Mohd Khalid officially takes helm as Malaysia's 15th IGP
KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail officially began his duties today as the 15th Inspector-General of Police (IGP), taking over from Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who has retired.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) announced that Mohd Khalid arrived at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman in an official vehicle and received a 'Guard Turn Out' honour from the Camp Commandant Branch, signaling the start of a new era in the force's top leadership.
According to PDRM, he was greeted by Management Director Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, and acting Commercial Crime Investigation Department Director Datuk Seri Sri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali upon his arrival.
'Mohd Khalid was then escorted to the 31st floor to sign his appointment document as a symbolic start to his duties.
'The ceremony was also graced with a prayer led by Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department Deputy Director (Religion and Counselling), Datuk Azhan Abdul Halim,' the PDRM stated in a Facebook post. — Bernama

ISTANBUL: Russia is ready to assist Iran in various ways amid the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, depending on Tehran's needs, the Kremlin said on Monday. "Iran was repeatedly discussed between Putin and Trump during their recent conversations, but the Russian president was not informed of Sunday's strikes. "We believe that the fate of a country's leadership should be decided by its own people — not by third countries or their leaders," he said, in response to a question about Trump's remarks regarding regime change in Iran. He added that the US strikes would not affect dialogue between Moscow and Washington, as these were "independent processes". "It remains to be seen what happened to these nuclear facilities, and whether there is a radiation hazard. Although the IAEA has said there are currently no signs of radiation contamination, these developments are, of course, cause for legitimate concern," Peskov said. — BERNAMA

1,500 offensive posts involving children identified since January, says MCMC

In a joint statement today, they said 94% (1,414) of the posts were taken down thanks to public complaints and cooperation between MCMC and digital platform providers. 'MCMC and the police's sexual, women and child investigation division emphasise their commitment to curbing crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children via constant enforcement and education,' they said. They said daily monitoring and operations such as Op Pedo also saw the arrests of 13 people for offences related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and the seizure of 40,000 pieces of CSAM in December 2024. On Dec 23, former inspector-general of police Razarudin Husain said 13 men were arrested in six states on suspicion of committing online sexual offences involving CSAM. He said the suspects, aged between 20 and 74, were arrested at 18 locations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor, Perak and Terengganu. Last Thursday, Bukit Aman said a university student was arrested under Op Pedo on April 29 for allegedly possessing 5,000 photos and videos of child and adult pornography. Siti Kamsiah Hassan, principal assistant director of Bukit Aman's sexual, women and child investigation division, said some of the materials were home-made, involving the student's two young cousins, aged four and nine.
