Coronation Street icon who left soap after 25 years lands exciting new role

Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver may have only just left her role as Eileen Grimshaw on the cobbles, but already she has her next job lined up.
Eileen left Weatherfield for a new life in Thailand earlier this month, after confessing that she had fallen out of love with George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley).
Having been given the chance to invest in son Jason Grimshaw's bar, Eileen decided to make her trip to Thailand permanent.
Sue announced her exit at the beginning of the year, explaining that she wanted to try new things.
'The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures, and live fearlessly,' Sue said.
Now, she is doing just that as she joins the cast of Snake in the Grass at the Theatr Clwyd and Octagon Theatre Bolton.
She is set to star alongside Nicola Stephenson and Lisa Zahra when the production hits the stage this autumn.
Sue spent 25 years on Coronation Street, and previously revealed that she was 'privileged' to have done so.
Talking to Metro at the British Soap Awards, Sue's co-star Gareth Pierce, who plays on-screen son Todd Grimshaw, opened up about her departure.

'It's so sad,' he told me. 'Sue's amazing and she really welcomed me in, as well. I screen-tested with Sue as well as with Dan Brocklebank and Peter Ash when I was coming in and that was probably one of the things that got me the job was that they both treated it as we were just filming those scenes by that stage. 'I was so lucky that Sue was so generous that we fell into the mother/son dynamic very easily. That's testament to her as much as anything that I did.
'We're hugely going to miss Sue. She's brilliant. Eileen is such an iconic character. But I think she's also a brilliantly equipped actress to see what else is out there. I think it's been a burning desire of Sue's for a while. I think she'll be brilliant in whatever she does.'

Stephanie failed to mention her baby's dad Joseph in her emotional post on social media on the honoured day. And instead she shared a photograph alongside her own father, alongside a touching tribute. Now, in a new emotional video, which shows her journey with her baby, Stephanie hasn't mentioned Joe again. And she appears to suggest that's is just her and the kids now. Especially with the poignant line "Everything I do is for you and your brother and I will always be here every single day for you, cheering you on." Stephanie captioned the adorable video: "This Day 5 months ago you came into this world. "Only 5 months old today ( I know he's still a tiny baby) It's crazy to think he's not been out in this world as long as he was in my tummy. "From nearly losing you in the beginning, the worst pregnancy, I couldn't walk with pelvic girdle trapped in the house for months & months. "A terrible birth, then lifting doing every night feed lifting after a C-section , then your breathing episodes which was the scariest time of my life, it's been a long hard traumatic road. The former Hollyoaks star previously revealed the birth was "tough" and they suffered a scary ordeal at the start of April when Samuel stopped breathing. The traumatic episode left him requiring hospital treatment. Joe and Stephanie welcomed their son at the beginning of the year following a devastating miscarriage in 2022 at three months pregnant. Speaking about their loss, she explained: "The anxiety, the heartbreak and the sadness we have gone through was horrendous. "Me and Joe were so excited and already had visioned and planned a life with our family of four. "I was already looking at what I was doing for my baby shower. "You think when you get further on like I was that everything will be ok, so it was a big shock." Hollyoaks star talks major change to soap and teases Clare and Mercedes twist

Hollyoaks favourite Jennifer Metcalfe told The Mirror all about a huge change she's noticed to the soap and the support from fans, as she teased an unexpected Clare and Mercedes twist One Hollyoaks icon has nothing but praise for loyal fans of the Channel 4 soap, after a surge in support and "noise" since some big changes were made. Actress Jennifer Metcalfe told The Mirror how in the past year or so, she's noticed more support than ever from viewers, amid some massive storylines. The soap made some big changes in the past year, from cast and crew cuts to dropping episodes and being heavily digital. ‌ During what was a no doubt worrying time for the cast and crew, the show has delivered some huge plots and episodes - some of which earned them some awards at the British Soap Awards just last month. Mercedes McQueen took centre stage in a cancer storyline that aired some of the most moving and important scenes ever to be shown on the soap. ‌ Now, actress Jennifer has shared her reaction to the support for her and her storyline, but also for Hollyoaks overall. She confessed that over the past decade or just under, it felt to those on the show that the buzz around the soap had died down, and perhaps people weren't as interested in the soap anymore. But since the transformation, the cast have been overwhelmed with the constant hype and online support for the characters and the episodes. Jennifer also said fans messaging her over Mercedes' health battle has "been amazing". She shared: "It has been amazing, honestly. There has been more noice around this show this year than in the past eight years. The feeling amongst us over the last few years was that maybe people didn't care as much." "Since Hannah Cheers [Executive Producer] has done the big turn around there has been such massive support." Jennifer also teased the big 30th episodes, while she couldn't give much away as much of it was being kept under wraps for now. What she did say though as that some changes had been made to plans, while she's also suspicious over a sudden flurry of scenes with one character in particular. She said: "Me and Anya Lawrence [who plays Vicky Grant] have had random scenes together that we never get." ‌ As Anya told us and Jennifer: "We never normally have this there's been some nice surprises in the scripts," Jennifer added: "We don't know if that's something coming up for the big 30th or not. "I say don't tell me cos I am a blabbermouth so I say don't tell me the storylines. But I don't know yet what's happening with it, I've heard they've changed their minds a few times but that's all they are telling us." ‌ The actress also promised more scenes with long-time rival and returning character Clare Devine. She promised Mercedes and Clare would be back with the fiery showdowns, but she also teased something unexpected would happen for them. Of her co-star Gemma Bissix she told us: "She's a force to be reckoned with on and off screen. The energy she brings to the building it's beautiful. The character is so iconic. There's always a decent clash with her and Mercedes. "But they do find some middle ground, something they can both kind of bond over this time, even if half of it is a lie. You get that softness out of the two characters. With Mercedes and Clare we see a softer side to their relationship dare I say, and fiery stuff as well." Hollyoaks is available to stream on Channel 4's streaming service now, while it also airs Mondays to Wednesdays on E4 at 7PM. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.
