Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the country's health issues with a holistic approach, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday, mentioning that the Centre was giving free treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh for 60 crore needy people.Shah referred to Modi's remarks that the biggest problem leading to poverty was illness and the biggest reason for continued illness is the cost of treatment, while speaking at the opening of the Bengaluru campus of the Adichunchanagiri University (ACU).The union government, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana , was making all medicines available at 20% of the market price at 15,000 locations. The PM has also taken several measures to increase the number of doctors in the country, he noted.In 2014, there were seven All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the country. Today there are 23. The number of medical colleges has increased from 387 to 780; MBBS seats have increased from 51,000 to 1,18,000; and the number of postgraduate medical seats has risen from 31,000 to 74,000, the union home minister said.The PM, Shah added, Centre built 12 crore toilets in households, launched the Fit India Movement , initiated the International Day of Yoga, and offered free vaccination for children of up to 15 years of age. The Poshan Abhiyan addresses the nutrition deficit of mothers and children, paving the way for building a healthy citizenry.Shah praised the work of the Adichunchanagiri seer the late Balagangadharanatha Swamiji and his successor and the current head of the mutt Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji in the areas of education and healthcare. The Mutt is doing excellent work by running health centres in villages, providing free treatment for the poor, and establishing educational centres for children, he said.

Inhale, arch your back, lift your chest and chin toward the ceiling (Cow Pose). Exhale, round your spine, tuck your chin to your chest and pull your belly in (Cat Pose). Repeat slowly for 5–8 rounds. 2. Seated spinal twist Sit upright with your feet flat on the floor. Place your right hand on the back of your chair and your left hand on your right thigh. Inhale, lengthen your spine. Exhale, gently twist your torso to the right. Hold for 5 breaths, return to centre, and repeat on the other side. 3. Neck rolls Sit tall in your chair with shoulders relaxed. Drop your chin toward your chest. Slowly rotate your head in a clockwise circle. Complete 3 slow rolls, then reverse direction. Be gentle and move with the breath. 4. Chair pigeon pose Sit upright in your chair. Cross your right ankle over your left knee, forming a figure-4. Keep your foot flexed to protect your knee. Gently lean forward to deepen the stretch. Hold for 5–8 breaths, then switch legs. 5. Seated side stretch Sit tall with feet flat and spine straight. Raise your right arm overhead. Gently lean to the left while keeping your hips grounded. Hold for 5 breaths, feeling the stretch along your right side. Come back to centre and repeat on the other side. These office-friendly yoga poses take only a few minutes and can make a big difference in how you feel physically and mentally throughout your workday.

The sessions at Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world, were carried out despite extreme weather conditions and high-altitude challenges, reinforcing yoga's relevance in maintaining resilience and endurance among soldiers. Visuals shared by the Army on official social media platforms showed personnel performing Yoga asanas against the snow-covered backdrop of Siachen, which is located at an altitude of over 20,000 feet and considered the highest battlefield in the world. The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21 following a United Nations resolution adopted in 2014. This year's global theme, 'Yoga for Self and Society," emphasises individual wellness and collective harmony. Yoga has been formally integrated into the Indian Army's routine training and wellness programs, particularly for troops deployed in high-stress, high-altitude environments such as Siachen. With collaboration between entrepreneurs and the government, we can make this process successful and ensure that our citizens receive healthcare services that meet global quality standards, the minister added. Delivering the Chief Guest address, Dr Chandra Sekhar noted, with record investment in medical education, the country is nearing to achieve the World Health Organisation (WHO) optimal number of doctors and integration of telemedicine has further boosted access to services. Speaking further, the Union Minister stressed that entrepreneurs in the country can explore innovative business models to address healthcare challenges, such as drone-based delivery of essential medicines and mobile vans equipped with trained MBBS doctors and physicians. Advocating for self-reliance, Dr Chandra Sekhar said that India needs to develop its own system and needs to focus on investing in primary and preventive care. By leveraging digital infrastructure and implementing price controls, along with effective workforce planning, the country can overcome existing healthcare challenges, he added.
