Last Updated: Parma appointed 29-year-old Carlos Cuesta, formerly an assistant at Arsenal, as the youngest head coach in Serie A history, replacing Cristian Chivu. Parma appointed 29-year-old Carlos Cuesta as the youngest head coach in Serie A history on Thursday, replacing Cristian Chivu. 'Parma Calcio are delighted to announce that, as of 1 July, Carlos Cuesta will become manager of the Men's First Team," the club stated on their website, adding that the coach had signed a two-year contract. Cuesta is not only the youngest manager ever in the Italian league but also three years younger than any other manager set to be in charge of a top-five league club for the 2025/26 season. Parma have officially appointed former Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta as their new manager and he becomes the youngest boss in the top-five leagues at 29 😯🔥🇪🇸 — (@TMuk_news) June 19, 2025 Cuesta comes from Arsenal, where he has served as an assistant to Mikel Arteta since 2000. Before that, he spent two years in Italy coaching Juventus' youth teams. Widely regarded as one of the best young coaches, Cuesta has been instrumental in Arsenal's progress under Arteta. Last season, Cuesta was heavily linked with Norwich and attracted interest from several Championship clubs and beyond. Now, he joins a struggling Parma side in need of a fresh start. Parma returned to Serie A and were languishing in 18th place when Chivu was appointed in February, following seven years coaching Inter Milan's youth teams. Chivu departed after the season to take over at Inter, where he also played for six seasons. Cuesta was reportedly preferred over Italian candidates Daniele De Rossi, Alberto Gilardino, and Paolo Vanoli. Although the Serie A season does not start until 23 August, Cuesta is the ninth new coach appointed this summer. Two of the 20 clubs still have unfilled vacancies. ‘Thank you for being an incredible coach'

Arsenal assistant coach Carlos Cuesta has taken to social media to say his goodbyes ahead of taking over the vacant managerial role at Parma. The 29-year-old is set to become the youngest manager in the Italian top flight this century, and second-youngest in history, when he completes his move to the Italian side, who finished in 16th in Serie A last season. Advertisement Cuesta will be replacing Chrstian Chivu, who guided the Yellow and Blues to survival before taking over at Inter following the departure of Simone Inzaghi. In a post on his Instagram, Cuesta spoke of his gratitude of working at the Gunners since being brought to the club by Mikel Arteta in 2020 after stints at Atletico Madrid and Juventus. 'After five beautiful years it's hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and values,' Cuesta said. 'The only thing I've ever tried to do was give everything I had inside of me every single day. I was inspired by the culture that was created, by the hunger of every person of the organisation and by the unity that we had in any situation that we had to face. 'It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work with the players, staff, directors and all the employees of the club and at the same time, to receive an extra push from our amazing fans in every match.' Advertisement Cuesta followed this up with a second post thanking Arteta for his 'trust' during their five years together in north London. 'And then, to the person that made it happen. Thank you. That's the only thing I can say,' he added. 'Thank you for your trust, for giving me the opportunity to be next to you and for showing me with constant facts which is the meaning of the word 'courage'. 'But more than that, thank you for being an incredible coach, an incredible leader, and an even better human being. 'It has been a true privilege to learn from you, to feel your support in any circumstance and to share the ups and downs of the journey always seeing the positive side of it. You've taught me a lot, and I will carry it always with me. 'From the bottom of my heart, thank you.'

Youngest soccer boss in 86 years takes reins in Italy

Spaniard Carlos Cuesta has become the youngest coach in Serie A in nearly a century after being hired by Parma. It is the 29-year-old Cuesta's first role as a head coach after spending the past five years as an assistant at English Premier League club Arsenal. Parma announced on Thursday that Cuesta had signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year. Cuesta has experience in Italy, having been an assistant coach with the under-17 team at Juventus for two years. He also worked with Atletico Madrid's youth teams prior to that. Cuesta, a Mallorca native, is the second-youngest coach ever to work in the Italian top flight. In 1939, Elio Loschi was 29 years 9 months 20 days old when he took charge of his first match as player-coach at Triestina. Cuesta will be 30 years 26 days old when he takes to the dugout for Parma's first match, coincidentally also against Juventus. Italian media reported that Cuesta took his first steps into coaching when he was studying in Madrid. He messaged members of the technical staff of both the city's teams on social media until the then-coach of Atletico's under-12 team responded. Parma's previous coach Cristian Chivu left the club last week, after steering the team to Serie A safety, taking over instead at Inter Milan. Report – Parma Striker One Step From Joining Inter Milan In €25M Deal

Parma striker Ange-Yoan Bonny is reportedly one step away from joining Inter Milan in a deal worth €25 million. This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport italia, via FCInterNews. They report that the negotiations between the clubs are just down to the question of add-ons now. Advertisement Inter Milan are now rapidly approaching the closing stage of negotiations with Parma for striker Ange-Yoan Bonny. The Nerazzurri's interest in the 21-year-old is certainly no secret. They had already been targeting him before appointing Cristian Chivu as coach – and the Romanian has further pushed them towards a deal. Inter see Bonny as an ideal player to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Thuram. Advertisement Napoli had also shown an interest in signing the Frenchman. However, they have all but withdrawn from the race. The Nerazzurri have more or less agreed a deal worth €25 million for Bonny. The only thing that is in any question now is the question of add-ons. Parma want a straight €25 million fee, reports Sky Sport Italia. On the other hand, Inter want a deal at that valuation, but including add-ons.
