Striving for party only criteria to get Assembly tickets, Lalu Prasad tells RJD workers
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad on Thursday (June 19, 2025) promised party workers and leaders that those working hard for the party with honesty would be made candidates in the coming Bihar Assembly elections.
His son and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also said party leaders must focus on the ground instead of making rounds in Patna to get Assembly ticket.

The occasion was the State council meeting of the RJD in Patna's Gyan Bhavan where veteran socialist leader Mangani Lal Mandal was officially elected new State president.
'Hardly any time is left for the Assembly election in Bihar; do not wait any more and jump into the election. Those who are working hard for the party, I will ensure that they are made the candidates to contest Assembly elections,' Mr. Prasad said.
Most of the senior leaders of the party were present, including his wife Rabri Devi, national vice-president Uday Narayan Choudhary, national principal general secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Lok Sabha member Misa Bharti, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Yadav and others.
Mr. Prasad asserted, 'People have to take pledge to throw out RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh] and Nitish Kumar to make Tejashwi Yadav Chief Minister of Bihar. There would be people who may criticise Tejashwi but do not listen to them and ensure that at any cost Tejashwi becomes Chief Minister.'
Praising his son, Mr. Prasad said he had been continuously working to unite the party and taking along all sections of people.

'On July 5, the RJD will complete 28 years of its formation. It is the duty of every party worker to make the RJD stronger. Go to the field, respect and ensure that RJD leaves a mark in everyone's heart,' Mr. Prasad said.
He also congratulated Mr. Mandal, who has replaced Jagdanand Singh who served the post for two terms, as State president of the party.
The RJD had State presidents from Scheduled Caste, Muslims, Backward Class and forward class in the past but for the first time the party has made a State president from the EBC community.
'Leave the ticket-related issues to the party supremo, he will take care of it,' Mr. Yadav said.
The former Deputy Chief Minister also slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, reiterating that he was no longer bothered about the people of Bihar and only thinks about his chair.
Ms. Devi, without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took a dig at him on the issue of dynasty politics.
'People who live alone talk about nepotism. One who lives alone does not know about family. Whatever Tejashwi has decided, we are with him. The whole Bihar family is ours. Let people abuse us, we all must stay united. The media does not see the negative work of the present government, when something used to happen in our regime, the media used to show it for a month. However, when Lalu ji and Tejashwi eat Sattu (gram powder), people make fun of them,' Ms. Devi said.

'Don't Make Excuses...': Omar Abdullah Takes Swipe At Ally Congress Over EVM Charge
Last Updated: He also took a swipe at the INDIA bloc, pointing out that the alliance's leaders have not held a single meeting since the conclusion of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday took a sharp swipe at the INDIA bloc ally Congress over its allegations against the Election Commission, saying that excuses shouldn't be made when someone doesn't succeed in elections. After the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Congress party repeatedly criticised the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), alleging irregularities and a lack of transparency in the electoral process. 'So what you hear from the Congress in terms of its reservations about the process of elections, this is all the Congress's own point of view. I don't share it. I don't share it simply because I'm not given to making excuses for things that I don't succeed at," said Abdullah during an interview with The Economic Times. 'If I have a problem with election results, then I need to have it when I've won as well. My party did better than we expected in the October assembly elections. Nobody expected us to get this number of seats," the Chief Minister remarked. Omar Abdullah delivers a reality check to Congress for attacking the Election Commission:'Don't make excuses for things you don't succeed at."'I got more seats than anyone expected. If I don't have a problem with how elections are conducted when I win, I can't have a problem… — Amit Malviya (@amitmalviya) June 20, 2025 Recently, the Congress leaders questioned the credibility of the EVM system and demanded a return to ballot papers or the implementation of stricter safeguards. The party also called for an all-party discussion on electoral reforms to restore voter confidence. 'So if I don't have a problem with the way elections are conducted when I win, I certainly can't have a problem with the way elections are conducted because I've lost," Abdullah said. He also took a swipe at the INDIA bloc, pointing out that the alliance's leaders have not held a single meeting since the conclusion of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP's Sukanta Majumdar Writes To Amit Shah Flagging 'Threat To Life' Over Attack
Last Updated: Sukanta Majumdar said Diamond Harbour Police DSP Rahul Goswami was physically present at the spot but "failed to take any preventive or protective action" Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Friday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging a 'grave breach of privilege" and a 'threat to life" following an alleged attack on his convoy in the Budge Budge area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district a day earlier. Majumdar, who is also the BJP's West Bengal unit president, was visiting the area on Thursday to meet party workers who were reportedly injured after being attacked outside the Budge Budge-1 BDO office on Wednesday. His visit triggered tensions in the area, where TMC supporters allegedly surrounded his convoy, raised slogans, and pelted it with stones. In a letter written to the Speaker under Rule 222 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha, Majumdar, the Balurghat MP, described the attack as a serious threat not only to his life but also to the safety of those accompanying him. In another letter written to Shah on Friday evening, Majumdar drew his attention to the 'highly alarming and deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal, specifically in Diamond Harbour area which has witnessed continuous political violence targetting elected representatives and party workers." 'On June 19, during my official visit to meet victims of earlier assaults and assess the situation on ground, my convoy was attacked by a violent mob reportedly comprising TMC workers, stones were pelted, vehicles were vandalised and several individuals accompanying me sustained injuries… The attack posed a serious threat to my life and those in my entourage," Majumdar wrote in the letter to Shah. 'The attack posed a direct and serious threat to my life and the lives of those present," the letter said. 'This constitutes not only a collapse of law and order but also a direct assault on the dignity and security of a Union minister and an MP," he added. Majumdar said Diamond Harbour Police District Superintendent of Police Rahul Goswami was physically present at the spot but 'failed to take any preventive or protective action," which the minister termed as 'wilful negligence" and 'dereliction of duty." He also noted that the SDPO of Diamond Harbour was absent from the scene despite prior intimation of his scheduled visit. 'The situation was brought under control only due to the timely intervention of CISF personnel assigned to me as I have Z category security cover provided by the Union government," Majumdar wrote. 'As a consequence, I have submitted a notice of Breach of Privilege under Rule 222 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha to the Speaker," he informed Shah. Majumdar said while on his way to visit Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee's house in Kolkata to offer floral tributes on Paschim Banga Divas he was planning to visit the ailing mother of London-based doctor Rajatshubhra Bandyopadhyay but personnel from West Bengal police attempted to prevent him from proceeding. 'In light of the above, I earnestly request your urgent intervention to address the alarming law and order situation in West Bengal, particularly in politically sensitive regions like Diamond Harbour by initiating an immediate review of the prevailing conditions, deploying central paramilitary forces to restore peace and ensure the safety of elected representatives and ordering a prompt inquiry to hold accountable the concerned district officials whose dereliction of duty and inaction enabled such a grave security lapse," he said. In his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Majumdar called the incident at Budge Budge an 'assault on the dignity and privilege of a Member of Parliament", Majumdar urged the Speaker to treat the matter as contempt of the House and refer it to the Committee of Privileges for appropriate action. 'This incident not only endangered the life of a public representative but also constitutes a direct assault on the dignity and privilege of a Member of Parliament. 'Such acts of violence and inaction by state officials severely compromise the democratic functioning of our institutions and the constitutional rights granted to elected members of this House," the letter stated. The BJP leader also took to social media to express his outrage. 'Yesterday in Budge Budge, Diamond Harbour, I was subjected to a brutal, orchestrated attack by TMC-backed criminal mobs, while the @WBPolice stood as mute, spineless spectators. 'The police not only failed to act during the violence, they also failed to take any preventive action, despite clear signs of escalating tension. Even when a Union Minister of State and sitting Member of Parliament was targeted, the state machinery looked the other way," Majumdar posted on X, attaching a copy of his letter to the Speaker. 'This is a grave breach of parliamentary privilege… a direct and dangerous assault on Indian democracy. Today, I have formally apprised Hon'ble Speaker Shri @ombirlakota ji of this shocking breakdown of law and order in West Bengal," he added. Govt probes surge in foreign-linked Fb accounts ahead of polls
1 2 Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the govt has initiated a forensic audit of about 5,000 Facebook accounts activated in the last one month, raising concerns over a surge in foreign-linked accounts, which he alleges are being used to destabilize Assam and influence its political discourse. Sarma said a detailed forensic study was conducted on 2,092 accounts, revealing that a significant number of these were primarily operated from Islamic nations. Sarma said among the audited Facebook profiles, 618 were from Bangladesh, 236 from Pakistan, 88 from Kuwait, 54 from France, 35 from Afghanistan, 16 from Indonesia, 10 from Jordan, eight from Iraq, six each from Brazil and Egypt, four each from Germany and Albania, three from Italy, two each from Australia and Palestine and one each from Canada, Colombia and Libya. Sarma said these accounts share Islamic fundamentalist content, including pro-Palestine material, Iran-related posts, and content about Bangladesh's chief advisor Prof Md Yunus. He added that the central govt has been notified about this situation, describing it as a matter of "national security". Sarma added that these accounts also have been exclusively monitoring the activities of a specific Assam Congress leader and the party's state unit pages during the past month. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере! They are only focused on a particular leader and the Assam Congress," Sarma said. "For the first time, there is so much foreign involvement in Assam politics in the run-up to the 2026 assembly elections," he said. "Some accounts are private, and deeper investigations are required. It is a serious security concern that over 5,000 social media accounts were opened in a month, and they are commenting and liking posts related to Assam," he added. Sarma said some individuals from outside have rented accommodation in two Guwahati localities and have established connections with YouTubers and social media influencers for this purpose. "Surveillance is being kept on them. Fundamentalist elements have entered Assam and are active in the run-up to the elections," he said. He added that these account holders might be connected via WhatsApp and other messaging applications, as they operate from different time zones and receive alerts about fundamentalist content. He added that Assam's Muslims, whether indigenous or settled migrants, would not share such content. He said Assam and the northeast have consistently been targets of international fundamentalism, with separating the 'chicken neck' to integrate it with Bangladesh remaining an 'unfinished agenda' for extremists. "We are in a very critical situation and the entire matter is being looked into from the national security angle," Sarma said.
