Marcus Rashford responds as Man Utd team-mate pictured in Aston Villa shirt
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are both expected to leave Manchester United this summer and the pair have been linked with a host of clubs across Europe
Marcus Rashford has branded Alejandro Garnacho"my brother" after the Manchester United star shared a photo of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with his name and number on it. Both Garnacho and Rashford are expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with neither player part of Ruben Amorim's plans.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa after he was frozen out by Amorim, while Garnacho was told to find a new club after publicly voicing his frustration at being left out of the starting line-up for the Europa League final.
And Garnacho has raised eyebrows after he shared a series of snaps from his holiday to Ibiza, including one where he is wearing a Villa shirt with 'Rashford 9' on the back. Rashford also commented on the post, simply writing "My brother" followed by a love heart emoji.
According to BBC Sport, sources close to Garnacho have claimed that the post is 'merely a supportive one of his team-mate'. It comes after reports claimed that both Rashford and Garnacho are set to be left out of United's pre-season squad if they have not been sold before their trip to the US in July.
Rashford recently spoke out about his future in an interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz, admitting that he would like to play alongside Lamine Yamal at Barcelona. When asked about the prospect of being teammates with Yamal, Rashford replied: "Yeah, sure.
"Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we'll see. (Yamal) is gonna be… it's difficult to put into words what he's doing because he's not supposed to be doing it at 16, 17.
"He's playing at the highest level, I don't think we've seen it. To have his mentality is a skill. He's not normal to be doing what he does and he will keep improving. (The Ballon d'Or) If you look at it in football ability he has to win, but then you look at Ousmane Dembele, the Champions League.
"Spain is nice, it's not too far from home. If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather."
And Barcelona's sporting director Deco has previously admitted that the club is interested in Rashford, telling Catalan radio station RAC 1 in May: "We like Luis [Diaz], we like Rashford, and we like other players.
"Out of respect, talking about players who are under contract with other clubs is complicated. When we go to the market, there are names we know that could improve the team."

Celtic icon John Clark dies aged 84 as tributes pour in for European Cup winner
Celtic have announced the death of club legend John Clark aged 84. Clark's career with Celtic saw him play more than 300 games and win 15 major trophies the club, including six Scottish titles. The defender was an integral part of the Celtic team which became known as the 'Lisbon Lions'. In 1967, Jock Stein, they became the first British club to win the Europe Cup, now called the Champions League, beating Italian giants Inter Milan 2-1. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers paid tribute by saying: "Greatness is a word people throw around, but for John Clark it is a very fitting tribute. John was instrumental in delivering our greatest day ever and his achievement is forever etched in Celtic's proud history. "John's continued presence at Celtic across so many decades I know served as an absolute inspiration to so many players, managers and staff, including myself very much. "To have him with us, as part of the club for so long has been a tremendous privilege for us all, it meant so much to us. Through his knowledge, his wisdom and his true love for Celtic, John has made such an important contribution to the club. I know John was loved so dearly by his family, by everyone at the club and our supporters. We will all miss him so much." Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell added: "John's passing represents a massive loss to his own family and of course a huge loss to the wider Celtic family. A very dear friend and colleague, John was actually a hero to me and so many others, someone who achieved the greatest feat of all in club football but did so, along with his great team-mates with such grace and humility. "That famous day in Lisbon, which John was such an integral part of, changed our club forever. Ever since, each player who has passed through our club has stood on the shoulders of giants and John was certainly one of those giants. "John gave his life to Celtic both as a player and on our staff in a variety of his roles and his contribution to our great club over so many decades is immeasurable. John was a fantastic husband, father and grandfather. Such a warm, gentle, and unassuming man. "It was an absolute privilege to have known John. Rightly he will forever be regarded as one of Celtic's greatest ever servants. He will be someone we will all miss so dearly and we send all our love, our thoughts and prayers to John's family." Chief executive Michael Nicholson also commented: "I would like to offer all our sincere and heartfelt condolences to John's family on such a sad day. In losing John, we have all lost a dear friend, such a fine man and someone who gave Celtic everything over such a long time. "In a sense John was Celtic, on and off the pitch across so many years, contributing so much to our success at all times. While John was one of our greatest, he never saw himself as that, his own humility never allowing him to do so. "The whole Celtic family will mourn John's loss together, supporters and colleagues alike. We will ensure that we give John's family every support at such a difficult time." and Mirror Sport will bring you the very latest updates, pictures and video as soon as possible. check back regularly for updates on this developing story. on Google News, Flipboard, Apple News, Twitter, Facebook or visit The Mirror homepage.

The 'proven' striker Manchester United should sign instead of Viktor Gyokeres
Gary Pallister wants Manchester United to shelve their interest in Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen and prioritise an ambitious deal for the 'ideal striker signing'. Ruben Amorim has made a new striker one of his priorities for the summer transfer window after a desperately disappointing 2024-25 season. His United side finished just 15th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for any European competition after losing a low-quality Europa League final to Tottenham. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who cost more than £100m combined, endured miserable seasons at Old Trafford and neither appear to be at the required level to lead the line for Manchester United. Hojlund and Zirkzee have even been linked with moves away from the club this summer with the former believed to be keen on a switch to Inter Milan despite publicly declaring his intention to stay. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. United's pursuit of a new striker has led to transfer talks with Gyokeres, of Sporting Lisbon, and Osimhen, of Napoli. But Old Trafford legend Pallister has reservations about Gyokeres and Osimhen and says his former club should instead go all out for Alexander Isak. Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Newcastle United in 2022, scoring 54 goals in 86 league games. Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been linked with moves for Isak over the past 12 months but Newcastle value the 25-year-old at north of £125m. Isak would also need some convincing to leave Newcastle, who qualified for the Champions League last season and won the Carabao Cup, for a team that slumped to 15th in the table. Asked who Manchester United should target to solve their goalscoring issues out of Gyokeres, Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko, Pallister told Metro: 'Alexander Isak. He's the player that is proven in the Premier League. 'Listen I'm sure he's got teams in better state than United at the moment who would be in to sign him and Liverpool have reportedly declared interest in him so why wouldn't you go there when they've been as successful as they have been? 'But Isak would be the ideal Man United signing for me. I think it so important that you're proven in the Premier League because it's different to all the other leagues out there. 'If you've got a player who's been there and done it, he would be the man for me. Manchester United definitely need a goalscorer. 'Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both struggled last year. I don't think Zirkzee is an out and out number nine. There's a few clubs struggling for that centre forward.' Isak has another three years left on his current contract so Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position should rival clubs line up moves for their talisman. Gyokeres and Osimhen were two of the most prolific strikers in Europe last season but Pallister has doubts over both. Ex-Coventry City star Gyokeres has scored an incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting but is reportedly keen to join United's Premier League rivals Arsenal. That is despite enjoying a healthy relationship with Amorim, who he played under in Portugal before the manager left to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. Osimhen also enjoyed a superb 2024-25 campaign, netting 37 goals for loan club Galatasary. The Nigerian was close to joining Chelsea last summer but the deal collapsed and Osimhen was forced to explore other options after being exiled by Napoli boss Antonio Conte. Conte has instructed Napoli to offload Osimhen on a permanent transfer this summer and the 26-year-old has rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia as he dreams of playing in the Premier League. 'I've not seen an awful lot of Osimhen to be honest with you,' Pallister added. 'It was a strange one with him going to Galatasaray but he's scoring goals. 'So many clubs were interested in taking him, but he ended up going there. That concerns me. 'I saw Viktor Gyokeres at Coventry, he's scored goals in the Championship and at Sporting but it's a different kettle of fish playing in the Premier League. 'Whichever way they wish to go, it's going to be a bit of a gamble because they're not proven in this league. 'Ruben has worked with Gyokeres at Sporting, so he knows him and if he was to bring him in then he'd have to be confident in the fact that he's a fit for the Premier League. 'Ruben knows him well and hopefully he has a good insight into whether he could hack it in the Premier League but again it's about getting him across the line. 'He is supposed to be more interested in going to Arsenal and you can understand why. It is difficult times to bring in a proven goalscorer. 'When people are looking at Manchester United at the moment, as much as the lure of the club and the badge is there, it's a team that's going to be restarted. 'There will be a big reset at United in terms of the squad so players need to be happy coming into that.' While Manchester United target new signings – they have already confirmed a deal for Matheus Cunha and are in talks with Bryan Mbeumo – they are also keen to offload a number of unwanted players from Amorim's squad. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony have all been put up for sale and Pallister hopes they all find new clubs before next season. Rashford is believed to be 'dreaming' of a move to Barcelona after spending the second-half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. Sancho is keen to join Serie A champions Napoli following his loan spell at Chelsea, while Antony could take a pay cut to seal a permanent transfer to Real Betis. 'It would be nice if it was all sorted and those three players did find themselves new clubs,' said Pallister, who won four Premier League titles at Old Trafford. 'I think Ruben Amorim has looked at those players and he's quite happy for them to go. There are no real noises coming out from Old Trafford that they want them to stay. 'It needs an overhaul in terms of the mentality and attitude at Old Trafford. You can't finish fifth bottom of the Premier League. 'That's going to bring its own pressure next year, and you've got to have a team that's going to fight tooth and nail every game and change the dynamic at Old Trafford. More Trending 'We're a figure of fun at the moment for a lot of people who are enjoying Manchester United being down where they are and suffering the way they are. 'That's something we knew that a lot of people wanted to see when we were playing there. You've got to use that to take strength from it and show people that you're not going to be moved, and you're still going to be battling for titles. 'We need to find those characters within the dressing room too. That managed itself for a long period of time when I was there, because there were so many personalities and so many strong characters. 'If standards were not good enough and players weren't pulling their weight, they were certainly told. Maybe that's not been the case so much recently.' Man Utd's Bryan Mbeumo plan scuppered by Brentford's demand in latest twist
Manchester United have already seen a bid for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo knocked back and the west Londoners have made it clear that any transfer fee needs to be paid up front - not in instalments Manchester United remain in the hunt for Bryan Mbeumo but Brentford 's transfer demands could complicate matters - with Tottenham waiting in the wings. The north Londoners have joined the race after hiring Thomas Frank. Mbeumo has just enjoyed his best season to date, scoring 20 times for the Bees, and that has seen interest in him mount. United are in the market for more firepower this summer but saw their opening offer worth £45million plus £10m in add-ons at the start of June rejected. United are preparing a fresh offer for the Cameroon star but Brentford have made it clear that they want the bulk of Mbeumo's fee to be paid up front, reports the Evening Standard. They do not want to sanction his exit based on a number of instalments over several years. That could hamper the plans at Old Trafford with the Red Devils hoping to pay for Mbeumo gradually if they were successful with a bid. Brentford want a fee similar to the one the £62.5m that saw Matheus Cunha join United from Wolves only weeks ago. Even those negotiations caused problems for the Manchester outfit, who must remain compliant with financial rules. They wanted to pay for Cunha over five years before eventually meeting Wolves' terms of three instalments over two seasons. READ MORE: Man Utd make drastic change behind the scenes 'after years of poor transfers' It all opens the door for Tottenham who beat United in the Europa League final last month and can now offer Champions League football, as they look for a new winger. Mbeumo has been identified as a target as is remains open to joining Tottenham, although a switch to Manchester is thought to be his preference. Tottenham have also lined up Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo as a possible target. Brentford are more than happy for a bidding war to commence as they look to maximise their profit on a player they signed as an unknown quantity back when they were in the Championship. Frank was the man who brought Mbeumo to England as a teenager in 2019 and the pair enjoy a close relationship having been part of the journey that took Brentford from the Championship to the Premier League before consolidating them as a top flight side across the following four seasons. United boss Ruben Amorim wants to address several areas of his squad this summer but Cunha is the only man to arrive through the door. Liam Delap was a target but the striker opted to move to Chelsea instead. The Red Devils could yet pursue Viktor Gyokeres, who worked under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon.
