Each June, the royal family gathers at Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Color, a centuries-old tradition steeped in pageantry and national pride. This grand event brings together nearly all senior members of the monarchy in a vibrant display of unity, all to honor the legacy of one central figure: the reigning monarch. But the event is more than just a parade, here's why.
Trooping the Color is a ceremonial event performed every year on Horse Guards Parade in London, United Kingdom, by regiments of the Household Division to celebrate the official birthday of the British sovereign. However, the event is not actually held on the ruler's birthday.
Typically, the event is held in June due to the chance of good weather. Thousands show up to support the royal family and to watch the pageantry they are famous for.
However, Trooping the Color is more than just a birthday parade. Per Hello! it is filled with activities such as a procession down the Mall, including the royal family and the Household Cavalry, a 41-gun salute to mark the King's official birthday, and a Royal Air Force flypast.

It features the royal family in a positive light as they participate in the aforementioned events and interact with the public. This year, King Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles will attend, as well as Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie will also be in attendance as will Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy James Hamilton Laurence.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh are expected to ride on horseback in the procession, alongside the Princess Royal as they did in 2024. Charles will travel down the Mall in a carriage with Camilla as he continues to receive treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.
The king's second son, and his wife, , will not be in attendance during this family event. The last time the couple appeared alongside other members of the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony was in 2019. They left the royal family in 2020 amid growing tensions between the couple and other senior royals.
Trooping the Color has taken place for over 200 years. The event will be held on Saturday, June 14 in London, England.

Sexual assault and drink driving – cosy crime but not as we know it
A puzzle-setter turns sleuth in a quirky British crime series. Stop me if you think you've heard this one before. Murder Most Puzzling is trying to be Ludwig, which was a hit for the BBC last year. But it's a pale imitation. While that one was a five-star treat starring David Mitchell, this one is a two-star rip-off starring Phyllis Logan. The missteps start as soon as we are introduced to her character, Cora Felton. Cora is The Puzzle Lady, a crossword compiler whose job has made her so famous that she has her own range of biscuits and TV adverts. Let's not pause to ponder how unlikely that is. She is called in to investigate the case of a young woman found murdered in a churchyard, with a mysterious crossword clue in her pocket. Unfortunately, Cora can't make head nor tail of the clue when she first sees it because she's still sozzled from the night before. When we first meet her, she is passed out at the wheel of her car after a spot of drink-driving. Drink-driving? Really? We're supposed to find this quirkily amusing, but it strikes the wrong tone right away. It's a sign that the show doesn't quite know what it's supposed to be. This is cosy crime, yet having someone at a town hall meeting ask if the murder victim was sexually assaulted belongs in a grittier police drama. At least the mystery is wrapped up in a feature-length episode rather than being dragged out. The show is based on a book series by Parnell Hall and the failings of the TV series are odd because its writer, Dominique Moloney is a veteran of Father Brown and The Sister Boniface Mysteries. Some bits do conform to the cosy crime template: jaunty music, a picturesque setting in the fictional market town of Bakerbury (it's Lisburn in Northern Ireland), and the odd silly character, such as the blustering mayor in a cravat who runs the local police force. The programme's saving graces are the three lead performances. Logan, best known as Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey, is a safe pair of hands and does her best with the material. Charlotte Hope is a bright spot as Cara's niece and right-hand-woman, Sherry. And Adam Best is, well, the best thing here as DCI Derek Hooper, who has never worked a murder case before and reluctantly turns to Cora for help. There is a twist halfway through relating to Cora's job, and if you didn't see it coming then I'm afraid your sleuthing skills are a little below par. Chris Brown pleads not guilty in London nightclub assault case
June 20 (UPI) -- R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty Friday to assault charges related to an act of violence at a London nightclub. Brown entered the plea at Southwark Crown Court in London, and the judge then adjourned the arraignment, which moves the next step of the case to July before a trial set for October of 2026. Brown allegedly attacked music producer Abraham Diaw in February of 2023 with a bottle of tequila at Tape nightclub in London. He was arrested in May on charges related to the incident of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and was then held in custody for almost a week before being released on $6.7 million bail. Co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, who performs under the name HoodyBaby, also pleaded not guilty Friday at the court to a charge of attempted grievous bodily harm in the same case. Under conditions of his bail, Brown must reside in the United Kingdom until his trial, and had his passport confiscated by police. The bail conditions do allow him to tour and perform, meaning he can have his passport for travel to shows. The Grammy Award-winning musician is currently taking part in his Breezy Bowl XX world tour and performed Sunday night in the British city of Manchester, at which he reportedly acknowledged fans for their support before also thanking the jail where he was held. After several days of public appearances including Trooping the Colour, Kate Middleton was scheduled to appear at the Royal Ascot on June 18 alongside Prince William and other members of the royal family. But she skipped the event at the last minute despite being on the official "carriage list"—a decision that apparently threw the palace into a "panic." A former courtier who's in touch with the current "serving staff" at the palace tells the Daily Beast, "Everyone was wandering around going, 'What is going on?' One minute she was going, and the next she wasn't. This is one of the biggest days of the year in the royal calendar; you don't just miss Ascot on a whim, so there was a real sense of panic. The chaotic nature of the announcement was eerily reminiscent of the dark days of last year. People were bewildered and worried." There were even rumors around the palace about Kate's health, though a friend of hers tells the outlet "My understanding is that Kate was basically exhausted after Trooping the Color on Saturday and Garter Day on Monday and couldn't face it. There are good days and bad days, as she herself has very candidly said." Meanwhile, source tells the Daily Mail that Kate was "disappointed" to miss the event, but has "to find the right balance as she fully returns to public-facing engagements." They also said she was never meant to be on the "carriage list," explaining "Unfortunately, an inaccurate version of the carriage list was issued in error after that notification. The correct list was then circulated." Another friend told the outlet, "Catherine knows she should not overdo things. She is grateful that her recovery has gone well, but things have not been plain sailing. She had a busy day at Trooping the Colour at the weekend and, if she's feeling slightly under the weather, it's better that she takes it easy."
