DJ Sabby's new single 'Shelele' is a banger

DJ Sabby is back and he's bringing the heat with his latest single, Shelele, a high-energy anthem that not only showcases rising local talent but also pays tribute to the unstoppable spirit of Mzansi's everyday heroes. The new track features a powerhouse line-up including Loki, LMK, Obren, Ndaba Ndaba and Khalipha. The song bursts with vibrant rhythms and a celebratory tone, perfectly matched by a dynamic music video that's as much a love letter to South African townships as it is a visual feast. 'This song is about celebrating every success, no matter how big or small,' DJ Sabby told TshisaLIVE. 'It's a reminder that every win from starting a business to passing an exam is worth shouting about.' Shelele is more than just a party starter; it's a heartfelt ode to community and resilience.

Smiso Shezi teams up with Blaq Major

For the past two years Smiso Shezi has been living in New York, where he was able to realise his dream and develop his talent in music. Smiso has returned to Durban to further pursue his dream of making good music. His latest single, iBill, features Blaq Major, DM Keey and Luvintage. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Simiso said: ' iBill doesn't talk about the struggle but rather talks about the time when hard work has paid off. Time and time again people put in the required work and effort, but when they reach the summit, they don't know how to be happy,' he said. ' iBill reminds you about enjoying yourself and how it feels to enjoy the finer things in life, basking under the African sun. The track talks about reaching out to your friends for a get together, to have fun and enjoy living. Gone are the days of tears. It is time to celebrate.'

Sbonakaliso Mazibuko to give aspiring actors a shot at stardom

Smoke & Mirrors actor Sbonakaliso Mazibuko has started an acting school. Sbonakaliso, known for his roles on Amalanga Awafani, Uzalo and Durban Gen, has opened the Shogazi Academy in Durban to mentor aspiring actors. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the 40-year-old said he is offering a free acting course with a level five certificate upon successful completion, focusing on Durban-based aspiring actors. 'The programme started with online auditions in June and aims to mentor 15 young talents over 11 months. The programme, named Durban Ten Actors in a previous initiative, intends to give young actors an opportunity to act in a stage play at the Stable Theatre in Durban, potentially exposing them to casting agencies and production houses,' he said. 'After some time, the aspiring actors will receive their monthly stipend. I'm in the final stage to conclude with the funders on how we'll operate in this academy. I'm excited about this initiative, as someone elsewhere played a huge role in the person I am today.' The Shogazi Academy mentorship includes online auditions. Sbonakaliso sees this as a way to give back to the community and believes acting talents need to be discovered and nurtured.

'Grateful for the gift of dance': Hope Ramafalo to represent Mzansi in Europe and US

As amapiano music continues to put South Africa on the map, Hope Ramafalo, also known as King Maestro, is taking the world by storm with amapiano dance. The multitalented artist and star will headline the BeAfrika Amps international Afro dance camp in Montpellier, France, from July 14 to 20 with Bontle Modiselle and other renowned dancers from around the world. After this event, she will embark on a dance tour, performing in Amsterdam, Spain, Barcelona and Paris, and later in the year she will take her talents to the US, performing in Seattle on August 22, with additional visits to the MTV Nickelodeon studios in Los Angeles on August 24 and 28. 'I have no words when I think about what dance has done for me. I didn't think dance would put me in the position I am today. I'm grateful for the gift of dance to have the opportunity to share my gift with the world. I'm grateful for dance because it saved my life,' she told TshisaLIVE. 'I didn't think I could make a career from dance but I quickly realised how good I was at it and decided to be more intentional about it and move forward with it. A dance career was never enough encouraged. People never understand when someone wants to be a dancer, but by God's grace I found my passion and purpose through dance.' Hope has become a force to be reckoned with. Aside from being a multi-platinum award winning choreographer and dancer, she won the Social Media Personality of the Year award at the 16th Feather Awards. With viral dance challenges such as Hamba Ha, uMkhukhu (MKK) and Zula ka Strata inspiring millions around the world, her music has gained significant traction, with her song Areyeng trending for a long time on TikTok. 'The amapiano genre has opened up a lot of doors for a lot of artists. When I decided I was going to release music I didn't know how it would go, but all I knew was to at least try. The beauty about uncharted ground is you never know where it will take you. My song trended for a long time on TikTok and the way it's been received is how people have received my dance and I hope to one day merge the two on a bigger scale.'

Nirvana Nokwe 'prioritising music' after graduation

Nirvana Nokwe is gearing up to make waves in the music scene after recently graduating from the Academy of Sound Engineering. While studying in the television and screen arts division when she first enrolled, Nokwe also got to engage with students who did music. 'It was a beautiful intersection between my music and my filmmaking work. I was studying to be behind the camera. I just started creating really strong relationships with people in the sound division and they called me in to be a part of their projects. I didn't exist in just one space,' she told TshisaLIVE. She will soon release a single called Mama with Master KG and Goon Flavour as they launch their upcoming EP. 'It's been so amazing collaborating with them. They featured me on one of their songs. This song is such a beautiful compliment to what's happening in my life. Mama is a song that's so close to my heart, especially now, because books before boys — because boys bring babies. 'This song is about me thanking uMama for supporting me and helping me keep focused, not me giving my life, faith, and destiny away to boys, now that I'm graduating. I'm just so grateful to my mother. My mother really taught me to prioritise myself before love and is always giving me advice about love and dating. She's always telling me to have a life and have a strong connection with God first.' While Nokwe is used to dominating the screens, she'll soon be on the airwaves as she returns to her first love. 'I am really prioritising my music this year. I'm really putting in a lot of effort into music, and working on my own stuff.' Beyond the limelight, Nokwe wears many hats. In 2024 she launched the Connect Supper Club, which provides a platform for inspiring discussions, networking and collaboration, paired with fine dining and a sophisticated ambience.
