Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University (ACU) on Friday. Built at a cost of Rs 200 crore, the sprawling 16-acre campus houses a 1,000-bed hospital and educational facilities for 4,000 students. In his address, Shah lauded the efforts of the Adichunchanagiri Mutt for its service-oriented approach rooted in the principle of 'Sarva jan hitaya, sarva jan sukhaya (The welfare and happiness of all).' Shah said, 'This complex will become a great medium of service in a true sense.' He praised the Mutt's wide-ranging social impact – from running rural health centres and providing free treatment to supporting education for underprivileged children. Referring to the legacy of Jagadguru Dr Balagangadharanatha Swamiji, the former chief pontiff of the Adichunchanagiri Mutt, and the efforts of Dr Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, the current pontiff of the Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Shah said the Mutt has successfully combined spirituality, culture, and modern education, connecting youth with tradition while enabling them to find a respectable place in society. He said the Mutt's activities are 'anchored on nine pillars – Anna (food), Akshara (education), Arogya (health), Adhyatmika (spirituality), Aashraya (shelter), Aranya (environment), Aakaalu (disaster relief), Anukampa (compassion), and Anubandh (community bonding).' 'It is a model for how religious institutions can help strengthen social unity while preserving culture and values,' he added. Shah also cited key central government interventions such as the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh for 60 crore people, the construction of nearly 12 crore toilets, the launch of the Fit India Movement, Mission Indradhanush for child immunisation, and the Poshan Abhiyan to address maternal and child nutrition. He further pointed to the expansion in medical education infrastructure under the Narendra Modi government: 'The number of AIIMS institutions has increased from 7 to 23, medical colleges from 387 to 780, MBBS seats from 51,000 to 1.18 lakh, and postgraduate seats from 31,000 to 74,000.' Speaking about affordable healthcare access, he noted that under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana, essential medicines are now available at 20 per cent of the market rate through over 15,000 centres. The 1,000-bed hospital on the newly inaugurated ACU campus has facilities for cardiology, neurosurgery, oncology, and transplants, including kidney, liver, and cornea.

Fans stunned at 5-foot-5, 270lb pro football player as video of him getting brutally tackled goes viral

An arena football kicker is going viral not because of a long field goal or a perfectly executed punt. Instead, it's because this kicker isn't your prototypical football player. Nestor 'Manny' Higuera plays for the Washington Wolfpack in the Arena Football 1 league and has gained notoriety for more than just his athletic abilities. That's because Higuera stands at 5-foot-5 and weighs 270 pounds. Those dimensions are not typically seen on a football field - and especially not on a kicker's frame. Yet, Higuera has managed to carve out a niche in professional football and has done well for himself. Higuera was filmed completing a punt for the Wolfpack in their lopsided 98-12 loss on Saturday and that spread across social media. Units are kickers too — Coach Duggs (@CoachDuggs) June 16, 2025 AF1 kicker Manny Higuera has gone viral again, but not for a stellar field goal or punt This isn't the first time that Higuera has gone viral. Back in 2021, he nailed a 46-yard game-winning field goal for NAIA-level Arizona Christian University to win their conference championship. Higuera began playing soccer growing up in Arizona when his high school's football coach offered him a spot on the team. 'When I first started, the farthest kick I kicked was like 55 (yards),' Higuera said in an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on the back of his first viral moment years ago. 'I knew I always had the leg strength from soccer. On goal kicks, I could hit it three-fourths of the field. 'If I made good contact, I would put the ball like 10 yards away from the 18-yard box on the other side. So I always knew I had the power and the leg strength for it. 'But switching to football was a little difficult. After I got the hang of it, I was just able to kick and put the ball far.' Higuera attended kicking camps to hone his skills, leading to a successful college career where he went 20-for-24 on field goals and 67-for-72 on PATs. That led to the AF1, where he's scored 40 total points across 12 games played.

BIG COUNTRY, Texas () – When the sky starts to rumble, many West Texans know what's likely to follow — flash flooding. And across the Big Country today, that threat became a reality. Flash flood warnings were issued for several counties, including Taylor, Callahan, Jones, and Shackelford. Meanwhile, flood watches were in effect for Comanche and Mills Counties. Check out these photos from Cat Claw Creek in Abilene. Flames erupt at north Abilene car wash According to the US National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, the West Texas Mesonet station on the ACU campus recorded just under an inch of rainfall. Radar estimates show more than 2 inches fell in some nearby areas. This was the scene earlier at the River Oaks Shopping Center. Abilene residents took to social media, sharing photos and videos of flooding in familiar spots like People's Plaza and intersections along Ambler Avenue. In the Sayles area, trash cans were seen floating through the streets. Even one of our reporters had trouble navigating safely while heading to cover water rescues. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
