After he served his two-week suspension, he resumed his career and earned a big-money move to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he won the league title during the 2023/24 season. He then moved to Wydad Casablanca.
Currently, he's preparing to represent the Moroccan giants at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which kicked off in Miami this Sunday morning. It seems that Lorch is off the hook, and his assault on his then-girlfriend has now been forgotten.
Other footballers have been accused in the past, but charges were either not opened or their cases never made it to court.
In a country where 33.1% of women aged 18 and older have endured physical violence in their lifetime, according to a report by the Human Sciences Research Council, sweeping Lorch's past transgressions under the rug paints a picture that the scourge of GBVF is not important.
The Human Sciences Research Council report revealed that 33.1% of women aged 18 and older – amounting to over 7.8 million women – have endured physical violence in their lifetime.

Dr Zubeda Dangor, of The Nisaa Institute for Women's Development, says it's important for clubs to publicly condemn gender-based violence and femicide and make it clear that such behaviour is not tolerated.
Dangor feels that while there has been progress in condemning GBVF in sport, more could be done to promote gender equality and prevent GBVF.
She urged clubs to develop clear policies, provide education, and collaborate with experts.
'Sports clubs and organisations should collaborate with experts, including GBVF specialists, law enforcement, and healthcare providers, to ensure effective response and support for survivors.'
The three biggest clubs in South Africa were approached for comment, and to find out what measures were in place to combat GBV in South Africa. Only Kaizer Chiefs replied and said they would need until the end of the month to respond to IOL.
What Dangor would love to see is clubs using their platforms to raise awareness and shift public attitudes towards GBV. She said social media campaigns can be used to share educational content, personal stories, and resources related to GBVF.
'By leveraging their platforms, sports clubs can play a significant role in raising awareness, shifting public attitudes, challenging myths, and supporting existing GBVF services,' she said.

Botafogo's players celebrate after beating Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA Club World Cup. Image: Frederic J. Brown / AFP The FIFA Club World Cup is heating up as the second round of group stage matches gets into full swing. This weekend could play a crucial role in determining which teams take control in their bid to qualify for the knockout rounds, and here we examine Sunday's headline fixtures. Next Stay Close ✕ The Brazilian heavyweights proved they wouldn't be an easy team to deal with in this competition, having managed to contain Borussia Dortmund's threat in their opening match, which ended goalless. Despite the result, Fluminense created more chances and looked the more dangerous side over the full 90 minutes than the German outfit. They now face an Ulsan team still recovering from a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in their first game. With both sides needing points, this fixture becomes crucial, as a win would ease the pressure going into the final group match with a possible last 16 place at stake. Juventus vs Wydad AC Juventus cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory over UAE Pro League outfit Al Ain in their opening fixture and remain strong contenders to progress to the last 16 as they prepare to face a tough challenge from Wydad Athletic Club on Sunday. After enduring a rather modest Serie A campaign, which saw them just clinch a top-four finish and qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, this tournament provides a real opportunity for silverware, and their squad depth gives them a genuine shot at going all the way. Their clash with Wydad is expected to be a far sterner test than the opening match. Despite the Moroccan club's 2-0 loss to Manchester City, their performance was more competitive than the scoreline suggests. They are expected to grow stronger as the competition progresses and their confidence builds. South African duo Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula have been instrumental for the North African side in recent months and could play a pivotal role again on Sunday. Real Madrid vs CF Pachuca Real Madrid head into this encounter following a high-tempo 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, a result that left them slightly frustrated given their expectations as one of the tournament favorites. They'll now aim to collect their first win of the competition. Under the leadership of former midfielder Xabi Alonso, Los Blancos boast a talented mix of youthful energy and seasoned experience, making them well-equipped to hand Mexican outfit Pachuca a second defeat in this year's global showpiece. Pachuca pushed Austrian side RB Salzburg all the way in their opening game, and although they suffered a 2-1 loss, they were by no means outplayed, indicating they won't be an easy team to overcome. SAPS intensifies crackdown on gender-based violence with over 200 arrests in one week
West Coast College and its partners united in a visible stand against the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) early this month. Image: Supplied The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested more than 200 suspects for rape during operations across the country in a week to intensify efforts in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda van Wyk said over the past week, a total of 201 suspects were arrested for rape during operations across the country. 'Of these, 56 were wanted individuals tracked down in various provinces,' she said. According to Van Wyk, among the arrests was that of a man and woman in Bloubergstrand, Western Cape, for the alleged sexual abuse of their daughters, aged three and eight. 'Police seized multiple electronic devices during their arrest. They face several charges, including the production of child sexual abuse material ('child pornography'), rape, sexual assault, and sexual grooming,' she stated. Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ In another recent case, Van Wyk said a 24-year-old suspect was arrested by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Tonga, Mpumalanga, on June 19, 2025, following the gang-rape of a 27-year-old woman earlier this week. Investigations into this incident are ongoing, she added. Van Wyk also listed notable convictions this past week, including the sentencing of a 33-year-old serial rapist on June 9, 2025, by the Polokwane High Court. Lesley Morwamashobe Mohlala was sentenced to 222 years' imprisonment. 'He was found guilty on multiple counts of rape and aggravated robbery.' In another case, Van Wyk said the East London High Court sentenced a 42-year-old accused to life imprisonment for the rape of a 13-year-old girl, who became pregnant as a result of the assault. On June 18, 2025, she said the Waterval Regional Court sentenced a 25-year-old man from Tshiozwi, Limpopo, to life imprisonment for raping his nine-year-old cousin in 2021. Van Wyk said the SAPS remains committed to ensuring justice prevails for victims by 'removing sexual predators from our communities'. As part of a broader initiative, Nomgqibelo Mdlalose, Movement Navigator for the End GBVF 100-Day Challenges, stated that many teams within the movement are working closely with young people to address GBVF at a grassroots level. With over 200 challenges planned for 2025, the End GBVF 100-Day Challenges are accelerating action against GBVF within courts, municipalities, and higher education. 'Youth engagement isn't about campaigns or one-day events - it's a commitment to show up and respond. What's been powerful to see through the 100-Day Challenge teams is how they're showing up consistently in the spaces where young people spend most of their time, such as preschools, classrooms, and college campuses,' said Mdlalose. In the Drakenstein Municipality in the Western Cape, an ambitious effort is under way to train 500 Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers as GBVF first responders. The movement said on Thursday that over the next 100 days, 15 preschools will become part of a network of care where teachers are trained to identify early signs of abuse and respond in trauma-sensitive ways. The importance of this work lies in its timing, it said, stating that these are the years when children first learn what safety feels like, when trust is built or broken. And because many survivors never disclose what happened to them as children, interventions at this stage could be life-altering. 'GBVF prevention starts with the relationships and environments that shape how young people understand harm and support avenues,' added Mdlalose. According to the movement, Taletso TVET College in Mafikeng, in partnership with the National Prosecuting Authority, is fostering accountability and legal literacy through workshops on the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Acts. These sessions aim to empower students to report abuse and understand their rights, addressing the normalisation of harmful behaviour on campus and the hundreds of GBVF-related misconduct cases reported in higher education. Limpopo's 100-Day Challenge teams have held Moot Court sessions for high schoolers, demonstrating sexual offence trials and minimum sentences for rape. The movement said this teaches young people that violence is wrong and shows them how justice is served, making the law tangible and fairness achievable.

Iqraam Rayners, Serhou Guirassy crucial to Mamelodi Sundowns and Borussia Dortmund fortunes in Club World Cup clash
Iqraam Rayners scored for Mamelodi Sundowns against Ulsan HD. Photo: AFP Image: AFP After a stellar opening match in which Mamelodi Sundowns scored a landmark victory against South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai, going up against the Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund is a different beast entirely. In tonight's Fifa Club World Cup Group F match at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio (6pm SA time kick-off), Sundowns play Dortmund, who are strong contenders in this tournament. Yet their initial outing against Brazil's Fluminense left much to be desired. Held to a frustrating goalless draw, the Germans struggled to find their rhythm, prompting criticism since much more was expected from a team with such an attacking pedigree. Dortmund coach Niko Kovac acknowledged the team's lacklustre performance, suggesting that they were lucky to escape without a loss. Kovac will be pinning his victory hopes on the German club's star striker, Serhou Guirassy. The French-born forward, who dons the colours of the Guinea national team, has emerged as a pivotal figure in Dortmund's attacking line this season. Despite a frustrating outing against Fluminense, where he failed to convert multiple chances, Guirassy's presence on the pitch is nothing short of formidable. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad Loading At 29, Guirassy is not only a towering figure, but a versatile striker known for his lethal finishing, aerial prowess, and remarkable physical strength. His ability to wreak havoc on opposition defences marks him as a critical target for Sundowns' defenders. With an impressive tally of 21 goals from 30 Bundesliga appearances in the 2024/25 season, his confidence and hunger to score after recent missed opportunities are palpable. Against Fluminense in their Group F opening match, Guirassy was a constant threat, showcasing his skill. However, his inability to find the net left the striker eager for redemption against Sundowns. 'I want to make amends and ensure my team gets the result we need,' he said, as he targets a stronger performance this time. Sundowns' Zimbabwean defender Divine Lunga will no doubt be charged with marking Guirassy. After his sterling performance against Ulsan, Lunga was the only African to be named in the Club World Cup Team of the Week. Dortmund will be aware of Iqraam Rayners, the Sundowns striker who marked his arrival on the global stage by clinching a goal and the Player of the Match award against Ulsan. The 29-year-old Rayners not only secured a 1-0 victory for his team, but also solidified his reputation as a key player to watch as the tournament progresses. Since joining the reigning PSL champions from Stellenbosch FC at the start of the season, he has been in remarkable form. With aspirations of securing a move to Europe, every match at the Club World Cup presents an opportunity for him to demonstrate his prowess to potential suitors. He closely contended for the Premiership Golden Boot, only narrowly losing out to his teammate, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, underscoring his goal-scoring ability. Rayners emphasised the importance of capitalising on every opportunity on the pitch in their next match today. 'Every game will be special for us. We are playing against big teams in this tournament,' he stated. 'I believe we will reach the second phase; we just need to take it one game at a time. Focus is key, and whatever happens in the next match happens, but I think we can go through.'
