
Two out-of-towners charged with racing in Barrie's south end

Two men face charges after police say they were caught racing on a street in Barrie's south end over the weekend.
According to local authorities, two vehicles were spotted travelling at high speeds on Mapleview Drive East around 8:30 Saturday morning.
Police say both drivers are 30-year-old men from Waterloo. They are charged with racing a motor vehicle and speeding, and one was found to have no vehicle insurance.
The involved vehicles were towed to impound yards where they will remain at the owner's expense for 14 days as a result of the racing charges. Both men were also handed 30-day licence suspensions.

Police say they responded to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle in the area of Humberline Drive and Albion Road shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday. The northbound lanes of Humberline Drive are closed at Claireville Drive, and the eastbound lanes of Albion Road are closed at Steinway Boulevard for an investigation, police said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). SUV rolls into B.C. lake, police say alcohol a factor
Mounties in Port Alberni say five people managed to escape a vehicle after it rolled into Sproat Lake early Sunday. Around 12:22 a.m., the SUV went off the Taylor Main Forest Service Road and 'rolled multiple times down an embankment and into the lake,' according to police. The occupants, four men and one woman, got out of the car and met paramedics on the road, police said, adding they all suffered 'some injuries' but are expected to recover. 'Officers are still investigating the collision but do believe alcohol to be a factor,' RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano said in a news release. 'If anyone has more information or has yet to speak with officers, please contact the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424 and quote file 2025-6092.'

One dead, one hospitalized after stabbing in North York: police
Toronto police investigating after two people were stabbed in North York on Sunday June 22, 2025 (CP24 photo). A man has died after two people were reportedly stabbed near Wilson Ave. and Beverly Hills Dr. just after noon on Sunday. Police say officers responded to the area and located two victims with stab wounds. One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. The second victim was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims are men in their 50s, Acting Insp. Todd Jocko told reporters Sunday evening. 'Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of first responders and medical staff, that male was sadly pronounced deceased at the hospital,' Jocko said. tps Police say a 70-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene in connection with the incident. It's unclear what led up to the stabbing or what relationship the suspect may have had with the victims, but police say the investigation is ongoing. 'There is going to be an increased police presence here,' Jocko said. 'There is no ongoing threat to the public and no outstanding suspects at this time.' Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
