Arrests and knife seizures in police day of action

Police have raided a Wolverhampton business suspected of being a brothel, as part of an operation targeting anti-social behaviour, exploitation and gang activity.
A number of people at the premises were safeguarded, West Midlands Police said, as officers also seized 500 knives from a shop in Whitmore Reans which were not kept securely.
Nineteen people were arrested in the one-day operation for offences ranging from drug supply and burglary to threats to kill.
Ch Supt Jenny Skyrme said: "We want to protect the people of Wolverhampton from harm and deal with those people who are committing crime, and those efforts are on-going each and every day."
Officers joined up with Trading Standards, the force's off-road bike team and drone unit, as well as its serious organised crime and exploitation team to conduct patrols, visit premises and carry out enforcement and education activities.
Off-road bike officers patrolled hot spots in Bilston and police officers visited city centre pubs and nightspots during the evening, carrying out checks and making sure people were getting home safely.
Weapon sweeps were also carried out and Class A drugs were recovered, leading to men being arrested on suspicion of intent to supply following a warrant in Whitmore Reans and a car being stopped in Dudley Road, the force said.
Ch Supt Skyrme said Operation Advance was "a day of arrests, seizures and high-profile activities and these positive results were also backed up with many opportunities to connect with the residents and people across the city.
"We know that having those conversations with the people we serve is vital as it helps us understand the issues that are concerning them most," she added.

Police pull over 33 vehicles in Wednesbury and find 30 offences

A motorist was arrested on suspicion of drug driving during a police road safety crackdown in Wednesbury. Yesterday's police operation saw 33 vehicles pulled over in the town and more than 30 traffic offenses reported. One driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and using a vehicle in a dangerous condition. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We seized vehicles and made an arrest during a road safety operation in Wednesbury yesterday, June 18. "Our teams carried out the targeted activity - along with partner agencies - on routes in and around the town centre. "It led to 33 vehicles being pulled over, more than 30 traffic offences being reported, and one arrest on suspicion of drug driving and using a vehicle in a dangerous condition. "The traffic offences included having tinted windows, no licence, no insurance, not wearing a seatbelt, illegal tyres and using a mobile phone at the wheel. "There were four vehicles seized and six prohibited from being used on the roads. "The multi-agency traffic operation involved our Road Harm Prevention Team, Wednesbury Neighbourhood Team, Sandwell Council Road Safety Team, Sandwell Council Waste Carrier Team, Sandwell Council Taxi Licensing Team and DVSA. "We regularly conduct road operations working with communities and partners to create safer roads for everyone, and deterring criminals who abuse the road network. "Your safety is our number one priority and we are committed to reducing the number of fatalities and serious injuries on our roads. "It comes as the Safer6 campaign is running across the borough with partners working together to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, and deal with other issues that matter to residents across the six towns."

Police probing Dudley motorbike theft gang who struck at 2am

Police are investigating a motorbike theft gang in the Black Country. Three people in masks made a number of attempts to take a bike outside an address in Himley Street in Dudley.
