Sikkim: State government rescues stranded locals, tourists, and taxi drivers in Chaten
Gangtok: The Sikkim government has arranged a special helicopter sortie for their immediate air evacuation in response to requests made by stranded locals, tourist taxi drivers, and certain government officials stationed at the Chaten area.
The operation comes as part of the ongoing coordinated relief and evacuation efforts being undertaken in view of recent adverse conditions that have disrupted normal road connectivity and access to the region.
The helicopter sortie began this morning from the Pakyong Greenfield Airport, with the first sortie taking off towards Chaten to initiate the evacuation process.

The State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens in affected regions.
Rescue and relief operations were being conducted in North Sikkim, following recent floods in the region.

Meanwhile, the Sikkim government is still closely monitoring the overall situation in the region and is providing all necessary support and assistance to those affected.
Earlier on Friday, in a major relief operation, all stranded tourists were successfully evacuated from Chaten, one of the worst-hit areas in North Sikkim, following recent landslides and flash floods. Mangan District Collector Anant Jain confirmed the evacuation.
DC Anant Jain praised the joint efforts of the district administration, military, paramilitary forces, and local communities for their swift and coordinated response. "Our priority was to ensure the safety of every stranded individual. We thank the Indian Air Force and all ground teams for their relentless service," Jain said.
The final phase of the operation involved Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters airlifting the remaining 63 tourists from Chaten on Thursday, with follow-up sorties resuming on Friday morning as weather conditions improved. The operation was carried out in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and local administration.
Earlier in the week, more than 1,600 tourists were rescued by road from Lachung and Lachen valleys in a massive ground operation led by DC Jain. The tourists, including several elderly individuals and children, were safely escorted through challenging terrain and intermittent weather disturbances.
Several days of heavy rainfall have triggered landslides, mudslides, flash floods, and rockfalls in many parts of the state.

Boudh gets rail connectivity as PM flags off trains
1 2 Bhubaneswar: For the first time, Boudh district got train services after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two new trains and extended the services of three existing trains connecting Purunakatak and Boudh on Friday. Modi flagged off the trains after inaugurating the Sonepur-Purunakatak section (73 km) of the Khurda Road-Balangir (301 km) new line project, connecting Boudh district. This railway section was constructed at a cost of Rs 1,376 crore. With this, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of seven railway projects worth Rs 2,750 crore. "Boudh district headquarters is now connected to the railway network for the first time after completion of this railway section. Finally, our district will be on the railway map of India, fulfilling the decades-old dream of the local people," said Seshadev Jani, a resident of Boudh district. He said people can now visit the Bhairavi temple at Purunakatak by train. "The Sonepur-Purunakatak rail section will strengthen the social and economic connectivity of this region. The PM flagged off the Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express (18313/18314) and Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express (18311/18312) here. People attended the flag-off ceremony of the trains at Boudh and Purunakatak stations. The Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express will leave from Boudh at 7 am every Monday and reach Bhubaneswar New at 6.15 pm via Balangir-Sambalpur-Angul-Naraj. In the return direction, this train will leave from Bhubaneswar New at 11 pm on Mondays and reach Boudh at 10.30 am on Tuesdays. Similarly, the Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express from Sambalpur will leave at 7.25 pm on Sundays and arrive at Boudh at 11.55 pm on the same day. The return train from Boudh will leave at 12.15 pm on Tuesdays and reach Sambalpur at 5.30 pm on the same day. Apart from this, the Bhubaneswar-Sonepur-Bhubaneswar Inter-City Express and two pairs of Balangir-Sonepur shuttle passenger trains will now originate from Purunakatak in Boudh district.

Vizag targets world record in mass yoga event today
Visakhapatnam: The port city is set to create history with record-breaking participation on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on Saturday, with over five lakh people expected to attend, including over three lakh on the beach road from RK beach to Bheemili. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the celebrations in the city. The entire beach road stretch, a 26.8 km route, wore a green look with the arrangement of green mats on the road. Vizag is aiming to surpass the previous record of participation registered at Surat in Gujarat with 1.5 lakh people. The city is also attempting another record with 25,000 students performing Surya Namaskar at Andhra University grounds. The state govt has deployed more than 10,000 police personnel, including Octopus and Greyhounds, apart from NSG commandos. The main event will be held for 45 minutes as the participants exhibit their skills in 18 Asanas. The mega display will be held on a 30.16 km stretch, including 18 sports fields apart from the 26km beach road stretch.
