Police warn public against unlawful gathering on Saturday

District police chief ACP Kasim Muda said organisers are accountable for ensuring public order, road access and community safety are not compromised. Advertisement Offences related to unlawful assembly include sedition, criminal defamation, obstructing public servants, and possessing dangerous weapons, carrying penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment. He added that non-citizens and minors are prohibited from organising or joining assemblies under the law. Jahid leads Sabah honours list

Jahid is among four recipients of the state's highest honour, the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima. Advertisement Other SPDK recipients include Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Finance Minister's Special Advisory Body member Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali, and businessman Datuk Lim Yu Ming. Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, and Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh are among those awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title Datuk. A total of 78 individuals are receiving the PGDK in this year's state awards ceremony. Another 100 are conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), followed by 181 receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK). Paediatrician sues SIA over shrimp allergy incident mid-flight

According to a lawsuit filed in the US District Court, Dr Doreen Benary, 41, was flying Business Class on SIA flight SQ026 from Frankfurt to New York on 8 October 2024 when she consumed a meal that reportedly contained shrimp. Advertisement She began feeling unwell shortly after eating and was told by a crew member that a mistake had been made, prompting an emergency diversion to Paris where she received medical treatment. Benary claims she suffered a severe allergic reaction and is seeking unspecified damages for physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished quality of life. Philippine Navy seizes US$175 million meth haul at sea

(Philippine Navy pic) MANILA: The Philippine Navy seized an illegal drug shipment worth 10 billion pesos (US$175 million) on Friday in one of the country's biggest narcotics hauls on record, officials said. A pair of naval gunboats intercepted a fishing vessel carrying 1.5 tonnes of methamphetamine hydrochloride off the coast of main island Luzon just before dawn, Commodore Edward de Sagon told a press conference. Advertisement Four people, including one foreigner, were arrested in the joint operation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, according to de Sagon. 'We still don't have the details of where (the drugs originated),' he said, saying they believed the haul had been transferred from a larger vessel to the fishing ship. 'That was when it was intercepted. There was information and (manoeuvres) that made us suspicious,' de Sagon said. Meth, known locally as shabu, is the most prevalent illegal drug in the Philippines. Earlier this month, a large volume of drugs was found adrift just north of the area where Wednesday's arrests were made. 'That is the judge's decision, and the Attorney General's. I do not interfere,' he said briefly when approached by reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Kampung Seri Aman today. Advertisement Earlier, Judge K Muniandy allowed the defence's application for a DNAA, citing the prosecution's lack of preparedness to proceed with trial proceedings, which have been marked by persistent postponements since 2019. The court was informed that the prosecution had yet to obtain the necessary documentary evidence. The delay, the judge noted, had denied the accused the right to a fair and timely resolution of the case.
