Ex-NFL Player Expects Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf's Ego's to Clash in Pittsburgh

Yahoo3 days ago

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is well-known to call out teammates publicly. That was the case last season when he threw Mike Williams under the bus. He called out Williams for running the wrong route — as he should've ran the 'red line.'
Former NFL defensive end and two-time Super Bowl champion Chris Long expects some commotion this season between Rodgers and All-Pro wide receiver DK Metcalf.

'When he was in New York — and I'm not taking a shot, but I don't love seeing stuff that should be worked out in the locker room, worked out on podcast,' Long said on The Rich Eisen Show. 'Metcalf has not always been the most surgical route runner. You talk about if we end up in a situation where somebody's not on the right side of the 'red line', famously, infamously, I could see some stuff like that happening — and the growing pains being tough.'
Metcalf is chomping at the bit to learn from the four-time NFL MVP quarterback.
'Just how cerebral he is and how he views the game,' Metcalf said at minicamp last week. 'I like the way he views the game from a receiver's standpoint, but also from a quarterback's standpoint. I think I can gain a lot of knowledge just from being around him because he's seen a lot of football. Just trying to soak up as much information as I can.'
DK Metcalf believes Rodgers' skillset fits his game perfectly.

'How quickly he releases the ball and me getting off the line of scrimmage fast is one thing that stands out first,' he said.

Metcalf said Rodgers has already played trivia with him, basically naming players and asking where they went to college. The two have formed a close bond since their throwing session with each other at UCLA in March.
Rodgers raved about Metcalf during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show in April.
'I've had a few conversations with DK and I just think he's a super guy,' Rodgers said. '… I wanted to see how it felt to throw with DK, how the juices felt, and how the ball came out, just all those little things. And also just get to know DK. Like I said, that's a really good human being. From the first conversation I had with them, he was saying 'yes sir' and 'no sir.' Just cause I'm old? No, that's just how he talks. He's just a really respectful dude and an absolute specimen. He's accomplished a lot in the league, and I'm enjoyed getting to know him a little bit, enjoyed throwing to him. What a talented guy he is.'

Metcalf plans on training with Rodgers in Malibu prior to the start of training camp in late July.
'Yes, sir. We're both based out of California, so yeah,' Metcalf said. 'I planned on getting together with him before, just watching film or just talking ball.'
Rodgers and Metcalf are at the honeymoon phase now, but that could change this season when the two face adversity.
Metcalf is an emotional player, and Rodgers is certainly not afraid to express his opinion on matters.

Bills' Michael Hoecht: Super Bowl title would mean 'everything' to him

In little surprise, Michael Hoecht gets it. The pass rusher signed with the Buffalo Bills during free agency this offseason. He does have to face a suspension early on next season, but Hoecht is going to be chomping at the bit to get his Bills career going. Advertisement That's because Hoecht completely understands what the Bills and a potential Super Bowl means to Buffalo. Despite already having won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, it sounds like one with the Bills would be even bigger for Hoecht. That's because Hoecht is a close local to western New York as an Oakville, Ontario, native. Hoecht said during minicamp that bringing a title to Buffalo would be a massive achievement and credited Bills Mafia as his reason why a Super Bowl win would mean so much. Hoecht's explanation can be found in the clip below: This article originally appeared on Bills Wire: Bills' Michael Hoecht: Super Bowl title would mean 'everything' to him

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams takes harsh jab at Packers fans

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams didn't mince words when talking about Green Bay Packers fans at Fanatics on Friday. Williams, 23, was asked which team's fans he has had the most negative experiences with, and the Bears quarterback was quick to point to the fanbase of the Bears' biggest rival. "Probably Green Bay," Williams said. "I mean, they suck. After the game, after we won at Lambeau — 1-0 at Lambeau — we tried to do the Lambeau Leap, tried to jump into the crowd where our fans were." "[Packers fans] just started throwing everything at you, push you off. The Lambeau Leap, it's a real leap. It's not a little baby jump, you actually have to high jump, basically. And they're pushing you, pushing your face." The Bears last season started the season 4-2, and then they proceeded to lose their next 10 games. They snapped the losing streak in Week 18 against the Packers in Lambeau Field. Williams was efficient in the win, as he was 21 of 29 passing with 148 yards with a touchdown pass. Despite the Bears' struggles last season, Williams's play has given Bears' fans hope that he might be the franchise quarterback they have desperately yearned for. After being selected with the No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of USC, Williams started all 17 games while he completed 62.5% of his passes for 3,541 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. The first time the Bears play the Packers next season and deal with their fans will be at Lambeau Field on Dec. 7, and then the Bears will host the Packers just two weeks later on Dec. 20. NFL Insider Says Dolphins Nearing Jalen Ramsey Trade

NFL Insider Says Dolphins Nearing Jalen Ramsey Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Dolphins have been trying to send Jalen Ramsey and his $72-plus million contract packing since April of this year. According to Bleacher Report, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN says the team is nearing a deal. Advertisement "This is the next domino to drop league-wide when you talk to other teams, this is the next big move that is anticipated around the NFL," Fowler reported. The Los Angeles Rams are the one team that has shown interest in the veteran cornerback, but Rams head coach Sean McVay noted that there were "obstacles" that prevented a deal from being finalized at this point. Fowler named the Rams as a team "in the mix" with the most interest. "That's a team that others have identified as just the perfect fit," Fowler said. "You know, they have a need, they're familiar with the player, they won a Super Bowl with him, so we'll see." Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey (5) meets with Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (10) following the game at SoFi A. Vasquez-Imagn Images There is one big roadblock, and it is the same issue that is believed to be an obstacle that Sean McVay described. Advertisement That obstacle is contract he signed last fall with Miami. The 30-year-old Ramsey is due a boatload of guaranteed money this upcoming season, more than $20 million. "Teams have a hard time reconciling how much they're gonna have to pay at that contract," Fowler said. Fowler also said that the Rams are not the only team in the mix. That means at some point a cornerback-needy team will come calling. Speculation remains as to how long that will take, varying from a mid-season trade to a deal in the coming weeks of the NFL offseason.
