Harry and Meghan 'axe four key staff members' as 'another change' looms

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly axed four key staff members while revamping their team. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have parted ways with their LA-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and UK press officer Charlie Gipson. Both of them were hired in April 2024.
Two other members of the couple's private team have reportedly also left in recent weeks. The changes come after Harry and Meghan appointed a new team, headed by chief communication officer (CCO) Meredith Maines, earlier this year. Meredith confirmed her team is now made up of eight people working across five different time zones.
Harry and Meghan also recently hired Emily Robinson, who previously oversaw global publicity for The Crown from seasons three to six, as their new director of communications.
Season six of the hit Netflix drama programme aired controversial storylines which included Prince Harry wearing Nazi fancy dress, Princess Diana's Panorama interview, and scenes depicting Diana as a ghost speaking to Queen Elizabeth II. A source has now claimed more changes could be in the works for the couple, who stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and now live in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The source told Hello! Magazine: "Something tells me there will be another change in the future. Meghan and Harry have hired some of the most incredible people at the top of their fields, yet somehow none of them ever work out."
Following reports of changes within the Sussexes' team, their CCO Meredith said in a statement shared with The Mirror: "As the Duke and Duchess's business and philanthropic interests grow, I have made the strategic decision to move toward a more traditional communications structure of specialist agency support, as previously reported in Forbes and PR Week several weeks ago. Transitioning from a team of two to an agency support staff of eight, operating across five different time zones, will give international media and stakeholders better access, and critically, faster response times to inquiries."
Earlier this week we reported that Meghan was due to attend a charity event in Los Angeles tomorrow, but t he bash has been cancelled due to ongoing unrest in the city. The Duchess was scheduled to be the guest of honour at the Museum of Natural History in LA, where she was expected to give a speech about her extensive charity work.
However, as the streets of LA continue to be occupied by protestors facing off against ICE officers, organisers postponed the black-tie Night of Wonder event. Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga, President and Director of the Natural History Museum in LA, said in a statement: "As an institution 'of, for, and with Los Angeles,' our responsibility during challenging times is clear: to serve as a community resource focused on healing and unity, not celebration."
"Los Angeles needs us to channel our energy toward supporting our neighbours and demonstrating the values that make our city and county strong," her statement continued. The statement went on to clarify that the decision to indefinitely postpone the event was made by the museum's Board of Trustees, leadership and event partners, who "unanimously agreed" that pausing the event was "the appropriate response to current community circumstances."
Chief Advancement Officer Paul Bessire added: "We will find a future moment to celebrate our work. Until then, we will channel our energy towards being welcoming spaces for learning and discovery for everyone who walks through our doors." The museum is expected to reschedule the event for a later date, and will continue with their daily operations and educational programs until the event is back in the calendar.

The Princess of Wales has shared an adorable new photo to mark husband Prince William's birthday. The Prince of Wales turns 43 today and to celebrate, the official Kensington Royal account posted a picture of him posing with the family dog Orla - and her new puppies. The black cocker spaniel - gifted to the family by Kate's brother James Middleton in 2020 - recently gave birth to four puppies. The photo of William, Orla and her brood was taken by the Princess in Windsor earlier this month. The caption reads: "Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!" A year ago, William was in a very different place, as wife Kate was still undergoing chemotherapy treatment after her cancer diagnosis. At the same time, his father the King has also been diagnosed with the disease. Not only was he on hand to support them both, but he also proved to be a rock for his three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. He memorably described 2024 as "brutal" and significantly one of the "hardest of his life". But with Kate now in remission, things look different 12 months on as he turns a year older, focus shifts slightly to duty. In the past week, not only has he been at Trooing and Garter Day but also Royal Ascot and carried out a visit alongside actress Cate Blanchett to Colorifix - a Norwich-based company which creates sustainable dye for clothing, and is one of his Earthshot Prize finalists. And former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond tells the Mirror that William is "extremely serious" when it comes to the job that his life has given him. She explained: "As he himself has said, if he can't make some kind of difference, some kind of impact on issues he cares so deeply about – then what is the point of being a prince or of having such a high profile platform? "So, now that the crisis of the past 18 months has eased, he seems to be working pretty much flat out for much of the time, and I'm sure that will continue." But despite his work and duty, there is one thing that always comes first for William as well as wife Kate - family. William is a very hands-on parent, doing the school run and ferrying the kids to their various after-school sports clubs and activities. Putting family first was no more so evident than at Easter earlier this year when he and his family skipped the traditional Easter Sunday church service with the King and Queen at Windsor to spend precious family time together - all with the King's blessing. And even if his schedule may seem busier, Jennie believes this family time is something William will always make a priority. She said: "These years are a period when, without the never-ending state duties of a monarch, he can be allowed to concentrate rather more fully on his wife and children. So I think school holidays will continue to be ring-fenced as much as possible, even if he is criticised for doing so. "You just have to look at the pictures of William and his children released for Father's Day to see how much they adore him and how close they are as a family. This tall, handsome, smiling man is their dad and their protector. And William would never want to put that in any jeopardy." Meghan 'terrified' as Harry's decision over UK return 'sealed'
Threats from 'lunatics' and 'terrorists' will stop Harry and Meghan coming back to the UK, an expert says, but the Duke would have missed his dad on Father's Day The growing distance between Prince Harry and the royal family was highlighted once again at the King's recent birthday celebrations, where the Duke of Sussex was notably absent. At Trooping the Colour – which marks the monarch's official birthday – King Charles celebrated alongside his close family, including wife Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, George, Charlotte and Louis. Sadly, Harry and his family were nowhere to be seen. Following his High Court defeat in May, the Duke of Sussex, 40, revealed that he was hopeful of a reconciliation with his father, but said that wouldn't be possible until he could keep his wife and children 'safe' while in the UK. Now, a royal expert says the chances of Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, becoming regular visitors to the UK and growing close to their cousins is looking increasingly unlikely because of Harry and his wife Meghan Markle 's very valid fears. 'Meghan understandably feels scared about coming to the UK with the children,' says former royal editor Duncan Larcombe. 'The threats are real and genuine. The threat is from lunatics, radical protesters that might want to make a name for themselves by jumping in front of them. Then of course you have the worst type, the terrorist threat. And there's no doubt Harry – and his family, as a result – is a huge target.' While Meghan, 43, appears to be feeling more comfortable sharing her children with the world – with her viral Baby Momma dance video and a Disneyland holiday album posted to her socials – the idea of her returning to the UK with them is another matter. A source has told the Mirror that while the mum-of-two is feeling more empowered today, it doesn't alter her safety worries. 'In some ways she's feeling stronger and she wants to share that,' our insider said. 'But she's still terrified of putting her kids at risk by coming back to the UK – any parent would panic if they were in Meghan's shoes. 'So even though Harry is really feeling the absence of his dad, especially after Trooping the Colour and Father's Day, the security stuff will probably always be an issue. 'He knows that things could've been so different if things had gone another way, but it's been five years since they left the UK and the chances of them coming back, even for a visit, seem slim to none. It's heartbreaking.' During his controversial interview with the BBC in May, Harry revealed he 'would love reconciliation' with his family. And our expert believes it's highly likely the Prince now wishes recent events had taken a different course. 'Harry is a sensitive soul and always wore his heart on his sleeve, so whether he'd admit it publicly or not, I'm sure he's full of regrets and wishes he'd done things differently,' says Duncan. With Trooping the Colour and Father's Day falling on the same weekend, it was bound to make him look back at the happy relationships he once had with his brother and dad, and I'm sure he'd love to be able to rebuild those.' Last month, Harry lost his bid to overturn the decision to deny him and his family state-funded, high level security provided for senior royals while in the UK. As a result, he said he 'couldn't see a world' in which he would be able to bring Meghan and the children back to his homeland. Duncan says the death of Harry's mother, Princess Diana, likely weighs heavily on the couple when it comes to their protection, as the absence of official Metropolitan Police protection was a 'contributing factor' in the accident that took her life. But he stresses that whether the couple are 'liked' or not is irrelevant to their safety. The key distinction, he says, is the difference between official royal security and private protection, which could mean the difference between life and death. Official royal security gives royals round-the-clock, armed protection from top Met Police officers and allows MI5 to 'surround them in a ring' of top-level intelligence. Given Meghan's understandable need to protect her children, Duncan suspects it would be very difficult for the family to feel safe without those measures in place. 'At big royal events, the security you actually see is the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of undercover officers and agents working, too,' he says. 'Without the official support and security, Harry and Meghan are left with two or three bodyguards who are pretty blind to what the potential threats are.'

Incredibly awkward Prince William birthday blunder triggered shock resignation
A mix-up over official photographs to mark a landmark celebration for the Prince of Wales led to recriminations, clarifications and one longstanding royal employee's departure The Prince of Wales is celebrating his 43rd birthday today, five months after his wife Princess Kate turned the same age. And let's hope the occasion is less dramatic than back in 2000, when Prince William's 18th celebrations were said to have prompted a longstanding royal employee to resign. Releasing official photographs to such a special occasion for the heir to the throne should have been straightforward. Instead, a row over copyright photos saw King Charles ' press secretary Sandy Henney reportedly fall on her sword after seven years at the helm. Sandy had overseen an incredibly difficult time for Charles, who had separated and then gotten divorced from Princess Diana before she tragically died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. But while she had dealt with the storm of 'Camillagate' and the then Princess of Wales ' infamous Panorama interview with aplomb, William's 18th birthday celebrations were said to have proved to be her downfall. READ MORE: Prince William's billionaire pal took haunting final photo moments before bee sting death At the time the Prince of Wales turned 18, Buckingham Palace had a longstanding agreement with the British media not to invade William or Harry's privacy during their education. So when Sandy reportedly gave newspaper Daily Telegraph and TV network ITN exclusive access to the prince for images to mark his landmark birthday, other news outlets were not happy. As BBC deputy director Richard Sambrock put it: "As news organisations, we agreed to suspend competition for the sake of protecting Prince William 's interests at a sensitive time. Anything that departs from the agreed principle that all news outlets should have common access or lack of access to Prince William is completely unacceptable." The exclusive photos also caused an argument over copyright, for while the law automatically grants photographers copyright of their own work, Buckingham Palace would traditionally own the copyright on official photographs released in this manner, with proceeds going to charity. Daily Telegraph editor Charles Moore said he was "appalled" at the treatment of his photographer, who went onto make a goodwill gesture. "I was offered the opportunity to take exclusive pictures of Prince William at Eton, which I was honoured to accept," said The Telegraph's man Ian Jones. "The law conferred copyright to me and no suggestion has been made until today that I should donate it to the Crown. Now the suggestion has been made, I shall gladly assign the copyright as the Prince of Wales may direct." In an attempt to clarify matters, St James' Palace had said in a statement: "It is a matter of deep regret that confusion has arisen over the photographs commissioned to mark Prince William's 18th birthday. The copyright of these pictures should have been established at the time they were taken to ensure that St James' Palace owned the copyright and that any proceeds arising from the use of the photographs went to charity as had normally happened in the past. "The issue was not resolved and the copyright is now wrongly vested elsewhere. The Prince of Wales hopes that, in the light of the clear and consistent policy, no one should profit form pictures, either of Prince William or Prince Harry, and that those who do own the copyright will make clear that all proceeds will go to charity. "To do otherwise would be to undermine the work of the Palace, the press and the Press Complaints Commission have all vested in the protection of Prince William and Prince Harry's privacy." By the time the celebrations had died down, Sandy Henney had resigned from her post.
