she took a hiatus to tread the boards as Mother Superior in Sister Act before gracing our screens as a panellist on ITV's Loose Women in 2024. ‌ She also enjoyed a stint on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Back in 2022. But now she has the time to commit to other projects, will Sue be popping up on a rival soap like Coronation Street or EastEnders? It's not unheard of for actors to pop up in multiple soap universes, with the likes of Denise Welch and Michelle Collins appearing on both EastEnders and Coronation Street. Speaking in a new interview, Sue says she is "chuffed" with her Corrie legacy, and believes she was given "a wonderful send off" but admits she is ready to "live fearlessly." "I think people forget that you either have courage or you don't, courage is a muscle, start really small and put yourself out of your comfort zone for a couple of minutes a day, enquire about a book club or evening class, because that muscle really does," the actress muses. Sue continues to recall to The Sun how filming her final scenes "was really weird feeling, but it felt right" and it was "the right time" to go. She is now ready to take advantage of her new found "freedom" after spending over two decades at ITV. ‌ "I love doing Loose Women, there are other things I want to do and there is a lot more of the world I want to see," Sue admits. But when it comes to going over to the dark side and popping into The Queen Vic or the Woolpack, Sue is adamant that she is still loyal to Corrie. She rules out appearing on another soap "at this stage" as she is still "very committed to Corrie", adding: "I've been incredibly fortunate and it gave me the opportunity that not many actresses have, to be at home, to be there for my son in the morning and put him to bed at night and to have a proper home life, whereas normally you have to go where the work is. I've been extremely fortunate, it's not lost on me how lucky I've been, it has a big place in my heart." ‌ Speaking to the Mirror in May, Sue opened up on her decision to have co-star Ryan Thomas return for her final episodes, as his character Eileen's son Jason Grimshaw makes a huge offer. Sue shared: "Ryan was there from the start, and he was inconveniently living in Thailand, and it wouldn't be too far of a jump to expect that if Eileen was going to make a leap, that she would involve her son. "And so when I decided to leave, like over a year ago, I rang Ryan, and I said, 'Ryan, I'm going to tell them that I'm going, and if they ask me about exits, I'd really like to say that you'd come back and take me out, but I don't know whether they'd go for it or not'. "And he just went, 'Oh my gosh, of course, I would', which was so lovely for me. And it was just so nice to have him back and filming those final scenes with him. It just felt like I'd come full circle really."

EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy shuts down 'disgusting' false cancer hoax after fan concern: 'It is completely made up and a terrible story'

EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has shut down the 'disgusting' false rumour that she has breast cancer. The actress, 42, took to Instagram Stories on Friday to debunk the cruel hoax, which had been shared in an EastEnders Facebook fan group. According to the story, the star had broken down in tears when she was given the diagnosis. Its headline read: 'Natalie Cassidy Breaks Down as She Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis: "I Didn't Want Anyone to Know…"' Slamming the fake story, Natalie wrote: 'THIS IS DISGUSTING AND DISGRACEFUL. So many people are going through this and I have had messages asking if I'm ok. 'It is completely made up and a terrible story. Take this down whoever you are.' The cruel rumour follows the actress leaving her long-running role as Sonia Fowler on the BBC soap opera in April. Before her exit she had been involved in an emotional storyline that saw her wrongfully accused of murder. It then emerged that her on-screen partner Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) had actually carried out the terrible crime. She made her dramatic exit on a speedboat with sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), daughters Bex (Jasmine Armfield) and baby Julia after locking her estranged father Terry Cant (Glen Davies) in a garage. Since leaving EastEnders, the actress has been busy with a host of other projects including a BBC documentary that follows her journey training to be a carer. She is also the host of the Channel 4 consumer show Britain's Best Buys. Natalie was a longtime feature of EastEnders, first stepping into Sonia's shoes way back in 1993 when she was just 10 years old. She is not the only soap star to recently be the subject of online rumours and Emmerdale's Lisa Riley has also been a victim. Lisa - AKA Mandy Dingle - was recently forced to issue a warning to fans about AI impersonators. Riley, 48, said in a video: 'If something is not on my page – and my page is blue-ticked – then it is not real. 'It is AI pretending to be me, and there is nothing I can do about it. 'It's a hoax, it's a scam and it's a lie. 'So please, I'm begging you, don't click on it, don't believe it, don't read it, don't give it any attention. 'It's not true.'
