Carlos Cuesta sends message to Mikel Arteta after confirming Arsenal exit
Carlos Cuesta has bid farewell to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal after confirming he will leave the club to take over at Parma.
The 29-year-old has been a highly-regarded member of the Arsenal coaching staff and one of Arteta's closest confidantes at the Emirates for the last five seasons.
But he is now set to step out on his own with Parma turning to the Spaniard in their search for a replacement for Christian Chivu, who stepped down from his post to take the Inter Milan job.
Cuesta has now confirmed his imminent exit with an emotional goodbye to the Gunners.
'After five beautiful years it's hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and value,' he wrote.

'The only thing I've ever tried to do was give everything I had inside of me every single day.
'I was inspired by the culture that was created, by the hunger of every person of the organisation and by the unity that we had in any situation that we had to face.
'It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work with the players, staff, directors and all the employees of the club and at the same time, to receive an extra push from our amazing fans in every match.
'Because of the quality of its people, I'm convinced that the best moments for this football club are still yet to come. Enjoy the journey, because it is a very exciting one. Thank you Arsenal.'
To those who have worked with Cuesta, it will come as no shock to see him emerging from Arteta's shadow to take a senior role at a leading club.
Speaking to The Athletic last year, Granit Xhaka, who had moved to Bayer Leverkusen by that stage, gave an insight into how and why such a young coach was able to make the impression he did at Arsenal.
'Of course, you are always surprised when someone of that young age comes to a big club like Arsenal,' Xhaka said.
'My feeling from the first meeting with him was that first of all, as a person, he is very honest, very straight, but he also had great knowledge about football.
'He knows what he's doing, he knows how to speak with the players, what the players need. It was just amazing from the beginning.'
'How Carlos improved — day by day, month by month, year on year — was unbelievable. The individual meetings that we had with him were always on point, very clear to understand, and I was very grateful to learn many many new things
'The relationship between Carlos and me was very special. I think how we were thinking as people was exactly the same. The honesty we showed each other, and other people, was always the same.
'He helped me a lot. We had so many individual meetings, video sessions, and conversations. To be honest, these things helped bring me where I am today.'
Cuesta dedicated a second Instagram post to Arteta, 'the man who made it happen' for the young coach.
'Thank you. That's the only thing I can say,' he wrote.
'Thank you for your trust, for giving me the opportunity to be next to you and for showing me with constant facts which is the meaning of the word 'courage'.
'But more than that, thank you for being an incredible coach, an incredible leader, and an even better human being. More Trending
'It has been a true privilege to learn from you, to feel your support in any circumstance and to share the ups and downs of the journey always seeing the positive side of it.
'You've taught me a lot, and I will carry it always with me.
'From the bottom of my heart, thank you.'

Alexander Isak update emerges as Viktor Gyokeres rejects £11m-a-year offer
Arsenal are expected to be amongst the Premier League's top spenders this summer as Mikel Arteta and Co look for a new striker and further signings to help them in their latest title bid Arsenal are still on the hunt for a new No.9. And with the transfer window starting to heat up, the Gunners could soon be making a play for their top target. It still remains unclear exactly who that is; Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko are seen as the two most likely options to spearhead Arsenal 's attack in the upcoming 2025-26 season and both are expected to leave their respective clubs this summer. Arsenal and Liverpool also hold an interest in Alexander Isak, although it is expected the Newcastle star will stay put for now. With Mikel Arteta also keen on adding a new wide forward to his attacking ranks plenty of activity is expected in north London over the coming weeks. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news from in and around The Emirates... Isak staying put All parties believe that it's a 'certainty' that Alexander Isak will remain with Newcastle this summer despite interest in the Sweden international's services from Arsenal and Liverpool. Both Arsenal and newly minted Premier League champions are in the market for a new No.9 this summer and Isak - the top-flight's second highest scorer last term with 23 goals - is a signing both clubs would love to make. However, Newcastle are in a position of strength after qualifying for the Champions League and, as per The Telegraph, it's expected they will keep hold of their star striker this summer. Gyokeres rejects huge offer Viktor Gyokeres is said to have rejected a significant approach from Juventus which would have seen the sought-after Sporting Lisbon star land a lucrative contract worth £11million-a-year. It emerged earlier this week that the Italian giants had tabled the huge offer in a bid to land Gyokeres ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United. But with Arsenal being Gyokeres' preferred destination, Corriere dello Sport report that Juventus have been informed the Swede will not be joining them. Zubimendi in London Martin Zubimendi flew into London Friday to finalise his summer transfer from Real Sociedad, according to The Athletic. Zubimendi, 26, came close to joining Liverpool last year before a change of heart at the eleventh hour, but it emerged back in the spring that a move to Arsenal was as good as done. And official confirmation of said deal could now be imminent with Zubimendi in the UK to put pen to paper.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson issues lengthy public apology - 'I let you down'
Nicolas Jackson's position at Chelsea is under threat from Liam Delap, and his response to losing his place to the £30m new boy on his birthday was a shocker Nicolas Jackson has issued a public apology after his red card in the FIFA Club World Cup. Chelsea hothead Jackson got his marching orders on his 24th BIRTHDAY just FOUR MINUTES after coming on as a substitute for a shocking X-rated challenge. Jackson entered the field with the score 1-1 in Chelsea's second game of the tournament, against Brazilian side Flamengo. By the time he left the field they were 2-1 down, before going on to lose 3-1 to the side coached by ex-Blues left-back Filipe Luis. After the match, Jackson wrote on instagram: 'I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card... and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. 'I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. 'No excuses. I take full responsibility. 'I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry.' It compounded six minutes of second half madness for Chelsea as Flamengo turned the game on its head and went from 1-0 down to 2-1 up before Jackson got sent off. There was no excuse for his appalling studs-up challenge on Flamengo's Ayrton Lucas which in this competition gets an automatic one game ban which FIFA can review and upgrade. Frankly, they should throw the book at him and it is no wonder that Maresca signed Liam Delap because he cannot trust Jackson. Jackson has so much talent but his reckless temperament makes him a liability and suddenly, from winning their first game, the mood will change in the Chelsea camp. Defender Marc Cucurella revealed he apologised to the players in the dressing room post-game. The Spaniard said: "He's very sad. He tried to win the ball, had the bad luck that he kicked his leg and that's it. He's a young player with a lot of quality but maybe needs to improve a little bit in these things. 'But he has to learn. After the manager spoke, he said sorry, he didn't do it on purpose. He's a very important player for us, we will miss him in the next game but this is football.' Jon Obi Mikel, working for DAZN, was scathing in his assessment. He said: "Unbelievable, a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I don't know what was going through his head. Your team needs you and he does that!" "He did that at Newcastle in an important game. He got a red card. And now he's done this again. You can't keep making mistakes like this." Watch the Club World Cup free on DAZN £0 DAZN Get DAZN here Product Description Asked whether Jackson could have been frustrated at losing his place to Delap, Mikel responded: "I don't care what his frustration is (Delap starting). This is a massive football club and it's about competition. "If you're angry or p****d off, then you have to embrace it. We need competition." DAZN presenter Kelly Somers apologised for the choice of language from Mikel. But going back to the incident later on, Mikel added: "Jackson needs to have a word with himself, where do you want to go with your Chelsea career?" Arsenal could replace Thomas Partey with surprise Premier League star
Arsenal are set to sign Martin Zubimendi but with Jorginho gone and Thomas Partey increasingly likely to depart too when his contract expires, the Gunners need additional reinforcements Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard could attract the interest of Arsenal this transfer window. The 31-year-old has two years left on his contract with the Bees, having signed a new deal earlier this year. But he is among the midfield targets the Gunners could consider moving for this summer as they seek to bolster the middle of the park. Arsenal are poised to complete the signing of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad but could lose Thomas Partey, whose deal runs out this month and is yet to sign a contract extension with the club. The Ghanaian played 52 times in all competitions under Mikel Arteta last season and his departure would mean Arteta's side would be in increased need of cover in the holding midfield position. It follows the departure of Italy international Jorginho, who has also exited the club this summer. He joined Brazilian side Flamengo after two-and-a-half years with Arsenal, and helped inspire them to victory over Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup on Friday night. Norgaard signed for Brentford in 2019 and was part of the team which won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2021. The Bees captain has been integral to the club securing five straight seasons of Premier League football. He played 34 times in the Premier League under former head coach Thomas Frank last season, who has since departed for Tottenham Hotspur to replace Ange Postecoglou. Norgaard has also been a regular for the Danish national team in recent seasons. Brentford would demand a sizeable fee for their skipper, however, with other key players including Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa also attracting interest from elsewhere. But given his age, if Arsenal made a move and Norgaard was interested in a final big move as his career advances towards its finale, then the Bees may allow him to exit for a cut-price fee.
