Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver shares update on 'misunderstood' health battle as she admits to feeling 'faint while filming' after bidding farewell to the ITV soap after 25 years

Sue Cleaver has shared a new health update after leaving Coronation Street following a 25 year stint on the show. The soap star, 61, known for playing Eileen Grimshaw since 2000, said goodbye to Weatherfield in an episode that aired earlier this month. But behind the cameras, the actress has been battling Type 2 diabetes for over 20 years, which at times caused her to feel faint while filming. Sue now credits the use of a continuous glucose monitor called Dexcom with helping her take back control of her health. In a new interview with The Sun, she said: 'I think there is a lot of misunderstanding around diabetes, people tell you can't eat chocolate or sugar - but where I struggle with my diabetes is when I'm about to go on stage or when I'm about to go on Loose Women or live shows. 'Before I go on I'd have to prick my finger and check if my sugar is stable enough to get me to the interval or do I need to eat.' Sue confessed that there were moments on set when she felt 'faint' during filming. She explained: 'If I'm about to go on stage or live shows and I don't know if I'm going to make it if my sugars aren't stable enough, and I don't have time to prick my finger, you tend to think 'let me eat this thing now' and then you tend to feel the effects of it later or the middle of the show.' It comes after Sue insisted that her 'body doesn't define her' as she opened up about her incredible three stone weight loss. The star also admitted she was still learning to battle 'negative thoughts' about her appearance after embracing a healthier lifestyle and regular work outs. Last year, she told Bella: 'My body is now who I am. My body will change, my size will go up and down and I don't define myself or get involved in any of those conversations around it'. 'What's more important is to do the work on the inside. I'm changing how I live, doing things differently, thats that I thought I didn't like, and changing myself'. Sue continued: 'The trouble is when you've got negative thoughts you hang onto them. So it's learning not to take those thoughts so seriously. In March 2024, Sue discussed her weight loss after participating in Dry January the year before (no alcohol for the month). She said: 'I lost 18lb [in 2022's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here]. I'd already lost a stone and a half that year, because I gave up booze. I did Dry January and then I decided to carry on. 'I know it sounds ridiculous at my age, but I never really thought about how many calories I was consuming when I was having a glass of red wine while cooking dinner and then a couple more while eating it. 'If you're doing that four or five nights a week, that's a lot of calories.' Last year Sue revealed that since entering her 60s she feels that the world is now her 'oyster after years of alcohol dependency. Telling Prima: 'There are so many people my age who I speak to that are depressed about reaching 60. You feel like this is the end of the line, that everything goes down from here. And I absolutely don't feel that way. 'I just feel like the world really is my oyster now, and there's so much available out there. There's so much that you can do.' She also revealed in the candid interview how her reliance on alcohol has lessened as she gets older, explaining: 'I don't have any fear around alcohol any more, and that is really freeing.' 'I never imagined getting to that state. I thought I had a dependency. I thought I couldn't get by without having a glass of wine at night.' 'I thought life wouldn't be great without a glass of wine. It would be absolutely great without wine. I just thought it wouldn't. It's the thinking around it that is the problem.'

Corrie's Sue Cleaver shares if she will move to rival soap after ITV exit

Sue Cleaver has played Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street for 25 years but quit the role earlier this year. She has now revealed if she will ever appear on a rival soap Former Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has revealed if she will ever appear on a rival soap following her final appearance as Eileen Grimshaw airing earlier this month. The 61-year-old actress announced her decision to bid farewell to Weatherfield at the start of this year, after an impressive 25 years on the ITV soap. At the time, she issued a heartfelt statement: "I've had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street," adding further, "The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly." ‌ Sue hasn't been idle during her tenure on the Street – she took a hiatus to tread the boards as Mother Superior in Sister Act before gracing our screens as a panellist on ITV's Loose Women in 2024. ‌ She also enjoyed a stint on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Back in 2022. But now she has the time to commit to other projects, will Sue be popping up on a rival soap like Coronation Street or EastEnders? It's not unheard of for actors to pop up in multiple soap universes, with the likes of Denise Welch and Michelle Collins appearing on both EastEnders and Coronation Street. Speaking in a new interview, Sue says she is "chuffed" with her Corrie legacy, and believes she was given "a wonderful send off" but admits she is ready to "live fearlessly." "I think people forget that you either have courage or you don't, courage is a muscle, start really small and put yourself out of your comfort zone for a couple of minutes a day, enquire about a book club or evening class, because that muscle really does," the actress muses. Sue continues to recall to The Sun how filming her final scenes "was really weird feeling, but it felt right" and it was "the right time" to go. She is now ready to take advantage of her new found "freedom" after spending over two decades at ITV. ‌ "I love doing Loose Women, there are other things I want to do and there is a lot more of the world I want to see," Sue admits. But when it comes to going over to the dark side and popping into The Queen Vic or the Woolpack, Sue is adamant that she is still loyal to Corrie. She rules out appearing on another soap "at this stage" as she is still "very committed to Corrie", adding: "I've been incredibly fortunate and it gave me the opportunity that not many actresses have, to be at home, to be there for my son in the morning and put him to bed at night and to have a proper home life, whereas normally you have to go where the work is. I've been extremely fortunate, it's not lost on me how lucky I've been, it has a big place in my heart." ‌ Speaking to the Mirror in May, Sue opened up on her decision to have co-star Ryan Thomas return for her final episodes, as his character Eileen's son Jason Grimshaw makes a huge offer. Sue shared: "Ryan was there from the start, and he was inconveniently living in Thailand, and it wouldn't be too far of a jump to expect that if Eileen was going to make a leap, that she would involve her son. "And so when I decided to leave, like over a year ago, I rang Ryan, and I said, 'Ryan, I'm going to tell them that I'm going, and if they ask me about exits, I'd really like to say that you'd come back and take me out, but I don't know whether they'd go for it or not'. "And he just went, 'Oh my gosh, of course, I would', which was so lovely for me. And it was just so nice to have him back and filming those final scenes with him. It just felt like I'd come full circle really."

Coronation Street star in shock comeback months after quitting cobbles – and will clash with love rival

CORONATION Street is bringing back a fan-favourite character for a long stint this summer - and she's already started filming. The ITV soap has tempted scene-stealer Amy Robbins to reprise her role as Christina Boyd for a major new storyline. 2 2 Actress Amy made her apparently final exit as the nightmare mother of former Rovers barmaid Daisy Midgeley earlier this year as part of Daisy's exit storyline. But now The Sun can exclusively reveal that Amy is back playing Christina once again - and she'll be back on screen soon. A source said: 'Amy is back and has returned to filming. 'Obviously with Charlotte leaving it would have been easy to think you'd never see her again but the character is so juicy that everyone jumped at the chance to have her back. 'Christina will be back to her usual tricks causing chaos on the cobbles. 'There's going to be some incredible scenes with her and Jenny clashing. 'And this time she's back for a long stint. She returned to filming recently and she'll be back on screen later this summer. 'It's definitely going to be explosive.' Christina was last seen on the cobbles in May when her daughter Daisy got the better of her and took Jenny Connor's money for herself. While Daisy is now living the life of riley abroad on the cash, Christina was left penniless after trying to double-cross her daughter. And she'll be back in Weatherfield to come face to face with Jenny once more.

Coronation Street star devastated as business burns down in fire

Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote, 34, has been left devastated after her business burned down in a fire. The Katy Armstrong actress has been working as a nail technician alongside acting for the past four years, and took to Instagram to share the news. 'Unfortunately my beautiful little studio was affected by a huge fire within the storage world unit in Middleton last night,' she explained. 'Not only has my business burnt down, but so has many other peoples. Along with peoples most loved possessions. My heart goes out to them all. 'Even though as beauticians we can move into a new space, our stock and tools, which we spend years collecting have all gone. We can no longer work. My friends and fellow beauticians have to literally start again. With no way of even making the money to buy these tools. Some of them have children. 'I am asking if you could please help us all by just giving a little towards helping my friends rebuild their businesses. We would be eternally grateful. 'Fire is the most devastating thing. Thousands of pounds of stock has gone in seconds,' she concluded. Georgia starred as Katy Armstrong on the cobbles from 2010 until 2015. During her time in Weatherfield, Katy fathered son Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) and had an affair with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott, played at the time by Sol Heras). In 2017, she was killed in an off-screen car crash while living in Portugal. In an Instagram Q&A last year, a fan asked if Katy was 'disappointed' that her character was killed off. More Trending 'I wouldn't say disappointed at all,' she replied. 'I'm one of those people when I leave a job I'm ready for the next adventure. Coronation Street viewers warn fan favourite to ‘run' as they predict shock emotional abuse storyline

FRUSTRATED Coronation Street fans have begged Todd to bin Theo - and predicted what dark proceedings are about to unfold. Corrie viewers have taken to social media to warn much-loved character Todd to escape from Theo's clutches while he can. 5 5 Coronation Street viewers have watched Theo (James Cartwright) take Weatherfield - and Todd - by storm. And Former bad boy Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) appears to be getting in even deeper, hotter water with new flame, Theo. After putting Theo's phone on airplane mode to try and help him relax on the night out, Todd feels the wrath of the hunky hot-headed scaffolder - who has missed multiple calls from the hospital about his daughter. Todd tried to explain: "It was a stupid thing to do. I was eager for you to have a good time, for us both to have a good time. I didn't think..." Theo responded: "No, you didn't think. You didn't think. You don't have kids, do you? So it's all about you, yeah. Some of us don't have that luxury." "Let me help you..." requested Todd. An aggressive Theo shouted: "Don't you touch me! I'm gonna go to A&E, right? "And if you ever come near me again, I'll knock your teeth out. You make me sick." Forecasting a shock emotional abuse storyline between them, fans have warned the undertaker assistant to run for the hills. "Please find a great guy for Todd so he can have a nurturing, lasting relationship. Drop Theo. He's toxic," wrote one distressed fan. Emmerdale star Natalie Anderson joins Coronation Street as Theo's secret wife "And the worst part about this episode? Theo. Get RID TODD PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS," begged a second. A third agreed: "Theo isn't in the headspace to be in a relationship and anyone with eyes could see that. Todd should see that. He shouldn't be in a relationship with Theo at all especially with all this emotional abuse when Theo loses his s***." Another viewer noted: "I feel sorry for Todd, Theo is a pain in the a***!" A different fan advised: "Todd, dump Theo and get with James... who obviously fancies you." "I like Todd and think he's deserves someone better than Theo. He can't make his mind up which side to bat for," noted a viewer. "Get rid of Theo! Get Todd a nice fella," wrote another. "Todd is way too good for Theo. I know Theo is traumatised, conversion therapy is awful, but he's going to end up hurting Todd badly, maybe even by accident," predicted one fan. "Theo needs to get a grip," barked one blunt user. Coronation Street fans were stunned to learn Todd's new scaffolder beau had a wife and teenage daughter. Theo's family were torn apart after his wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson) caught him and Todd passionately kissing. Theo is one of a trio of new characters to shake up the cobbles in a series of explosive storylines. 5 5 5
