"Caste Census will only be done properly in 2027, under PDA govt": Akhilesh Yadav

India Gazette06-06-2025

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 6 (ANI): Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, on Friday, emphasised that the Caste Census will only be done properly under the PDA (Pichde, Dalits, Alpsankhyak) government in 2027.
Speaking with the media, Yadav said, 'Caste Census will happen in 2027, under the PDA (Pichde, Dalits, Alpasankhyak) Government. Only then will the Census be done properly.'
Further, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that there is an incomplete museum in Agra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which the Samajwadi Party's government will not only complete, but also install a grand statue of Shivaji Maharaj at Lucknow
'In honour of a great personality like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj...there is an incomplete museum in Agra whose architect is world-renowned...We, the Samajwadis, will not only make the museum in his name, but we will also install a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Lucknow Riverfront; his throne will be made of gold. Samajwadis will honour him like that in 2027,' Akhilesh Yadav said.
Uttar Pradesh will witness the next Assembly elections in 2027 between the two most prominent parties, i.e., Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party. The Congress is likely to contest the polls in alliance with the SP.
In the current session, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly has 403 elected members, 258 of whom are from the Bhartiya Janata Party, 107 from the Samajwadi Party, and 13 from the Apna Dal.
In addition to that, Rastriya Lok Dal has nine; the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party has six; the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal has five; Jansatta Dal Loktantrik and Congress have two; and the Bahujan Samaj Party has only one representative.
Earlier today, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi attended the 'Samvidhan Sabha' in Rajgir, Nalanda. Addressing the gathering, Gandhi emphasised the need for a caste census and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance on the issue.
He questioned PM Modi's claim of being an OBC while asserting that the BJP denies the existence of caste in India, emphasising the need for a genuine caste census.
'Narendra Modi used to say in every speech, I am OBC. Then, on the caste census, they say that there is no caste in India. If there is no caste in India, then how did Narendra Modi become an OBC? My goal is to conduct a caste census. I had said this to Narendra Modi face to face in Lok Sabha - there will be a caste census, and you know he has a habit of surrendering,' Rahul Gandhi posted on Congress X handle.
Rahul Gandhi emphasised the importance of conducting a caste census, asserting that it would reveal the country's actual social and economic dynamics. (ANI)

Congress govt. shielding KCR family on KLIP row: Bandi Sanjay Kumar

Alleging massive corruption in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) under the previous BRS government led by KCR, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar hit back at the ruling Congress dispensation accusing it of being a shield for KCR family. 'Some people are spreading false propaganda that the BJP has changed its stance on Kaleshwaram and colluded with BRS. Our party's stand on the Kaleshwaram project is very clear, and our demand is for a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project,' Mr. Sanjay told the media in Karimnagar on Sunday. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said that the Kaleshwaram Project became an ATM for KCR's family. That is BJP's stand too. If any party leader speaks against the BJP's stand, it's wrong. The high command will deal with them,' he said in reply to a query. Has Congress leader Rahul Gandhi forgotten his earlier demand for a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram fiasco during the last Assembly elections? he asked. 'We don't trust the Congress government's current investigation into Kaleshwaram project. Our main demand remains a CBI inquiry,' he added. Citing the copies of the Central Water Commission (CWC) report, he said the CWC reported that Tummidihatti has water availability of 165 tmc ft based on the scientific assessment of the data from the past 33 years (1986 to 2013). 'But those at the highest echelons of power in the previous BRS government altered the design and looted public money by inflating the ₹38,000 crore project to ₹1.2 lakh crore,' he charged. 'The project failed to bring any tangible results.' If BRS claims that the Kaleshwaram project was built with Cabinet approval and sub-committee recommendations, why aren't they making those documents public? Mr. Sanjay asked. Taking a dig at KCR, he said that Mr. Rao, who called himself a top engineer, alone made all decisions including on Kaleshwaram during his tenure as Chief Minister. Stating that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) is a statutory body, the Union Minister said the BJP's view is that any future action on the Kaleshwaram project must be guided by the expert committee report.

Trump ignites debate on presidential authority with Iran strikes, wins praise too

President Donald Trump's bombardment of three sites in Iran quickly sparked debate in Congress over his authority to launch the strikes, with Republicans praising Trump for decisive action even as many Democrats warned he should have sought congressional approval.'Well done, President Trump,' Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina posted on X. Alabama Sen. Katie Britt called the bombings 'strong and surgical.' The Senate Armed Services Committee chairperson, Roger Wicker of Mississippi, said Trump 'has made a deliberate — and correct — decision to eliminate the existential threat posed by the Iranian regime.'advertisementThe instant divisions in the U.S. Congress reflected an already swirling debate over the president's ability to conduct such a consequential action without authorisation from the House and Senate on the use of military force. While Trump is hardly the first U.S. president to go it alone, his expansive use of presidential power raises immediate questions about what comes next, and whether he is exceeding the limits of his authority. 'This was a massive gamble by President Trump, and nobody knows yet whether it will pay off,' said Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services and a few Republicans, said the strikes were unconstitutional, and demanded more information in a classified setting. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said that he received only a 'perfunctory notification' without any details, according to a president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy,' Schumer said in a statement. 'Confronting Iran's ruthless campaign of terror, nuclear ambitions, and regional aggression demands strength, resolve, and strategic clarity.'House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said that Trump 'misled the country about his intentions, failed to seek congressional authorization for the use of military force and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East.'The quick GOP endorsements of stepped-up U.S. involvement in Iran came after Trump publicly considered the strikes for days and many congressional Republicans had cautiously said they thought he would make the right decision. The party's schism over Iran could complicate the GOP's efforts to boost Pentagon spending as part of a $350 billion national security package in Trump's 'big, beautiful' tax breaks bill, which is speeding toward votes next week.'We now have very serious choices ahead to provide security for our citizens and our allies,' Wicker posted on Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader John Thune were both briefed ahead of the strikes on Saturday, according to people familiar with the situation and granted anonymity to discuss it. Thune said Saturday evening that 'as we take action tonight to ensure a nuclear weapon remains out of reach for Iran, I stand with President Trump and pray for the American troops and personnel in harm's way.'advertisementJohnson said in a statement that the military operations 'should serve as a clear reminder to our adversaries and allies that President Trump means what he says.'House Intelligence Committee Chairperson Rick Crawford, R-Ark., said he had also been in touch with the White House and 'I am grateful to the U.S. servicemembers who carried out these precise and successful strikes."Breaking from many of his Democratic colleagues, Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, an outspoken supporter of Israel, also praised the attacks on Iran. 'As I've long maintained, this was the correct move by @POTUS,' he posted. 'Iran is the world's leading sponsor of terrorism and doesn't have nuclear capabilities.'Both parties have seen splits in recent days over the prospect of striking Iran, including some of Trump's most ardent supporters who share his criticism of America's 'forever wars.' Republican Rep. Warren Davidson of Ohio posted that 'while President Trump's decision may prove just, it's hard to conceive a rationale that's Constitutional."advertisementKentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, a longtime opponent of U.S. involvement in foreign wars, also posted on X that 'This is not Constitutional.''This is not our fight,' said Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Democrats have maintained that Congress should have a say, even as presidents in both parties have ignored the legislative branch's constitutional authority. The Senate was scheduled to vote soon on a resolution from Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine that would require congressional approval before the U.S. declares war on Iran or takes specific military said the bombings were 'horrible judgment."'I will push for all senators to vote on whether they are for this third idiotic Middle East war,' Kaine Rep. Greg Casar, the chairperson of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, also called on Congress to immediately pass a war powers resolution. He said politicians had always promised that 'new wars in the Middle East would be quick and easy.''Then they sent other people's children to fight and die endlessly,' Casar said. "Enough.'Must Watch

PM Modi speaks with Iranian President Pezeshkian, calls for de-escalation and dialogue

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian today, voicing deep concern over the escalating Iran-Israel conflict, particularly as New Delhi is concerned about rising tensions threatening regional stability. The 45-minute call, initiated by President Pezeshkian following US strikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites — Natanz, Isfahan, and the fortified Fordo facility, which Tehran claims are solely for civilian use — included a detailed briefing on the evolving situation. During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India's position. 'We discussed in detail the current situation. I expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. India reiterates its call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,' he said soon after the call.
