Hun Manet Briefs Anwar On Cambodia-Thai Border Dispute

PHNOM PENH, June 6 (Bernama) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said today that he had discussed the ongoing border tension with Thailand with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Manet in his Facebook posting said he explained the Kingdom's position related to the Cambodia-Thailand border to Anwar during a phone conversation.

'Cambodia adheres to the principle of maintaining peace, friendship, and good cooperation with Thailand.
'Cambodia's decision to refer Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Tauch Temple, Ta Krabei Temple and Mom Bei areas to the International Court of Justice is to seek an early, peaceful and permanent solution to the border issue in these areas rather than to prolong the uncertainty which can lead to renewed armed conflicts,' said Manet.
Border dispute between both the neighbours was triggered after a Cambodian soldier was killed following a clash with Thai troops in Preah Vihear province on May 28.
He further added that the Kingdom continues to cooperate with Thailand to expedite the demarcation and delimitation of the border (except the four areas mentioned above) through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JBC).
The joint commission meeting is scheduled for June 14 in Phnom Penh.
'Cambodia continues to maintain relations between the two countries through all existing mechanisms for the mutual benefit of the two peoples,' he told Anwar, who is the chair of ASEAN this year.

ISTANBUL: Russia is ready to assist Iran in various ways amid the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, depending on Tehran's needs, the Kremlin said on Monday. "Iran was repeatedly discussed between Putin and Trump during their recent conversations, but the Russian president was not informed of Sunday's strikes. "We believe that the fate of a country's leadership should be decided by its own people — not by third countries or their leaders," he said, in response to a question about Trump's remarks regarding regime change in Iran. He added that the US strikes would not affect dialogue between Moscow and Washington, as these were "independent processes". "It remains to be seen what happened to these nuclear facilities, and whether there is a radiation hazard. Although the IAEA has said there are currently no signs of radiation contamination, these developments are, of course, cause for legitimate concern," Peskov said. — BERNAMA

PM Anwar, President Lee Agree To Strengthen Malaysia-S. Korea Bilateral Ties
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung have agreed to strengthen bilateral ties between Malaysia and South Korea. Anwar said the relationship between the two nations, which was elevated to a strategic partnership during his visit to Seoul in November last year, will continue to be comprehensively advanced across several areas, including peace and security, defence, economy, education and tourism, as well as regional and global cooperation. 'South Korea is Malaysia's eighth-largest trading partner, with trade exceeding US$20 billion (US$1 = RM4.29) for three consecutive years. I expressed Malaysia's commitment to concluding the Malaysia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (MKFTA) negotiations this year,' he said in a post on the X platform today. Anwar, who contacted Lee this morning, also took the opportunity to congratulate him and the Democratic Party on their victory in the recent presidential election. 'I conveyed my confidence in his leadership to steer (South) Korea into this new phase,' he said.
