Kota Kinabalu: A China national who breached the condition on her social visit pass by involving in a business in the State was fined RM500 or three months in prison. Wang Zida pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to the charge against her. She was found breaching the condition on her documents at 12.12pm on Apr 22 this year at the premises of 168 Duka Trading Sdn Bhd in Lorong Pokok Kayu Manis 2, Luyang. The charge stated that Wang was involved in the business of the 168 Duka Trading Sdn Bhd and that she violated the condition on her document. Wang was charged under Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations which provides for a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, on conviction. She paid the fine but was also ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action. Meanwhile, five illegal foreigners were jailed four months each for illegal entry. They were Gafar Adil, Jipun Adil, Jolpin Aijan, Nazim Mahamud and Analisa Abdul. The five admitted to entering the State without document and they were arrested in Petagas area, recently. During the arrests, the five failed to produce their identity documents to the Immigration personnel who carried out operation at the said area. The court ordered the five to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests. After serving their jail sentence, the illegals were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for deportation. Rally: 13 UMS students may be suspended or expelled under Auku

UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said only two students were directly involved in burning a caricature of the Prime Minister, an act the university strongly condemns. He said a disciplinary committee comprising appointed academicians would be formed soon to investigate the matter and determine appropriate action under Auku. The committee will call each student individually to give their explanation regarding the incident that occurred during Sunday's rally. Video clip case: MACC calls in another Sabah politician

KOTA KINABALU: Another Sabah politician has been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to give a statement at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex on Monday (June 23) morning. It is learnt that the state assistant minister was called in as part of the ongoing investigation into a corruption case involving a mining prospecting scandal. A source said that the politician, who is a state assemblyman and also a Member of Parliament, arrived at the MACC office at about 9am, accompanied by two lawyers. ALSO READ: MACC nabs two including assemblyman in Sabah mining licence probe The source added that the politician is among several assemblymen expected to be charged at the end of this month. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy declined to comment on the matter. A state-owned investment arm company chairman, who was questioned by Sabah MACC for nearly four hours on Wednesday (June 18), is expected to be charged on June 30. Also expected to be charged is a whistleblower known as "Albert", previously linked to the circulation of video clips related to the case. ALSO READ: Three likely to be charged in Sabah mining scandal Earlier, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that an assemblyman and a businessman had been detained under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. The alleged offences are believed to have occurred between 2023 and last year, involving the solicitation and receipt of bribes amounting to approximately RM200,000 in connection with the processing of mineral exploration licence applications. Both individuals have since been released on MACC bail and are expected to be charged at the end of the month.

GOF seizes Thai saplings, lorry worth RM400,000 over disease fears

RANTAU PANJANG: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 10,000 plant saplings and a lorry worth about RM400,000 over concerns the plants may carry harmful disease. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said a 34-year-old lorry driver was also arrested during the operation. A GOF team from the Ninth Battalion stopped the lorry near the Gual Tinggi health clinic around 11am, he said. "After checking the vehicle, they found 5,000 Barbados cherry saplings and 5,000 clove flower saplings inside it. "The GOF personnel believe the plants may be infested with harmful pests and disease. "They then detained the lorry driver and confiscated the plant saplings. The value of the seizure, including the lorry, is RM400,000," he added. Ros Azhan said initial investigations showed the saplings were headed to a local nursery. In a separate operation, the GOF seized various types of cosmetic products, estimated to be worth RM28,000, at an illegal jetty in Tumpat on Sunday. The suspected smugglers, however, fled to Thailand by boat upon realising the presence of the GOF team.
