Arsenal star lifts lid on their huge transfer plans - 'It's going to be busy'
Arsenal are poised to splash the cash in the summer transfer window, with the arrival of £51million midfielder Martin Zubmendi set to be followed by that of a big-money striker Arsenal star Jurrien Timber has told fans to expect a 'busy' summer transfer window as the Gunners prepare to spend big. Mikel Arteta's side have funds to invest after having to settle for second place in the Premier League for a third season in a row. First through the door looks set to be Martin Zubimendi, with Arsenal ready to pay his £51million release clause and fend off interest from Real Madrid. The Spaniard, 26, will offer a new element in Arteta's midfield but it's up front where fans' focus lies. The Gunners are weighing up a move for one of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko. Sporting Lisbon striker Gyokeres bagged 54 goals last season while 22-year-old RB Leipzig prospect Sesko has youth on his side and is a long-term target. Alternatives include Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins and Paris Saint-Germain's Goncalo Ramos, as dream signing Alexander Isak has been deemed too expensive. Whoever ends up leading Arteta's attack in the new term, Timber expects more business to be done in other areas. "It will definitely be a busy one for Arsenal," the Dutch defender told podcast Matchday. "I think we will get a lot of players, because we had so many injuries last season. At one point we almost had no players left. So for the depth of the players they definitely want to get players." Timber's own position could be under threat, having primarily played at right-back since his £34million arrival from Ajax in 2023. Arsenal are understood to be looking at a number of full-backs in addition to work being done to bolster their midfield and attack. Gunners co-chairman Josh Kroenke recently offered a hint towards the club's approach to the summer after another season without a trophy. "We plan to invest to get behind winning and doing better next season," Kroenke wrote to supporters in May. "We're delighted we have our sporting director, Andrea [Berta], who will play an important role in this. He is part of a unified and strong team, supported by the board, who are crystal clear on exactly what we need to do and the way in which we want to do it. Which striker should Arsenal sign - Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko? Let us know your pick in the comments section. "The right way. The Arsenal way. Ultimately, we all want the same thing. We're as hungry for success as you are and that goes for everyone who works for the club." Towards the end of the campaign, Arteta was asked if he felt backed by the club's hierarchy. "Yeah, but that's not something new," the Gunners manager responded. "They always backed the team, the club in the best possible way. They're not going to be different in the summer."

Parma name Arsenal assistant coach Cuesta as manager
Parma have named former Arsenal assistant coach Carlos Cuesta as manager, the Italian Serie A club said on Thursday, with the 29-year-old Spaniard taking up his first senior managerial role. Cuesta, who signed a two-year contract, replaces Cristian Chivu who left this month to join Inter Milan. Cuesta, now the youngest manager in Europe's top five leagues, has been Mikel Arteta's right-hand man at Arsenal for the past five years. Having decided at a young age that his future lay in coaching rather than playing, Cuesta was given his first chance at Atletico Madrid with their underage teams and after four years there, went travelling Europe to study coaching methods. It was during this period that Cuesta met Arteta, then part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff at Manchester City, and after a two-year spell with Juventus' youth academy, Cuesta joined Arsenal in 2020. Cuesta has played a key role in Arsenal's rise to title challengers, known for his one-on-one talks with players as he specialised in individual player development, focusing on technical skills and tactical principles. While Cuesta, fluent in six languages including Italian, clearly made an impression on Arteta when they first met, the same can be said about his time at Juventus when Federico Cherubini, now Parma CEO, was involved at the club. Mikel Arteta ally makes feelings clear in parting message before Arsenal exit
Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will see a change to the club's backroom team as Carlos Cuesta departs the Emirates for Italy as he is expected to take the head coach role at Parma Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta has sent a touching message to Mikel Arteta as he prepares to take on his first role in management at Parma. Cuesta is expected to be named Parma's head coach after Cristian Chivu left for Inter Milan. The 29-year-old appears to have confirmed his departure by paying tribute to Gunners boss Arteta and crediting the Spaniard with playing a crucial role in his journey. Cuesta joined Arsenal in 2020 from Juventus and has drawn interest as a trusted lieutenant of Arteta in that time. The Arsenal assistant started his coaching career at just 18 at Atletico Madrid and will now become the youngest boss in Europe's top five leagues. Arteta said last year that he would not stand in Cuesta's way should he want to depart. Cuesta only signed a contract extension in April. The Spanish coach committed until 2027 alongside four other members of coaching staff. But now, the coach is set to see how his ability improving the tactical understanding of Arsenal's stars translates to earning results in Serie A. And Cuesta felt compelled to express his thanks to Arteta for everything he has learned from him. "And then, to the person that made it happen. Thank you. That's the only thing I can say," Cuesta posted on Instagram with a photograph of Arteta and himself. "Thank you for your trust, for giving me the opportunity to be next to you and for showing me with constant facts which is the meaning of the word 'courage'. "But more than that, thank you for being an incredible coach, an incredible leader, and an even better human being. It has been a true privilege to learn from you, to feel your support in any circumstance and to share the ups and downs of the journey always seeing the positive side of it. "You've taught me a lot, and I will carry it always with me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you." Arteta has previously noted that members of his staff would always depart with his blessing. 'If that's the will?' Arteta said. 'You cannot do that. I wouldn't, no. With the staff as well, everybody needs to feel there is a path, there is a development plan for everyone. People don't want to do the same thing for three, four, five years. It is a way to incentivise and inspire other people and then to explore because you don't really know the limit of a person unless you expose him to certain things.' Cuesta has been working under Arteta since 2020, having previously coached at Atletico Madrid and Juventus, but now the 29-year-old is set for his first senior role in Italy. He has issued an emotional message paying tribute to Arsenal for giving him the opportunity to expand on his skills and expressed his gratitude to Arteta for "trusting him after confirming his exit. Cuesta wrote: "After five beautiful years it's hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and values. "It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work with the players, staff, directors and all the employees of the club and at the same time, to receive an extra push from our amazing fans in every match. Enjoy the journey, because it is a very exciting one. Thank you @arsenal." He added about Arteta: "And then, to the person that made it happen. Thank you. That's the only thing I can say. Thank you for your trust, for giving me the opportunity to be next to you and for showing me with constant facts which is the meaning of the word 'courage'. You've taught me a lot, and I will carry it always with me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you." Partey commented on the post to wish Cuesta well, simply writing in response: "Thank you Carlitos," with three heart emojis alongside it. It comes with Partey's own future up in the air as he approaches the end of his contract at Arsenal following five season in north London. Arsenal are set to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as Partey's future continues to grow uncertain, though the club revealed they were holding discussions over a potential new contract before it expires on June 30. The Ghana international has played 167 times for Arsenal since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020, scoring nine times. His manager Arteta said he was in favour of Partey being given a new deal after playing a central role for the Gunners in the 2024-25 season after starting 31 times in the Premier League and 11 times on their run to the Champions League semi-finals. 'Yes. I think consistency-wise it's been his best season," Arteta said. "The way he's played, performed, his availability, has been exceptional and he's a really important player for us." Carlos Cuesta says goodbye to Arsenal
Parma bound Spaniard leaves after five influential years under Arteta Photo byCarlos Cuesta has confirmed his departure from Arsenal, ending a five-year spell as one of Mikel Arteta's most trusted lieutenants to take over as head coach at Parma. Advertisement The 29-year-old Spaniard will become the youngest manager in Serie A history since the league adopted a single division in 1929. Cuesta's move comes after Cristian Chivu's exit and is understood to have been personally driven by Parma president Kyle Krause, who has prioritised recruiting progressive coaches with tactical clarity and developmental focus. Cuesta fits that brief, despite never having held a senior managerial role before. Final details of his contract are expected to be confirmed imminently, with local reports suggesting a two-year deal worth just under £850,000 per season has already been agreed. Taking to Instagram to bid farewell, Cuesta wrote, 'After five beautiful years it's hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and values. Photo by'The only thing I've ever tried to do was give everything I had inside of me every single day. I was inspired by the culture that was created, by the hunger of every person of the organisation and by the unity that we had in any situation that we had to face. Advertisement 'It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work with the players, staff, directors and all the employees of the club and at the same time, to receive an extra push from our amazing fans in every match. 'Because of the quality of its people, I'm convinced that the best moments for this football club are still yet to come. Enjoy the journey, because it is a very exciting one. Thank you Arsenal.' Highly rated for his communication, tactical detail and work ethic, Cuesta joined Arsenal in 2020 after spells with Atlético Madrid and Juventus's under-17 side. He is fluent in six languages and has long been viewed as a future head coach, both inside Arsenal and beyond. Photo bySources close to the negotiation say Parma's chief executive Federico Cherubini and sporting director Alessandro Pettina were impressed during initial discussions and backed Cuesta's candidacy after a series of interviews. The club's hierarchy believe the methods developed at Arsenal under Arteta are transferable to a Parma side aiming for stability and upward momentum in Serie A. Cuesta will be expected to implement a possession-oriented style focused on youth development, mirroring many of the principles he helped instil in North London. His appointment follows a precedent set when Krause hired Enzo Maresca directly from Manchester City's bench in 2021. That project lasted just four months, but Parma appear more confident in Cuesta's fit and long-term potential.
