RTE admission completed at 88% in MP
Indore: With the Right to Education (RTE) Act's first round of admissions drawing to a close on Tuesday, Madhya Pradesh achieved an overall 88% admission rate under the scheme. According to the state education department's latest report released on Tuesday, 73,509 out of 83,483 students allotted seats in private schools under RTE completed the admission process by the deadline on Tuesday.
In Indore district, out of 5,126 students, 4,186 confirmed their admissions, marking an 82% completion rate. A total of 4,859 students confirmed their admissions out of 5,612 seats allotted, resulting in an 87% completion rate. Jabalpur follows closely with 2,764 admissions against 2,931 seat allotments (87%).
Other major districts such as Gwalior, with 2,946 allotted seats, saw 2,418 students complete admissions (82%), and Ujjain saw 2,906 of its 3,353 seats filled (87%).
Dewas reported an 89% completion rate, with 2,244 admissions out of 2,534 allotted seats.
On the other hand, some districts with smaller application numbers recorded significantly high admission percentages. Seoni achieved a 94% completion rate, while Mandla, Pandhurna, and Anuppur all achieved 93%.
Among the lower-performing districts are Morena, with 81% admissions (1,490 out of 1,842), and Sheopur, with only 83% admissions completed.

Tuesday was the last date for students to confirm their admission in the respective schools allotted under the RTE quota. As per the rules, students who did not report for the allotted seats by Tuesday would have their seats cancelled. Education department officials said that the second round of admissions will be announced soon for the remaining seats to be filled.
The RTE Act, 2009 mandates free and compulsory education to children from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds in private unaided schools. The scheme continues to serve as a major step towards inclusive education in the state.
Tuesday, being the last day of admissions reporting, saw a number of students reporting for admissions confirmation at popular private schools across the state.

Dept speeds up appointment of guest teachers in Chamarajanagar
Mysuru: To address the shortage of teaching staff in govt primary and high schools, the department of school education and literacy expedited the appointment of 765 guest teachers across Chamarajanagar. The move aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the schools during the academic year. The process will help the department conduct classes hassle-free without any disturbance to students related to teaching aspects. The district bagged the 27th rank in the SSLC results. This year, the department had made all plans to improve the SSLC results and focus on public exams for 8th class students by giving special attention to guest teacher recruitment. Speaking to TOI, deputy director of public Instruction Ramachandra Raje Urs said that he gave directions to all block education officers to speed up the recruitment of guest teachers. The department also continued the services of most of the guest teachers from the previous year after considering their performance subject-wise. The process is completed in most schools. A clear direction was given to reject candidates bringing recommendation letters, he said. "As govt started the process of appointment of guest teachers to primary and high schools early, it will help students prepare for exams," said Revanna, a retired teacher of Chilakwadi village.

NMMC announces 501 dangerous buildings in Navi Mumbai
Navi Mumbai: A comprehensive survey conducted by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for 2025-2026 has identified as many as 501 dangerous buildings within its jurisdiction. These structures have been officially classified as hazardous under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. However, the number of such structures has reduced from last year's data of 527 which is attributed to ongoing redevelopment work of unsafe buildings. The classification includes 51 buildings in 'C-1' category deemed extremely dangerous and requiring immediate evacuation, whilst 104 structures fall under 'C-2A' category necessitating evacuation and structural repairs. Additionally, 297 structures are categorised as 'C-2B', requiring structural repairs without evacuation, and 49 buildings under 'C-3' category need minor repairs. "Citizens can access this information on under 'Departments', 'Encroachment Department', and 'General Information' sections. For public awareness, details of 51 'C-1' category buildings are highlighted in bold letters," said NMMC commissioner Kailas Shinde. Following Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, notices have been issued to owners and occupants, informing them about the dangerous status of their buildings. As per the Government Circular dated November 5, 2015, by Maharashtra Urban Development Department, utilities for 'C-1' category buildings will be disconnected. The corporation advises immediate cessation of residential/commercial activities and demolition of these dangerous structures to prevent potential loss of life and property. The notice explicitly states that NMMC bears no responsibility for damages resulting from building collapses, with liability falling solely on the occupants who fail to comply. The notice indicates the current occupancy status of each dangerous building. Residents must take appropriate action based on their building's classification, whether immediate evacuation or structural repairs. NMMC emphasises it will not be liable for any unfortunate incidents. The corporation particularly stresses the heightened risks during monsoon season. NMMC strongly urges citizens to cease occupation of these dangerous structures, stating that occupants will bear full responsibility for any unfortunate incidents that may occur. According to Section 265(A) of the Act, structures over 30 years old must undergo a mandatory structural assessment by a civil engineer or structural engineer registered with the corporation. The age calculation begins from the date the property was first occupied, either partially or fully. Property owners must submit certification confirming the completion of recommended repairs and the structure's sound condition. Section 398 (A) stipulates penalties for non-compliance, with fines of Rs 25,000 or the annual property tax amount, whichever is greater, for those who fail to conduct structural inspections.

Pune: As a sombre crowd gathered at Sant Tukaramnagar in Pimpri on Saturday to bid a final farewell to 22-year-old Irfan Shaikh , a crew member of the ill-fated Air India plane that crashed moments after takeoff in Ahmedabad on June 12, his mother, Taslim, sat frozen in grief, clinging to the coffin containing her son's lifeless body, her eyes fixed and hands trembling as if unwilling to let go of her child. With relatives and her husband Samir trying to console her, Taslim gazed at the coffin and and murmured, "How do I talk to him? He's in the box." The family performed the last rites at the Hazrat Bilal Eidgah cemetery in Nehrunagar, Pimpri Chinchwad, around 10am. Irfan's mortal remains were handed over to the family late Friday evening after DNA confirmation. The family brought the body to Pune airport around 7am on Saturday. A large crowd comprising relatives, friends and politicians from various parties gathered to pay their respects. The 22-year-old, who was very attached to his mother, made it a point to call his mother before every takeoff and after every landing. Having spoken to her before the ill-fated flight took off, the family knew he was on board when the crash occurred.
