‘Will you now enter bedrooms?': Row over private photos escalates in Punjab, AAP minister Ravjot Singh files police plaint against SAD leader Bikram Majithia
JALANDHAR: Punjab local bodies minister Ravjot Singh announced on Wednesday that a formal police complaint has been lodged against senior (SAD) leader for posting his "edited" personal photographs on social media accounts seeking to "scandalise and defame him". Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Calling Majithia "an irrelevant leader from an irrelevant party raising an irrelevant issue," the minister, addressing a press conference, sought to give the issue a casteist angle, saying that Majithia was targeting Scheduled Caste (SC) leaders of the AAP. He mentioned minister Lal Chand Kataruchak and former minister Balkar Singh, whose "sleazy videos" were earlier released by Majithia. All three hail from the SC community. He claimed that Majithia had a history of oppressing SCs and Dalits during his tenure in power, while the AAP govt was a supporter of the two communities. He said that Majithia circulated these photographs when AAP was set to win the Ludhiana West byelection. "The photograph shared on social media is a disgraceful and unethical attempt to mislead the public and defame me. This woman is someone's daughter, mother, or sister. This act is not just an attack on me but an insult to all women. Such tactics reflect the low level of politics practised by such leaders," said Ravjot, flanked by AAP state general secretary Deepak Bali and local AAP leader Tarandeep Sunny. He said that the photographs in question were eight to 10 years old and feature his ex-wife. He reiterated claims that the pictures were "edited". He said that releasing such photographs amounted to insulting women and his former wife was suffering ignominy without any fault of hers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said he was leaving the matter in the court of God and the people. Wrong to bring casteism angle: Channi Jalandhar MP and former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi has sought to debunk attempts by local bodies minister Ravjot Singh and AAP to introduce a caste angle into the recent controversy surrounding alleged "sleazy photographs". In a statement posted on his X handle, Channi said, "One after the other obscene videos of ministers coming out are a grave disrespect to women. It is wrong to link this issue with casteism in any way. It would be better if the entire AAP party apologises and resigns." 'Pics morphed': Another minister slams Majithia Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and minister for minister for good governance and information technology Aman Arora on Wednesday slammed Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia for putting out "private" and "morphed" pictures of his cabinet colleague Ravjot Singh in the public domain. "I never anticipated that someone could take politics to such a low level. This is not right," Arora said while responding to a question on the issue during a press conference here. When asked if the row had dented the party's image, Arora said: "Dr Ravjot Singh has already clarified that these were his private photos with his ex-wife, which were being posted on social media after AI morphing. How will this dent the party's image?" Rather, Arora added: "This raises a question mark on the character of the person who is posting these photos. Will they resort to such a low level of politics?" "Why does Majithia get such photos or news just two days ahead of the elections," he asked. "I mean, it is a very sorry state of affairs. Only a handful, two or four leaders of Punjab, one can count on fingers, resort to such a low level of politics." Arora further asked: "Will they even enter the bedrooms of people? It is ridiculous. What these people are doing is total nonsense."

Zirakpur's R-5 road freed of encroachments on min order
Mohali: Acting on the orders of Punjab local govt minister Ravjot Singh, the Zirakpur municipal council launched a demolition drive to clear encroachments from the R-5 road in the Dhakoli area. The council deployed bulldozers to restore the road to its designated 20metre width as per the city's master plan. The illegal encroachments — primarily boundary walls constructed by private builders — had narrowed the vital R-5 road, leading to persistent traffic congestion and drainage problems. The road, which connects Dhakoli to Peermuchhala, had become a point of concern for both residents and officials due to these violations. During a recent visit to Zirakpur, minister Ravjot Singh, accompanied by senior administrative officials, instructed the municipal council to strictly implement urban planning norms and ensure that public infrastructure is not obstructed by illegal constructions. "The R-5 road is part of the approved town planning layout and must be maintained at its full width to facilitate smooth traffic flow and proper drainage," said Jagjit Singh Judge, executive officer of the Zirakpur municipal council. "We have acted on the minister's directives and removed all encroachments in line with the master plan," he added. The drive, which saw the removal of multiple illegal boundary walls, was welcomed by local residents who had long complained about traffic jams, waterlogging, and safety risks in the area. The council has also issued a stern warning to builders and property owners to avoid illegal constructions in the future or face strict legal action. Zirakpur civic body to soon get corporation status
1 2 Mohali: Punjab local government minister Dr Ravjot Singh announced the elevation of Zirakpur municipal council as municipal corporation. The minister, who made the announcement during a surprise visit on early Thursday morning, also ordered an immediate civic clean-up and improvement drive in the town. Dr Ravjot emphasized that the rapid urban expansion of Zirakpur requires a larger, more empowered civic body to ensure effective governance, improved sanitation, reliable water supply, and systematic urban planning. He urged MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa to submit a formal proposal through the municipal council to initiate the official upgrade process, which will take effect from the upcoming municipal corporation elections. The minister expressed serious concern over the poor condition of civic infrastructure, particularly highlighting the choked Sukhna Choe, and directed officials to take swift action before the monsoon. He instructed the drainage department to assist the municipal council in clearing the choe and warned residents against dumping waste that could block water flow and cause flooding. As part of the city's infrastructure upgrade, the minister confirmed the installation of two sewage treatment plants (STPs) — one of 47 MLD capacity at Sanauli, where land has already been handed over to the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and another 37 MLD plant, for which land identification is currently underway. Additionally, a high-level bridge costing Rs 5.96 crore has been proposed on the Sukhna Choe at Baltana to manage seasonal overflows. During his visit, Dr Singh inspected several areas, including Baltana Furniture Market, Old Kalka Road, and Dhakauli, where he instructed local officials to deploy additional manpower to ensure citywide cleanliness. "The deteriorating condition of roads and public spaces is unacceptable," he said, adding that Zirakpur must reflect the aspirations of its fast-growing population. When MLA Randhawa raised the issue of stormwater discharge from Panchkula causing flooding in Peer Muchhalla, the minister directed top officials in the local government department to coordinate with authorities from the neighbouring state for a swift resolution. Dr Singh said, "As per the directions of chief minister, we are focused on ensuring that basic civic amenities are delivered efficiently. Accountability will be fixed in case of any negligence by local officers." The minister concluded by promising traffic reforms and better urban planning to decongest Zirakpur's roads and enhance quality of life for its residents.
