3 persons arrested for illegal gun sale in Makati
The Southern Police District (SPD) on Tuesday said three persons, including a 'media practitioner,' were arrested in an entrapment operation against the illegal sale of firearms in front of an apartelle in Makati City on Monday.
In a statement, the SPD identified the suspects as 26-year-old ''Patrick,'' 52-year-old ''Rodrigo,'' and 52-year-old ''Gaynor,'' who is allegedly a media practitioner.
The operation was launched after an informant reported about the illegal activities of Patrick and his cohorts within the National Capital Region.
The SPD said that among the items seized from the suspects were firearms, gun registration cards, vehicles, live ammunition, press credentials, and phones.
The suspects and the seized items were brought to SPD's District Special Operation Unit for documentation and for filing of complaints for violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act as well as the election gun ban.
'These unlicensed weapons are more than just contraband—they are tools of violence that empower criminal elements, endanger innocent lives, and undermine public safety. 2 suspects previously arrested for fake links with First Family nabbed for explosives, firearms
Two suspects who were previously arrested for claiming they had connections with the First Family were apprehended by police in Parañaque City for the illegal possession of explosives and firearms. In his report in Super Radyo dzBB, Carlo Mateo said Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group head P/Brigadier General Eleazar Mata said they seized a block of C-4 Explosive, guns, ammunition, knives, handcuffs and three bullet-proof vests from the suspects. Among the charges are violating Republic Acts 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), 9516 (Unlawful Possession of Explosives), Possession of Bladed Weapons, Resisting Arrest, Disobedience to a Person of Authority, Concealing of True Name and Obstruction of Justice. Authorities added the two suspects were previously arrested by the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) for claiming they had ties with the family of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Police are urging members of the public who might have been scammed by the suspects come forward and file the appropriate cases against them. —RF, GMA Integrated News

French tourist injected with drug in ‘Ativan Gang'-style robbery
Authorities are warning the public, especially tourists, about a disturbing new twist on an old robbery scheme of the 'Ativan Gang'—but this time involving an injectable substance. According to a 24 Oras report by Jun Veneracion, a French tourist, identified only as 'Matthew,' was robbed of nearly P100,000 worth of cash and gadgets after being approached by a group who pretended to be friendly locals offering a tour of Manila. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 25, while Matthew was walking around Makati. The group befriended him and invited him to explore tourist spots in Manila. They ate together before boarding a taxi. That's when things took a dark turn. "At one point, I felt an injection in my arm so they drugged me and I became completely unconscious and I have no memories," Matthew said. When he regained consciousness, his cash and mobile phone were gone. "Pag gising niya, wala na yung kanyang mga gamit na cellphone at cash na nagkakahalaga ng 96,000 pesos," said Southern Police District Director Police Brigadier General Joseph Arguellas. (When he woke up, his cellphone and cash worth P96,000 were already gone.) Police saw a resemblance in the robbery style to the MO of the notorious Ativan Gang, an old group known for dropping drugs into the food or drink of their victims and robbing them. However, injecting drugs into the victims is new. Authorities say the shift in method may be due to increased public awareness of the old approach. "Nabanggit nung isa sa mga babae na suspects na masyado nang gasgas yung kanilang paglagay ng gamot o kung anumang kemikal sa tubig tapos pinapainom," said Police Colonel Jean Dela Torre of the Makati police force. (One of the female suspects said that adding drugs or chemicals to drinks had become too predictable.) With the help of a tracking app, police were able to locate the victim's stolen phone, which led to the arrest of five suspects, including a 68-year-old woman.
