Information pavilion showcasing State govt. achievements in two years inaugurated

Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Sharan Prakash Patil inaugurated an information pavilion at the Kalaburagi Central Bus Stand on Wednesday for showcasing the achievements of the State government in the last two years.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Patil said that the government has implemented the five pre-poll guarantee schemes with the objective of strengthening the lives of the beneficiaries.
'The opposition should stop making baseless allegations and recognise the reality. These schemes have brought hope and security to the people of Karnataka,' he claimed.
The pavilion, organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations, provides comprehensive information on the government's performance in agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, housing and the welfare of marginalised communities in the last two years.
It also features testimonials from beneficiaries, financial details and highlights the positive impact of the five guarantee schemes.
'Pragatiyatta Karnataka' (Progressing Karnataka), the theme of the exhibit, is supported by messages from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Dr. Patil has appealed to the people to visit and explore the pavilion.
Responding to a question about delays in disbursing the monthly ₹2,000 under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, Dr. Patil clarified a delay of 10-15 days did not imply that the scheme has failed.
'The government has to function with financial constraints. We have implemented the schemes effectively for two years and we will continue to do it over the remaining three,' he added.
Vice-president of the State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, S.R. Mehroz Khan said that the guarantee schemes are rooted in the ideals of Basavanna, Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar. He commended the Department of Information and Public Relations for providing such a unique and accessible platform to educate the public.
A brochure highlighting the progress of the five guarantee schemes was distributed to the public on the occasion.
Open till June 10
The pavilion will remain open to the public until June 10. Visitors can view the exhibits between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
Several dignitaries, including District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority chairperson Chandrika Parameshwari, vice-president Somashekhara Hiremath, Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Taranum, Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa, Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhanwar Singh Meena, KKRTC Managing Director M. Rachappa, D.K. Rajaratna and Ravi Miraskar, and officials from the Department of Information and Public Relations were present during the event.

NAVI MUMBAI: With the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport drawing near, tensions are rising among the project-affected persons (PAPs) over the delay in naming the airport after their long-time leader, Dinkar Balu Patil. Members of the Agri-Koli community, the Project Affected Persons (PAP), whose land and livelihoods were affected by the massive infrastructure project, have issued a firm ultimatum - name the airport after D B Patil by June 24 or face renewed agitation. The airport - now over 90% complete - has already begun signing agreements with airlines in anticipation of operations beginning within a few months. However, despite repeated assurances and resolutions passed at the state level, the Union government has not officially confirmed the airport's name. The issue first flared up when the Uddhav Thackeray-led government proposed naming the airport after Bal Thackeray. Facing severe backlash from PAPs and community leaders, the administration eventually relented. The succeeding Mahayuti government passed a resolution to name the airport after D B Patil in its very first cabinet meeting. The resolution was cleared by both houses of the state legislature and forwarded to the Centre. Despite these moves, the absence of a formal announcement from the central government has intensified suspicion and frustration among PAP leaders. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site in early 2024, and when former civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia arrived a day after, neither addressed the naming demand. Although Union minister of state for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol assured in October 2024 that the airport would soon be named after Patil, the promise has yet to materialise. 'We don't see our issues being prioritised,' said Dashrath Patil, president of the Loknete D B Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport All Party Action Committee. 'The airport is nearly ready, but the name is still a question mark. We've appealed to the chief minister and deputy CMs. If no action is taken by June 24, we'll escalate our agitation.' A massive car and bike rally involving thousands of PAPs is being organised for June 24 as a tribute to Patil as well as a show of strength. 'The rally will be our way of showing how strongly we feel about this. If the government continues to ignore us, we'll make our protest louder,' said Nilesh Patil of the Agri-Koli Youth Foundation. The sentiment is echoed by many in the region, who feel marginalised in key decisions, including the naming of the recently inaugurated Atal Setu bridge. 'We've been sidelined in every major project,' said Jagdish Gaikwad, former Panvel deputy mayor. 'If there's no name, there will be no flight. That's our stand.' Bhushan Patil, another PAP leader, accused the government of making empty promises. 'Even the boards with Patil's name were removed. We're being disrespected,' he said. However, BJP MLA Prashant Thakur has assured the community that the naming will happen. 'Several meetings have taken place with the CM and central ministers. The union civil aviation minister has said the name will be finalised once the airport is ready. We are confident that the announcement will come,' he said.

Minister writes to CM on apathy over illegal mining cases

Bengaluru/Raichur: Law Minister H K Patil on Saturday said he had written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressing concerns over administration apathy towards taking illegal mining cases in the state to a logical end. He also wanted the culprits to be punished, and the lost wealth recovered. The senior minister, who is also in-charge of Parliamentary Affairs, has written a seven-page letter dated June 18, pointing out that only 7.6 per cent of all the cases related to illegal mining that allegedly took place between 2007 and 2011 leading to the loss of an estimated Rs 1.5 lakh crore to the government, have been investigated so far. In the letter he noted that there is outrage among people that the government has not shown honesty and commitment in its efforts towards ensuring commensurate punishments and recovery of the state's wealth, despite such a large-scale loot. He also reminded Siddaramaiah that he had led a 320-km foot march to Ballari against the illegal mining scam in 2010, when the Congress was in opposition. Patil had headed the Cabinet sub-committee, during the first Siddaramaiah-led Congress government (2013-18), which had brought the extent of loss caused by illegal mining. In Raichur, replying to questions by reporters regarding the letter, Patil said, '...I have brought it to the notice of the chief minister what has to be done, thereby it has to serve the state and the government has to get a good name, so the letter has been written. It is not a political letter. It is written in the interest of the state and its people. The CM has seen the letter and has taken the matter seriously.' Asked whether he is suspicious that documents on illegalities may be destroyed, he said with the intention that such things should not happen. He has cautioned the administration and the concerned department. Noting that the Congress party has done a padayatre (foot march) against illegal mining fifteen years ago, the minister said, despite so many years and inspite of cabinet sub-committee under 2013-18 Siddaramaiah-led Congress government submitting a report about the quantum of loss, the action taken is not satisfactory. 'Out of more than 12,000 illegal mining cases being registered, only about 7 per cent have been investigated. In just 2 per cent of these seven per cent, which means in only 0.2 per cent of the total number of cases, verdicts have come and cases have seen a conclusion,' he said. Asserting that a logical end has to be given to all these pending cases, Patil said the government lost Rs 1.5 lakh crore because of illegal mining, and with the intention that serious steps are taken in this regard, he has written a letter to the CM. He said nine cases were handed over for the CBI probe. They said they will probe only three among them and sent back the remaining six. Similarly, the cases that were referred to the Special investigation Team (SIT), most of them have still not been subjected to probe. 'So I have written the letter.' Patil, in his letter, has said that the government can still act as there is still time. Asking the government to take all the necessary measures, he suggested appointing a Recovery Commissioner as per the provisions of the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1946. He has also sought the creation of a new SIT to take up investigation of cases that have not been probed, and setting up a special court to try these cases.
