Newell Brands has expanded its partnership with Adobe to integrate generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions into its content supply chain.
The collaboration sees Newell Brands utilising Adobe Firefly and Adobe Express, along with other Adobe tools, across its portfolio which includes brands such as Sharpie, Rubbermaid, and Yankee Candle.
Efficiency gains
Through the adoption of Adobe Firefly Services, Firefly Custom Models, and Adobe Express, Newell Brands has reported significant efficiency improvements in content production workflows. According to the company, the creation of Paper Mate packaging content accelerated by 75%, and the time required to generate social media assets for Oster products was reduced by 33%.
This implementation is part of Newell Brands' broader omnichannel marketing and content strategy, which aims to enhance engagement with both consumers and retail partners across various platforms, including social media and e-commerce.
Newell Brands has expanded its use of Adobe's enterprise content supply chain solutions, such as Adobe Workfront and Experience Manager, from campaign planning through to asset management and content production.
Strategic partnership
Melanie Huet, Co-CEO, Home & Commercial Segment at Newell Brands, detailed the company's rationale for expanding its partnership with Adobe. She said, "As part of our corporate strategy to win in the marketplace, we are investing in solutions that help us deliver superior brand communications. We wanted a partner who could help us connect the Newell Brands ecosystem thereby enabling faster, higher quality content creation that can be leveraged globally with ease."
"We ultimately decided to expand our partnership with Adobe, a longtime trusted partner with best-in-class tools that can be used directly in our existing workflows. We leaned into Adobe to rebuild our content supply chain and integrate our marketing technology stack with a vision of delivering five times more content, unlocking significant efficiency gains and improving the effectiveness of our brand communications."
Brent Rudewick, Vice President of Adobe GenStudio, commented on the demand for scalable content production solutions amid increasing global marketing needs. He said, "Businesses expect the demand for content to rise dramatically over the next few years, putting marketers and creatives under incredible pressure to deliver assets that support global marketing efforts and can drive customer engagement. As Newell Brands looks to expand its reach to new audiences, Adobe's AI-enabled enterprise solutions will empower the company to unify creativity and marketing, scaling the production of standout content that anchors impactful customer experiences."
AI-driven production
By deploying Adobe's generative AI offerings such as Firefly Services and Firefly Custom Models, Newell Brands can automate and streamline repetitive tasks including resizing content for different digital channels and adapting backgrounds for various regions and campaigns. These services also allow the company to train the generative AI models on their own proprietary assets, maintaining consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across teams.
Specifically, the use of Firefly Custom Models in the production of Paper Mate packaging resulted in a 75% increase in speed for content creation, significantly reducing time to market. The firm expects to deliver thousands of additional creative assets annually by optimising these processes.
Expanding content creation capabilities
Newell Brands is also rolling out Adobe Express across its marketing and creative departments. Adobe Express provides templates and tools for easy content creation while ensuring compliance with brand guidelines defined by Newell's creative teams. The platform incorporates generative AI features, allowing users to produce assets that are both on-brand and secure for commercial purposes.
In the Latin American market, the deployment of Adobe Express allowed the Newell team to create a style guide featuring approved logos, colours, fonts and templates. This led to a 33% reduction in the time needed for producing Oster social content, equating to the production of 52 assets in 8 hours rather than 12 hours previously.
Workflow integration
These Adobe services build on Newell Brands' continued use of Adobe Workfront for managing campaign planning and production assignments, as well as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Assets for overseeing the company's digital asset library. Together, these platforms allow Newell Brands to efficiently govern, activate and deliver content across a wide array of digital channels such as websites and mobile applications.
By integrating these solutions, the company aims to respond with greater agility to shifting market requirements and consumer preferences for engaging and relevant content.

Adobe launches Firefly app, bringing AI image & video to mobile
Adobe has introduced Firefly image and video generation capabilities to mobile devices via a new application now available for iOS and Android. The rollout of the Firefly mobile app brings AI-powered tools directly to creators, granting the ability to generate, edit and iterate on images and videos from their phones. With both a standalone web and mobile experience, Firefly seamlessly synchronises with Adobe's suite of Creative Cloud applications, allowing users to maintain project continuity and create workflows that transition efficiently from concept to production. Mobile expansion The Firefly mobile app gives creators, from professionals to casual users, the option to generate images and videos using text prompts (Text to Image, Text to Video), convert images into videos (Image to Video), add or remove elements from visuals using Generative Fill, and extend image sizes with AI-generated backgrounds through Generative Expand. Integration with Adobe's Creative Cloud means assets developed on mobile can be continued seamlessly on desktop versions of Photoshop, Premiere Pro and other applications. Adobe states that the Firefly mobile application builds on its existing ecosystem of mobile products, which includes Photoshop, Lightroom and Adobe Express. Utilising AI models that also power desktop Adobe software, these mobile offerings allow for professional content creation suitable for social media, presentations, print and other formats. Firefly Boards for collaboration Firefly Boards, now in public beta, introduces an AI-first moodboarding platform aimed at transforming ideation and team collaboration. Incorporating both video and image generation and editing, Firefly Boards enables creative teams to work together on hundreds of ideas simultaneously, interact with various media types, and modify assets using conversational text prompts and AI-powered tooling from both Adobe and partnering companies. Teams can remix video clips, generate new footage using Adobe's commercially safe Firefly Video Model, or tap into partner models, including those offered by Google, Luma AI, and Pika. Additional image editing features rely on Black Forest Labs' Flux.1 Kontext and OpenAI's generative models, which allow for iterative changes based on user instructions. Expanded AI model ecosystem Adobe has broadened the Firefly ecosystem by incorporating generative AI models from new partners such as Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika, and Runway, supplementing its existing integrations with OpenAI, Google and Black Forest Labs. These models introduce different styles and media capabilities, giving creators the option to experiment with and combine model outputs for greater creative flexibility. The recently added models include Flux.1 Kontext by Black Forest Labs, Ideogram 3.0 by Ideogram, Ray2 by Luma AI, Pika 2.2 text-to-video, Gen-4 Image by Runway, as well as Google's Imagen 4 and Veo 3. The expanded model offering is available initially through Firefly Boards and will be rolled out to the broader Firefly app in future updates. Adobe also continues to maintain native support for its in-house image, video, audio, and vector models within the platform. Content credentials and creator rights In a move to support transparency and uphold creators' rights, Adobe attaches Content Credentials to all AI-generated content produced with Firefly. These credentials visibly specify which model—Adobe's or a partner's—was used in the generation process, aiming to empower creators and stakeholders to identify the provenance of creative assets. Adobe states, "At Adobe, we take the most creator-friendly approach to AI in the industry, driven by our roots in the creative community and our respect for creators." Ongoing updates across Creative Cloud Alongside the Firefly launch, Adobe announced enhancements to Creative Cloud products such as Lightroom, Photoshop and Illustrator, all geared towards enabling users to move from initial concepts to final outputs more efficiently through AI-driven workflow improvements. Updates include batch photo refinement, advanced vector resizing and new capabilities for typography fine-tuning. Firefly usage and growth According to Adobe, over 24 billion assets have been produced globally using Firefly's generative AI models. Creators are using Firefly Image Model 4 and its Ultra variant for highly detailed lifelike images, generating 1080p video from prompts, and producing vector artwork including logos via Text-to-Vector tools. The company also reports a 30 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in Firefly usage and a similar rise in first-time subscribers, while paid subscriptions nearly doubled in the same period. "Creators continue to impress us with the breadth and artistry of the images, videos, graphics and designs they're dreaming up in the Firefly app using models from both Adobe and our partners," said Ely Greenfield, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. "Our goal with Firefly is to deliver creators the most comprehensive destination on web and mobile to access the best generative models from across the industry, in a single integrated experience from ideation to generation and editing." The Firefly mobile app is available to download on iOS and Android. Firefly Boards is currently accessible in public beta through the Firefly web application, and all features are offered as part of Adobe's Creative Cloud Pro plan.

New Zealand climbs global digital ranking but equity lags
The New Zealand government has recorded improvements across all measures in Adobe's 2024 Digital Government Index, with particular gains in customer experience and site performance, but digital equity continues to require focused attention. Progress in digital services The Digital Government Index (DGI), conducted annually by Adobe, benchmarks individual government agencies and departments on their delivery of functional and inclusive digital services. The 2024 results show New Zealand's overall score increased to 66.5 out of 100, representing an 11.6 per cent rise from its 2023 ranking and a 14.7 per cent lift from the inaugural 2022 assessment. This improvement moves New Zealand into the Intermediate maturity category, alongside all other countries in the study. The increase is largely attributed to a 14 per cent improvement in Customer Experience, which was the highest-rated globally, and a 13 per cent rise in Site Performance. However, the Digital Equity dimension saw only a 7 per cent increase, suggesting more work is needed to ensure equal access to services for all citizens. The Ministry of Education was the top-performing agency in New Zealand, achieving consistent results across the three DGI dimensions without leading in any single category. Strategic approach New Zealand's current digital strategy is guided by the Service Modernisation Roadmap, which was introduced in late 2024 and takes a unified agency approach to service improvement. It is managed by the Government Chief Digital Officer and relies on individual agencies to implement consistent service experiences across government operations. The modernisation programme is grounded in four key pillars: enhancing customer experience, developing reusable digital components, strengthening foundational systems, and improving digital governance. These focus areas are designed to produce efficient and equitable government services for all New Zealanders. "Scaled up across millions of customer interactions, there are opportunities for significant returns on investment from driving a more efficient, customer-centric approach to digital service delivery," said Paul James, Government Chief Digital Officer and Chair of the Digital Executive Board. Comparisons and rankings New Zealand was ranked third globally in the 2024 DGI, following the United Kingdom and Australia, and placed ahead of the United States, India and Singapore. The study assessed 102 agency websites worldwide, with Australia's myGov achieving the top overall score. French Administration and French Retirement completed the top three international websites. The highest-performing websites generally provided accessible entry points to government services, strong accessibility features, and personalised citizen journeys. In New Zealand, the Ministry of Education scored consistently across all measured areas to lead government agencies. Technology and trust Artificial intelligence continues to influence how public sector agencies deliver personalised digital experiences at scale. AI adoption is seen as important not only for automation, but also for constructing a citizen-centric public sector. When implemented strategically, technology such as AI can deliver secure, trusted, and fair experiences, supporting New Zealand's approach to regulation and governance. "Harnessing AI effectively could significantly improve customer experience and boost efficiency and productivity. The Government is seeking to enable AI innovation in public services to create value for New Zealanders while maintaining trust and confidence in the Public Service," said Paul James. Next steps The 2024 DGI results reflect progress in all three measured categories—customer experience, site performance, and digital equity—although individual agency results varied and no single organisation outperformed in every area. The report emphasises the importance of continued effort across all dimensions to meet the expectations of citizens and keep pace with technology advancements. The study also notes that agencies with more mature technology and personalisation capabilities tend to achieve higher DGI scores. The report concludes that while there has been commendable progress, there remains scope to expand inclusion efforts through technology improvements, in order to foster trust, participation and growth among all citizens.
