At Bihar Rally, PM Modi Attacks Lalu Yadav For Allegedly Insulting BR Ambedkar
Siwan (Bihar): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a pointed attack on RJD president Lalu Prasad over the alleged insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar during the former Bihar chief minister's birthday celebrations recently. PM Modi, who did not mention Lalu Prasad by name, referred to the instance of a portrait of Ambedkar being placed close to the feet of the ailing septuagenarian, for which he (Prasad) has been drawing flak from the BJP-led NDA. "Ambedkar was against dynasty rule. But they (RJD and its allies) do not like it. So they have his portrait placed at their feet. On my way, I saw posters demanding an apology for this insult to Babasaheb", remarked PM Modi, while addressing a rally in Siwan district of Bihar. He added, "But there has been no apology. This is because they hold Dalits in contempt. In contrast, Modi has Babasaheb in his heart and would like to keep his portrait close to his chest". According to the RJD, the controversy had arisen because of "camera angle" at Mr Prasad's residence while celebrations of his 78th birthday were underway earlier this month. The party has claimed that Mr Prasad had his feet on a sofa because of "medical advice", and a supporter stood close carrying the portrait of the Dalit icon. The RJD supremo's younger son and heir apparent has struck a defiant note when asked whether it would not be appropriate for his father to tender an apology. "There was no insult to Ambedkar at our place. And has Union Home Minister Amit Shah apologised till now?", Mr Yadav had recently shot back in response to queries, referring to the months old episode involving a speech by the former BJP president inside Parliament. Meanwhile, the state commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to Mr Prasad, warning him of legal action if a satisfactory reply is not received within the stipulated time. The BJP, which takes on the RJD in the Assembly polls due in a few months, has been almost on a war path, burning effigies of the former CM and submitting a memorandum to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. Mr Prasad's behaviour has also drawn flak from national leaders like Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, besides BJP allies like Chirag Paswan, a Dalit leader who heads Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

On Rahul Gandhi's b'day, Jagga Reddy extends `10 lakh assistance to a cancer patient
Hyderabad: To mark senior party leader and the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's birthday, TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy on Thursday extended Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to a cancer patient, Hari Krishna Prasad, of Thallapalli village in Sangareddy constituency. Prasad has been suffering from cancer for some time now. As he comes from a poor family, Reddy provided aid for his full treatment. As Prasad was earning just Rs 13,000 per month and could not afford a costly battle against cancer, the Congress leader came forward to support Prasad, who works as an employee in a Gurukula school. He has a wife, Shailaja, a daughter studying in LKG, and a son in first grade. Prasad was diagnosed with cancer three months ago. His family has already spent lakhs on treatment. With no money left for further medical expenses, the family was left helpless. Reddy came to know about Prasad's situation through his followers. Moved by the plight, Reddy volunteered to bear the complete cost of the treatment. He handed over Rs 10 lakh assistance to the patient on Thursday. Reddy reassured Prasad and his family of his support and encouraged them to stay strong. He also promised to facilitate help through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to cover the treatment expenses incurred so far. Prasad's family expressed heartfelt gratitude for Reddy's support.

Striving for party only criteria to get Assembly tickets, Lalu Prasad tells RJD workers
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad on Thursday (June 19, 2025) promised party workers and leaders that those working hard for the party with honesty would be made candidates in the coming Bihar Assembly elections. His son and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also said party leaders must focus on the ground instead of making rounds in Patna to get Assembly ticket. Also Read | Lalu Prasad expels elder son Tej Pratap Yadav from party and family for 'irresponsible behaviour' The occasion was the State council meeting of the RJD in Patna's Gyan Bhavan where veteran socialist leader Mangani Lal Mandal was officially elected new State president. 'Hardly any time is left for the Assembly election in Bihar; do not wait any more and jump into the election. Those who are working hard for the party, I will ensure that they are made the candidates to contest Assembly elections,' Mr. Prasad said. Most of the senior leaders of the party were present, including his wife Rabri Devi, national vice-president Uday Narayan Choudhary, national principal general secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Lok Sabha member Misa Bharti, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Yadav and others. Mr. Prasad asserted, 'People have to take pledge to throw out RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh] and Nitish Kumar to make Tejashwi Yadav Chief Minister of Bihar. There would be people who may criticise Tejashwi but do not listen to them and ensure that at any cost Tejashwi becomes Chief Minister.' Praising his son, Mr. Prasad said he had been continuously working to unite the party and taking along all sections of people. Also Read | People of Bihar will decide from which seat I should contest Assembly polls: Chirag Paswan 'On July 5, the RJD will complete 28 years of its formation. It is the duty of every party worker to make the RJD stronger. Go to the field, respect and ensure that RJD leaves a mark in everyone's heart,' Mr. Prasad said. He also congratulated Mr. Mandal, who has replaced Jagdanand Singh who served the post for two terms, as State president of the party. The RJD had State presidents from Scheduled Caste, Muslims, Backward Class and forward class in the past but for the first time the party has made a State president from the EBC community. 'Leave the ticket-related issues to the party supremo, he will take care of it,' Mr. Yadav said. The former Deputy Chief Minister also slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, reiterating that he was no longer bothered about the people of Bihar and only thinks about his chair. Ms. Devi, without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took a dig at him on the issue of dynasty politics. 'People who live alone talk about nepotism. One who lives alone does not know about family. Whatever Tejashwi has decided, we are with him. The whole Bihar family is ours. Let people abuse us, we all must stay united. The media does not see the negative work of the present government, when something used to happen in our regime, the media used to show it for a month. However, when Lalu ji and Tejashwi eat Sattu (gram powder), people make fun of them,' Ms. Devi said.

Greens raise concerns over UVCE's new academic block in bio park
BENGALURU: The biodiversity park at the Jnanabharathi Campus of Bangalore University (BU) is under threat as parts of the park are set to be demolished for building an academic block for University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), the state's first autonomus institute on IIT model. Now, an online campaign has been launched against construction activity in the area. UVCE is set to claim 52 acres of land which is under BU. 'Acres of land are being given to to multiple institutions and agencies, disrupting the biodiversity park and we have always protested against it and now history is repeating,' said TJ Renuka Prasad, an environmentalist who was part of building the bio park. Home to a variety of flora and fauna, environmentalists refer to it as the 'lungs' of Bengalureans. 'We have planted around 30 acres with the Western Ghats species. It's a reserve of many sandalwood trees. There are 175 species of birds and demolishing such a space will have a huge impact to the ecology of Bengaluru,' said Prasad.
