Passengers on TUI flight evacuated after bomb threat note in the toilet

British passengers were forced to evacuate a TUI flight yesterday after a bomb threat was found on board. Cabin crew members found the threatening note inside the toilet on the jet as it flew from Cardiff to the Canary Islands on Thursday morning. They handed the note to the pilots, who then quickly diverted the Flight BY6422 to César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport in Lanzarote. Once the plane landed, passengers were rushed off and bomb specialists were called to investigate. They were told to identify their luggage after they disembarked from the jet, according to the Canarian Weekly. No explosive devices were found and the bomb squad confirmed it was a false alarm while four departures at the airport were delayed. Two F-16M jets from Air Base number 5 in Monte Real were also deployed as the note was found while the plane was flying over Portugal, the Portuguese Air Force said in a statement. Air traffic controllers posted on X: 'The plane has been guided with the presence of firefighters to a siding where the passengers have had to identify their luggage. 'Landing and takeoff operations have been temporarily interrupted, which has caused some delays.' A spokesperson for the Portuguese military said: 'With the F-16Ms already monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and good management of national airspace, the crew of the civilian aircraft decided to continue the flight to the destination airport, outside national territory. 'Upon leaving the national flight information region, responsibility passed to Spain, with the Portuguese F-16Ms carrying out the handover of the mission and subsequent return to Monte Real.' Authorities are now investigating the incident to find out what happened on the plane. More Trending TUI has been contacted for comment by Metro. In a separate incident, a Ryanair flight crashed into a barrier shortly after landing Kalamata International Airport. The Boeing 737 had landed at the airport on Wednesday morning from London Stansted Airport. Passengers on flight FR6080 reportedly endured 'severe turbulence' during the three-and-a-half-hour flight. Wildfire warning issued for London after city reaches 32°C

A wildfire warning has been issued for London with temperatures expected to reach highs of 33°C. The threat of wildfires is set to grow today and tomorrow while temperatures are highest, according to London Fire Brigade. The brigade is urging Londoners to take steps to prevent the risk of wildfires spreading. London Fire Brigade Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said: 'With temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and the driest spring in over a century, the risk of fires spreading rapidly is high. 'With so many of our open spaces close to homes and livelihoods, it is vital we all play our part to reduce the chance of grass fires breaking out in the first place and to protect our communities from incidents.' Two grass fires broke out in Rainham on Wednesday within just an hour of each other. Often, the most common cause of wildfires is the use of BBQs, particularly disposable ones. Across England and Wales, firefighters have responded to more than 500 wildfires so far this year. BBQs Position your BBQ outdoors, on level ground (not decking) and keep it well away from anything that may catch fire such as sheds, fences, or trees. Avoid distractions from people around you and never leave the BBQ unattended. Avoid drinking alcohol if you are in charge of the BBQ. Keep children, pets and garden games a safe distance from the BBQ. After cooking, make sure the BBQ is cool before moving or cleaning. Empty ashes onto bare garden soil, not into dustbins or wheelie bins. If they're hot, they can melt the plastic and start a fire. Keep a bucket of water, sand or a garden hose nearby for emergencies. Smoking Discarded smoking materials pose a huge fire risk. If you have had a cigarette, please make sure that it is completely out. Never throw cigarette ends out of car windows. If you are smoking on your balcony, have an ashtray to hand, and don't flick your ashes off the balcony. Rubbish Don't leave bottles or glass in woodland or open spaces – sunlight shining through glass can start fires (take them home and recycle them). Leftover rubbish poses a huge fire risk. People are asked to ensure their rubbish is placed securely inside a bin or to take it home with them. Source: London Fire Brigade Temperatures reached as high as 32°C in Kew, West London, yesterday, and are set to rise even further to 33°C today and over the weekend. The hot weather is expected to peak on Saturday with temperatures of 34°C, below the June record of 35.6°C in 1976. An amber heat-health alert has been issued for all regions in England and is the first amber alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) since September 2023. The amber alert means 'significant impacts are likely' across health and social care services because of high temperatures. More Trending This includes a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or people with health conditions. The Met Office has warned that by this afternoon, a number of areas will have passed the heatwave threshold. A heatwave is recorded when areas reach a certain temperature for three consecutive days, with thresholds varying from 25°C to 28°C in different parts of the UK. Dan Stroud from the Met Office said: 'We're expecting the hot and dry conditions to continue, it does turn a little bit hazier in the west during the course of Friday, we're still expecting temperatures to reach the low 30s, 31, 32°C fairly widely, maybe seeing 33°C.' Huge Robert shock in early Emmerdale ITVX release

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX. Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) has returned to the Emmerdale village and as much as he won't accept it, he isn't the same man who left all those years ago. We saw Robert a few weeks ago, when he interrupted Aaron Dingle's (Danny Miller) wedding to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). It became apparent that Robert had been released after appealing, but he was quickly sent back inside after breaking the rules of his bail conditions. But with his small sentenced served, Robert was allowed back out of prison and wasted no time in heading back to the Dales. When he got there yesterday, Robert entered Mill Cottage flat due to John assuming he was the pizza delivery guy. Robert announced that he was back to spend time with his family – though it was obvious he had an ulterior motive as well. In tonight's episode, Robert told Vic that he'd spend the day trying to find a new job. He had passed the early hours of the morning walking through the village because he couldn't sleep, but told his sister it was because he had missed the fresh air. Robert headed up to the depot to see Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and spun a story about his life that didn't feature him in prison. Unfortunately for Robert, Caleb saw right through his lie due to being told about him by his brother. However, Caleb could see that Robert wanted a chance and gave him one. It made John angry later in the pub, even more so when Caleb failed to listen to him about Robert being bad news. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? That afternoon, while Vic was at the shop, Robert tried to catch up on some sleep. When she returned, Vic set about pouring a drink for the two of them. As she chatted away, she failed to realise Robert was suffering a bad dream about his time in prison. More Trending Vic tapped Robert's leg to wake him up but just as he opened his eyes, his confused state led him to punching Vic in the face. Robert tried to help her, but a panicked Vic told him to leave. Can she live alongside Robert and his trauma following years behind bars?
