When it was first announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran were taking over DC Films, and that an entirely new DC Universe would launch from that, fans had a lot of questions. While it soon became clear we would get a new Superman and a new Batman, the future of other major DC characters was a lot less clear, most notably, Wonder Woman. It seems that's really starting to change, though.
The first Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins was one of DC's biggest hits in the previous franchise, and yet, the original unveiling of James Gunn's first chapter of the DCU had no specific path forward for the Amazonian. In a recent conversation with EW, however, Gunn confirms that not only is a new Wonder Woman movie planned, it's currently in development. Gunn said...
We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now.
Considering Wonder Woman's popularity and previous success, it was a bit surprising that she hadn't been mentioned in the first batch of upcoming DC movies. Fans will now certainly have a lot of questions about what the plan is for this new movie, but they'll surely be happy to hear that it's happening. While the movie is apparently being written, Gunn does not mention who is actually penning it. This isn't unusual, of course. For instance, it's known that a DCU Batman movie is also being written, and a writer for that film hasn't been revealed either.
As for the bigger plan aspect of this, the movie isn't the only piece of the new DCU connected to Wonder Woman. Gunn confirmed that the previously announced Wonder Woman-adjacent project, Paradise Lost, a prequel series set on the island of Thymascira, WW's home, but set long before her time, was still in development. Gunn called the series "slow-moving" but assured that it is still moving forward.
Originally, with the prequel series announced without a directWonder Woman project, it seemed the series was likely designed to stand alone. With a movie now confirmed to be in development, one wonders if there may now be more direct connections between the two pieces of the franchise.
When it comes to the film, the next big question, of course, will be just who is going to play Wonder Woman. Gunn made it clear that decision has not been made. He has previously said casting isn't considered until a script is finished. Casting somebody new in the role would seem to be the most likely scenario but, as some actors from the previous DC franchise are set to return in the new one, the return of Gal Gadot cannot be entirely discounted.
There were plans for a Wonder Woman 3 starring Gadot before the franchise reboot took place. For a while, there have been conflicting reports regarding who ultimately walked away from the project first. Nevertheless, I'm excited that James Gunn and co. are moving full steam ahead in order to craft a new version of the Amazonian warrior for the DCU.

Body Language Expert Says Prince William "Sad and Subdued," as Royal Aides Claim Kate Middleton Missing Royal Ascot Is "No Cause for Alarm"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Royal fans were shocked when Kate Middleton canceled her appearance at Royal Ascot on June 18 at the very last minute. Former royal butler Grant Harrold suggested Prince William would "definitely feel the void" of Kate's absence, via Spin Genie. Now, palace insiders are setting the record straight about Princess Kate's decision to skip Royal Ascot, while a body language expert has weighed in on the Prince of Wales's solo appearance. At the time, royal sources said the Princess of Wales was extremely "disappointed" to miss the prestigious event, but she needed "to find the right balance as she continues her recovery from cancer and a phased return to full duties," via The Sunday Times's royal editor, Roya Nikkhah, on X. However, GB News has since reported that "palace insiders moved quickly to quell any speculation, insisting the situation stemmed from administrative confusion rather than health concerns." As reported by GB News, "Royal sources stressed there was 'no cause for alarm' and that Kate was adhering to the guidance previously given about finding the right equilibrium in her duties." As for how an alleged mistake about Princess Kate's attendance could have occurred, GB News stated, "The administrative mix-up unfolded when Ascot executives released the day's procession list at midday, listing both the Prince and Princess of Wales in the second carriage behind The King and Queen." It would seem that, according to palace insiders, the Princess of Wales had chosen to skip Royal Ascot long before the public became aware of her decision. Body language expert Judi James analyzed Prince William's appearance at Royal Ascot on June 18, telling the Express, "While his father, The King, chatted happily to their guest in the carriage, using some animated, good-humored body language displays, William seemed to sit back quietly with a slightly slumped posture, looking subdued and rather reflective without Kate at his side." James told the outlet that the Prince of Wales appeared to be "sad and subdued" at the regal event.

James Gunn Offers Update on DC's PARADISE LOST Series and It's Connection to WONDER WOMAN Movie — GeekTyrant
DC fans eager to revisit Themyscira, you're in luck, DC Studios is still developing its Paradise Lost series. The show is set on Wonder Woman's mythic island home, and in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn gave a small but welcome update on the project and how it fits into the broader DCU, especially when it comes to the newly revealed Wonder Woman movie. 'Paradise Lost is moving along. It's slow-moving, but it's moving. And, yeah, I really love that project a lot.' When asked whether the series is connected to the upcoming Wonder Woman film, Gunn got a little… well, Gunn-ish: 'Yes. Well, yes and no. Wonder Woman's a separate thing. We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now. So it's different. I mean, not different. They're connected. She's from f—ing Themyscira, so…' What we do know is that Paradise Lost is still coming, even if it won't feature Diana at all. It's meant to take place long before her birth and will explore the politics, power struggles, and mythology of Themyscira itself. Gunn has previously described the show as a kind of DCU-flavored Game of Thrones , a political fantasy thriller set in a paradise that isn't as peaceful as it looks. The show was originally announced in January 2023 as part of the first slate of the DCU reboot, and it's believed to take inspiration from the Paradise Island Lost comic arc by Phil Jimenez and George Pérez. While the creative teams for Paradise Lost and the untitled Wonder Woman movie haven't been revealed, Gunn did confirm for the first time that 'Wonder Woman's being written right now.' With Superman set to launch the new DCU on July 11th, all eyes are now on how the rest of the slate will take shape, including when we'll finally set foot on Themyscira again. Until then, we wait.

'Superman' Director Teases Batman's Appearance in Upcoming Film
'Superman' Director Teases Batman's Appearance in Upcoming Film originally appeared on Parade. As audience members count down the days to the release of Superman, director James Gunn is fielding certain long-standing questions about the future fate of the DCU. Rebooting the DC Universe from the ground up, the 58-year-old Gunn has had his hands full plotting out the course of DC's cinematic trajectory. But as speculation runs rampant about the rumors of projects centered around Batman, Wonder Woman or Green Lantern, the former Guardians of the Galaxy is sharing his candid thoughts on each character's presence in the DCU. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn specifically discussed the significant wait behind a solo Batman film, referring to the character as the "biggest issue in all of DC right now." 'Batman has to have a reason for existing, right?" Gunn said. "So Batman can't just be 'Oh, we're making a Batman movie because Batman's the biggest character in all of Warner Bros.,' which he is." "I'm not interested in a funny, campy Batman, really," the director continued. "So we're dealing with that. I think I have a way in, by the way. I think I really know what it's — I just am dealing with the writer to make sure that we can make it a reality.' Earlier this year, a DCU-oriented Batman film entered production. Titled The Brave and the Bold, the project will follow the Caped Crusader as he struggles to connect with his estranged son, Damian. Meanwhile, Gunn continues to oversee development of a sequel to director Matt Reeves' The Batman. As the film slowly chugs along in its early production phases, Gunn also discussed the potential for Robert Pattinson's iteration of the Dark Knight to appear in the DCU -- a prospect Gunn called unlikely, but also not impossible. "I would never say zero, because you just never know," Gunn said. "But it's not likely. It's not likely at all."
