Liverpool make damning Darwin Nunez decision after transfer U-turn
Darwin Nunez looks likely to leave Liverpool this summer, with reigning Serie A champions Napoli interested in bringing the striker to Naples to provide support for Romelu Lukaku Liverpool have reportedly lowered their asking price for Darwin Nunez, with the Reds keen to quickly seal the forward's exit. Liverpool broke their transfer record when they forked out around £85million to sign Nunez from Benfica back in 2022. However, he has struggled for game time under Arne Slot, with the Uruguay international making just eight Premier League starts last season. He also struggled in front of goal, netting just seven times in 47 appearances across all competitions. And Slot publicly criticised Nunez's attitude and work-rate after a disappointing miss against Aston Villa in February. "For the second time in a row I wasn't happy with his work effort, against Wolves and against Villa," Slot said at the time. "I always try to be honest with my players and be honest as I can to you guys as well where I always try to protect my players so I don't say he never worked hard. I know him differently. I know him at Villa at home where he made a 100 metre sprint and scored a goal, I know him when he came on at City at home and was pressing really aggressively and wins the ball back and we score. "But I can't accept if a player doesn't give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once but twice was a bit too much." As a result, Nunez has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this summer and reports from Italy claim that Liverpool are willing to accept offers of around €50m (£42.7m) plus add-ons for the striker. Liverpool did reject an approach from Al-Nassr in the January transfer window, despite the Saudi Pro League side being willing to pay around £70m for Nunez. The report adds that Napoli have already made an offer worth around €43m (£37m) and are hoping to conclude a deal soon. Napoli claimed their fourth Serie A title under Antonio Conte last season and are moving to strengthen their squad ahead of their defence, having already signed Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer from Manchester City. Romelu Lukaku was their leading goalscorer last season, netting 14 league goals in 36 games, and Napoli are keen to take some of the burden off the former Chelsea and Manchester United striker. Victor Osimhen is expected to be sold by Napoli this summer, having spent last season out on loan at Galatasaray. The Turkish side are hoping to sign him permanently, but Manchester United have also been linked with the 26-year-old.

Aston Villa transfer chief Monchi hand picked by Unai Emery targeted by Spanish giants just as the summer transfer window gets underway
Aston Villa transfer chief Monchi is a target for the potential new owners of his former club Sevilla. Monchi was hand picked by Villa boss Unai Emery for the role of 'president of football operations' and runs the playing side along with Emery and director of football Damian Vidagany. Monchi made his name with a series of impressive signings across two spells at Sevilla and now investors Antonio Lappi and Fede Quintero hope to bring him back for a third stint - if they can mount a successful takeover bid. 'Sevilla has achieved far more than its own capabilities,' said Quintero. 'Its successes have a lot to do with Monchi, everything to do with him. He's the most important person in the club's history. 'He accounts for a large part of the success wherever he goes. We're seeing it in Birmingham. At Roma, they reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018. When success accompanies you in everything you do, it's not the success, it's you. 'I have no idea if he's going to come back. Yes, I want him back. Antonio Lappí, definitely. I think every Sevilla fan wants him back.' Monchi will again lead Villa's recruitment campaign this summer, with Emery identifying those players he wants for the first team and Monchi working to secure the best young talent from around the globe. Villa are braced for interest in young attacker Morgan Rogers, who was on Thursday nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award following an outstanding 2024-25 season. Rogers is admired by Arsenal and Chelsea but as things stand, Villa have no interest in selling.

Newcastle 'to offer Marcus Rashford Man Utd escape route' with summer swoop
England international forward Marcus Rashford is still expected to leave Manchester United this summer, despite his Aston Villa loan switch not leading to a permanent move Newcastle United could give Marcus Rashford a route back into the Champions League. The Manchester United forward's time at Old Trafford looks to be up, but his options are limited. Barcelona had been thought to be Rashfird's preference, but the Catalan club have been eyeing other targets. Nico Williams and Luis Diaz are high on their list, with Williams looking the more likely at the time of writing. Rashford impressed on loan at Aston Villa in the second half of last season. A move back to Villa Park appears unlikely, though, after Unai Emery's side missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season. It was Newcastle who took the Premier League's final Champions League spot, finishing above Villa on goal difference. And now, according to The Sun, they could be the ones to hand Rashford another shot at European football. Thintw might not be completely straightforward, though. The same publication suggests Newcastle are pursuing a season-long loan deal while his current employers would prefer a permanent sale. Rashford scored four goals in 17 Villa appearances, also providing six assists. Two of those goals came in the Premier League as Emery's men pushed for a top-five finish, but he missed the final few games of the season after picking up a hamstring injury. "Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has ( injury aside) been an incredible few months for me," he wrote on Instagram after the final weekend of the season. "It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch. "Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant. I know it is a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place which everyone worked so hard all season for but I know this club and team will come back stronger." Rashford is under contract at Manchester United until 2028, but isn't expected to remain at the club. Back in December, the month in which he made his most recent appearance for his boyhood club, he spoke about a desire for a fresh challenge. "For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," the England international was quoted as saying by Henry Winter. "When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. "If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I'e seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."
